Rebecca Jane Linton (born 26 September 1985) is a New Zealand former swimmer, who specialised in long-distance freestyle events. [1] She held New Zealand records in the 400 and 800 m freestyle, until they were all broken by Lauren Boyle in 2012. Linton is also a member of Howick Pakuranga Swim Club in Auckland.
Linton qualified for three swimming events at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, by clearing FINA B-standard entry times of 4:19.03 (400 m freestyle) and 8:52.08 (800 m freestyle) from the New Zealand Championships. [2] [3] [4]
On the second day of the Games, Linton placed thirty-first overall in the 400 m freestyle. [5] Swimming in heat two, she edged out South Korea's Ha Eun-Ju to take a sixth seed by 0.07 of a second in 4:21.58. [6] [7] She also teamed up with Helen Norfolk, Alison Fitch, and Nathalie Bernard in the 4×200 m freestyle relay. She swam a third leg in heat two with a split of 2:05.17, but the New Zealand settled for seventh place and thirteenth overall, in a final time of 8:14.76. [8] [9] In her third and final event, 800 m freestyle, Linton picked up a seventh seed in heat three, but was unable to break a 9-minute barrier with a time of 9:02.41. Linton failed to reach the top 8 final, as she placed twenty-fourth overall from the morning's preliminaries. [10] [11]
Shortly after the Olympics, Linton retired from swimming to focus on her studies at the University of Auckland. In 2008, she graduated with the bachelor's degree of psychology and management, before joining the New Zealand Police. [12]
Laure Manaudou is a retired French Olympic, world and European champion swimmer. She has held the world record in freestyle events between 200 and 1500 meter. She is the older sister of Florent Manaudou who is also an Olympic gold medalist swimmer.
Martha Matsa is a Greek swimmer, who specialized in sprint freestyle events. She is a two-time Olympian, and a member of the swimming team for HAN Thessaloniki.
Park Na-ri is a South Korean swimmer, who specialized in freestyle and individual medley events. She won two bronze medals, as a member of the South Korean swimming team, in the 800 m freestyle relay at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar, and at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China.
Sarah Paton is an Australian former swimmer who specialized in long-distance freestyle events. She is the sister of swimmer Siobhan Paton, who won six gold medals at the 2000 Summer Paralympics, and holds 13 world records in S14 category. Paton is also a member of Telopea Swim Club, and is coached and trained by Mark Skimming.
Jelena Petrova is an Estonian former swimmer, who specialized in long-distance freestyle events. She is a 19-time Estonian long-course swimming champion, 11-time short-course swimming champion and a three-time Nordic junior champion.
Giancarlo Zolezzi Seoane is a Chilean former swimmer, who specialized in long-distance freestyle events. He is a multiple-time Chilean swimming champion and record holder in the 200, 400, 800, and 1500 m freestyle.
Darya Viktorovna Parshina is a Russian former swimmer, who specialized in long-distance freestyle events. She set a junior European record of 4:10.79 to claim the 400 m freestyle title at the 2004 European Junior Swimming Championships in Lisbon, Portugal. She is a member of the Penza Army Sports Club, and is trained by her long-time coach and mentor Natalia Kozlova.
Shim Min-ji is a South Korean former swimmer, who specialized in freestyle and backstroke events. She is a two-time Olympian and a three-time relay medalist at the Asian Games (2002).
Vesna Stojanovska is a Macedonian former swimmer, who specialized in freestyle and butterfly events. She is a two-time Olympian, and holds multiple age-group records in 200 and 400 m freestyle, and in 50, 100, and 200 m butterfly. Regarded as one of Macedonia's top swimmers, Stojanovska has earned All-American honors and numerous Atlantic Coast Conference titles in her own discipline while studying in the United States.
Pilin Tachakittiranan is a Thai former swimmer, who specialized in freestyle and butterfly events. She is a two-time Olympian and a multiple-time age-group record holder in all freestyle distances. Regarded as Thailand's top female swimmer, she has won a total of five gold medals at the Southeast Asian Games.
Khadija Ciss is a Senegalese former swimmer, who specialized in long-distance freestyle events. She won a bronze medal in the 200 m freestyle at the 2003 All-Africa Games in Abuja, Nigeria (2:09.00).

Ivanka Moralieva is a Bulgarian former swimmer, who specialized in long-distance freestyle events and open water marathon. Since 2001, she holds a Bulgarian record in the 1500 m freestyle from the World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan (16:55.53). She also won a bronze medal in the 25 km, as an open water swimmer, at the 2004 European Aquatics Championships in Madrid, Spain (4:41:21.2).
Kwon You-ri is a South Korean swimmer, who specialized in long-distance freestyle and butterfly events. She is a fourth-place finalist in the 200 m butterfly at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar.
Heather Claire Roffey is a Caymanian former swimmer, who specialized in long-distance freestyle and butterfly events. She became one of the first swimmers, and the first female, in history to represent the Cayman Islands in swimming at the Summer Olympics at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, along with Shaune Fraser and Andrew Mackay.
Annabelle Jane Carey is a New Zealand former competitive swimmer, who specialised in breaststroke events. As of 2006, she currently holds a New Zealand record of 1:09.26 in the 100 m breaststroke from the World Championship Trials in Auckland. In the same year she helped out the New Zealand team to pull off a fourth-place effort in the medley relay at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia, with a record-breaking time of 4:06.30.
Nicole Zahnd is a retired Swiss swimmer, who specialized in sprint freestyle events. She was born in Bern. She is a two-time Olympian, and a top 8 finalist in the 200 m freestyle at the 2001 European Short Course Swimming Championships in Antwerp, Belgium. Zahnd played for two swimming clubs in Geneva, before she trained under head coach Dirk Reinecke as part of the Swiss national team. Zahnd is also the wife of former medley swimmer and two-time Olympian Yves Platel.
Nathalie Bernard is a South African-born New Zealand former swimmer, who specialised in freestyle events. She is a single-time Olympian (2004), and a member of North Shore Swim Club in Auckland, under head coach Thomas Ansorg.
Haike Eva van Stralen is a Dutch former swimmer, who specialized in freestyle events. She is a two-time Olympian, and double Dutch short-course champion in the 200 and 400 m freestyle. Van Stralen also played for De Kempvis Swimming Club in Spijkenisse, under her personal coach Dick Bergsma.
