Record Heat, previously known as Spirit Animal, is an American band from Brooklyn, New York City. The band consists of Steve Cooper (vocals), Cal Stamp (lead guitar), and Paul Michel (bass). In August 2020 the band officially changed their name to Record Heat.
Steve Cooper originally performed as a solo artist under the stage name The Gray Kid. [1] When forming Spirit Animal, the band consisted of Steve Cooper and Computer Jay, plus other musicians including Jesse Ingalls and Jordan Richardson (both from Ben Harper's Relentless7). [2] The band would release their first studio album The Cost of Living in 2010, and used a Kickstarter campaign to fund the following tour, where Steve Cooper offered to cook dinner for fans in exchange for tour support. [3] However, Cooper does not consider the band to have truly started until 2012, when the current lineup was solidified. Lead singer Steve Cooper and bassist Paul Michel originally met in 2002 in Washington, D.C. [4] Guitarist Cal Stamp was introduced to the band by a mutual friend, but initially turned down the guitarist role. However, after seeing a Spirit Animal set in Manhattan, he changed his mind and joined the band. [5]
Spirit Animal released its first EP This Is A Test in 2012. [6] [7] In 2013, Sean Parker added Spirit Animal's song, "The Black Jack White" to a Spotify playlist, which led to over 450,000 plays of the song. [8] The song was later featured in an episode of CSI:NY. [9] In 2014, Cooper wrote an article for Business Insider about Taylor Swift's removal of her music from Spotify. [10] In 2016, Spirit Animal partnered with the website Bloody Disgusting for the music video for the song, "Big Bad Road Dog" from their EP, World War IV. [11]
The band signed a record deal with Atlantic Records in May 2018, and released a new single titled, "YEAH!". [12] They were formerly signed to Wind-up Records. [13] In the first part of 2018, the band opened for The Struts, Incubus, and Fitz and the Tantrums. Spirit Animal released their major label debut album, Born Yesterday, on August 3, 2018. [14] The second single from the album, "Karma," was written in the rehearsal space of Tenacious D. In 2019, the band left Atlantic Records, and created their own label, Swagger State University, an imprint of RED Music. [15] The band released REBORN YESTERDAY, which includes all tracks from Born Yesterday, plus two new tracks "HYDR8", "Arm Candy," and an acoustic version of "YEAH!". [15]
The band toured with Theory of a Deadman in summer 2018, [16] and toured with The Struts and White Reaper in the fall. [17] After touring with the Struts, Spirit Animal toured with Red Sun Rising and dubé. [18] In early 2019, Spirit Animal opened for Dorothy.[ citation needed ] In spring 2019, they performed at WIXO's Spring Fling festival in Peoria, and opened for Stone Temple Pilots at the Detroit Grand Prix. [19] [20] Spirit Animal began opening for Theory of a Deadman in fall 2019, [21] and will tour with The Cult in December 2019. The tour is celebrating the 30th anniversary of The Cult's album Sonic Temple; Spirit Animal will be opening for the United States leg of the tour. [22] Ricky Reed helped produce REBORN YESTERDAY. Spirit Animal has been compared to Talking Heads, The Black Keys, Faith No More, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. [24] Fans of Spirit Animal refer to themselves as "Spanimals". [25]
The Choir is an atmospheric Christian alternative rock band currently comprising Derri Daugherty on guitar and vocals, Steve Hindalong on drums, and Dan Michaels on saxophone and lyricon. Long-time bassist Tim Chandler died in 2018, and guitarist Marc Byrd was the fifth member of the band between 2005–2014. As of 2023, the band has released 18 full-length studio albums, three EPs, five live albums, one single-disc compilation, one retrospective box set, and is still actively recording new material.
Winger is an American rock band formed in New York City in 1987. Winger gained popularity during the late 1980s and early 1990s with two platinum albums, Winger and In the Heart of the Young, along with charting singles "Seventeen", "Headed for a Heartbreak" and "Miles Away". In 1990, the band was nominated for an American Music Award for "Best New Heavy Metal Band". As the music scene changed in the early to mid-1990s due to the popularity of grunge, their success faded following their third release, 1993's Pull. Winger disbanded less than a year later in 1994.

Each band member is given a unique stage name; the line-up has undergone changes over the years; co-founder, lead vocalist, and primary songwriter Dick Valentine has been the only constant member. The current line-up consists of Valentine, lead guitarist Johnny Na$hinal, keyboardist Tait Nucleus?, rhythm guitarist Herb S. Flavourings, drummer Dr. J and bassist Smorgasbord.
Redd Kross is an American rock band from Hawthorne, California, who had their roots in 1978 in a punk rock band called the Tourists, which was started by brothers Jeff and Steve McDonald while Steve was still in middle school. With the addition of friends Greg Hetson and John Stielow on drums, the band's first gig was opening for Black Flag. The band has since released seven albums and three EPs.
Toad the Wet Sprocket is an American alternative rock band formed in Santa Barbara, California, in 1986. The band at the time consisted of vocalist/guitarist Glen Phillips, guitarist Todd Nichols, bassist Dean Dinning, and drummer Randy Guss, who stopped touring in 2017 and left the band in 2020. Guss was replaced by drummer Josh Daubin, who had been supporting them as their drummer on recent tours. They had chart success in the 1990s with singles that included "Walk on the Ocean", "All I Want", "Something's Always Wrong", "Fall Down", and "Good Intentions".

