Redux: The First 10 Years is an album of re-recordings by Canadian post-hardcore band Silverstein, released in 2019 independently by the band themselves. The album consists of 12 re-recorded songs from their first four albums which were released in their first ten years as a band.

Background and recording

Silverstein formed in February 2000 in Burlington, Ontario. [3] Silverstein released two EPs, Summer's Stellar Gaze (2000) and When the Shadows Beam (2002) [4] independently, then on October 22, 2002, it was announced that the band had signed to Victory Records. [5] The band released four albums on Victory in their first ten years after forming: When Broken Is Easily Fixed (2003), Discovering The Waterfront (2005), Arrivals & Departures (2007), and A Shipwreck In The Sand (2009). [6] Liam Cormier of Cancer Bats reprises his guest vocal role on "Vices".

Release

Redux: The First 10 Years was announced 15 February 2019 through the band's website. It was announced that the album would contain 12 brand new recordings of popular tracks from their first four albums. The tracklist was revealed shortly after. It was also announced that it would be the first album the band released themselves independently of a label. The album was released 12 April 2019.

"Smashed into Pieces" had been previously re-recorded by the band in 2013 the ten-year anniversary of the album; the band assured fans that the version on Redux was a new version recorded with the rest of the album in 2018. [7]

Silverstein (band)

Silverstein is a Canadian rock band from Burlington, Ontario, formed in 2000. Their band name is a reference to the famous children's author Shel Silverstein, whom the band had admired and read the stories of as children. They have released a total of ten studio albums, four EPs, a compilation album and a live DVD/CD. Their lineup had remained unchanged for eleven years since December 2001, consisting of lead vocalist Shane Told, lead guitarist Neil Boshart, rhythm guitarist Josh Bradford, bassist Billy Hamilton, and drummer Paul Koehler. In September 2012, the band had announced that Neil Boshart had been fired and would be replaced by Paul Marc Rousseau, who also joined Billy Hamilton on backing vocals. The band achieved moderate success with their second studio album, Discovering the Waterfront, which was nominated for a Juno Award and reached No. 34 on the Billboard 200 charts, with the following two albums charting at similar positions. Silverstein has sold over 1,000,000 albums worldwide.

Rob Swire

Robert Swire-Thompson is an Australian musician, singer, songwriter, record producer and DJ, best known as the founder and vocalist of the Australian drum and bass and electronic rock band Pendulum, as well as DJ and co-founder of electro house duo Knife Party formed of Swire and Gareth McGrillen. Originally from Perth, Western Australia, he relocated to the United Kingdom in 2003 with fellow Pendulum co-founders Gareth McGrillen and Paul "El Hornet" Harding. Swire has since fulfilled a broad spectrum of roles as a member of Pendulum, ranging from songwriting to singing while performing live with an unusual guitar-like MIDI controller – Starr Labs' Ztar Z6S-XPA. Swire also plays guitar, bass, keyboards, percussion, and other instruments. He is sometimes referred to by the stage name Anscenic.

Blitzkrieg (band)

Blitzkrieg are an English heavy metal band formed in Leicester in 1980. The current line-up consists of Brian Ross (vocals), Alan Ross (guitar), Liam Ferguson (bass), Matt Graham (drums), and Nick Jennison (guitar). Ross is the only remaining member from the band's founding, and