Charles Frederick Kip Winger is an American singer and bass guitarist, active as a member of the rock band Winger and as a solo artist. He initially gained notability as a member of Alice Cooper's band, contributing bass to his Constrictor (1986) and Raise Your Fist and Yell (1987) albums.

Skillet is an American Christian rock band formed in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1996. The band currently consists of husband and wife duo John Cooper and Korey Cooper along with Jen Ledger and Seth Morrison. The band has released eleven studio albums, two of which, Collide and Comatose, received Grammy nominations. Two of their albums, Comatose and Awake, are certified Platinum and Double Platinum respectively by the RIAA, while Rise and Unleashed are certified Gold as of June 29, 2020. Theory of a Deadman is a Canadian rock band from North Delta, British Columbia. Formed in 1999, the band is currently signed to Roadrunner Records as well as 604 Records. The band includes traits of music styles, such as country and acoustic, in addition to their post-grunge and alternative rock foundation. Nine of their singles have entered the top ten of the US Billboard Mainstream Rock chart, including four songs that peaked at number one: "Bad Girlfriend", "Lowlife", "Rx (Medicate)" and "History of Violence".

He has won multiple awards for the GMA Canada Covenant Awards, GMA Dove Awards, and has been nominated for multiple Juno Awards. Signed for a decade with BEC Recordings, Manafest became independent in 2015.
I Fight Dragons is an American chiptune-based rock band from Chicago. Their music is a combination of rock with chiptune, featuring electronic sounds made using Nintendo Game Boys and Nintendo Entertainment Systems, a genre also known as Nintendocore. To date they have released four full-length albums: 2011's KABOOM!, which came out on Photo Finish / Atlantic Records, 2014's The Near Future, which they self-released after raising over $100,000 on Kickstarter through their "Project Atma" project, 2019's Canon Eyes, and 2021's Side Quests: B-Sides and Rarities. They have also released two EPs, 2009's Cool Is Just a Number and 2010's Welcome to the Breakdown. Their music has been featured on Nintendo Video as well as on the WWE, and they wrote and performed the theme song for ABC's The Goldbergs. They have toured the US with MC Chris and Whole Wheat Bread in 2009, 3OH!3, Cobra Starship, and Travie McCoy in 2010, The Protomen in 2011, and they were on the entire 2012 and 2014 Vans Warped Tours. They went on their first national headlining tour, "The War of Cyborg Liberation Tour", with openers MC Lars and Skyfox in 2012. From 2010 until 2012 they were signed to Photo Finish / Atlantic Records, but in fall 2012 they won their release from the label. Since 2014, they have toured sporadically as well as playing annual headlining shows at Chicago's Lincoln Hall. Frontman Brian Mazzaferri attended Glenbrook South High School with Fall Out Boy lead vocalist and guitarist Patrick Stump.

Wake Up Call is the sixth studio album by Canadian rock band Theory of a Deadman, released on October 27, 2017, through 604 Records in Canada and Atlantic and Roadrunner Records in the United States. Critics have described the album as having a more pop-infused sound than previous releases, which was the result of lead singer Tyler Connolly composing the majority of the record's music on the piano instead of the usual guitar. Departing from the same recording and production team they had worked with for the past four albums, the band opted to collaborate with Swedish music producer, Martin Terefe, and spent seven weeks at Kensaltown Studios in London.
"Rx (Medicate)" is a song performed by Canadian rock band Theory of a Deadman, a track on their sixth studio album, Wake Up Call (2017). The song's lyrics were co-written by all four members of the band and address the prescription drug abuse epidemic occurring in North America. It was produced by Martin Terefe and recorded at Terefe's Kensaltown Studios in London. Along with the group's usual hard rock sound, the song uses elements of pop and country music genres. The band's transition into the pop genre has been associated with lead singer Tyler Connolly's newly acquired piano-playing ability, which forced a change in his songwriting style.
"Body Talks" is a song by English rock band the Struts. It was released as the first single from their second studio album, Young & Dangerous. It was originally released on 15 June 2018 as the lead single from their album and was later re-released as a duet with American singer-songwriter Kesha on 28 August 2018. Both the solo and duet versions are included as the first and thirteenth track respectively on the Struts' album. The song was written by band members Luke Spiller and Adam Slack with producers Lauren Christy and John Levine.
"Karma" is a song by Welsh singer and songwriter Marina from her fourth studio album, Love + Fear (2019). Marina's former boyfriend Jack Patterson produced the song alongside Mark Ralph. It was written by Marina, Ben Berger, Ryan McMahon, Ryan Rabin, and Patterson. The song was released for streaming in the United States as the album's fifth and final single on 29 August 2019 by Atlantic Records. Marina was inspired by the Me Too movement and the Harvey Weinstein sexual abuse cases when writing the song, although she was not initially aware of the inspiration. It is a pop song with a tropical beat, which lyrically describes a woman confronting a man, insisting he will eventually receive his karma.
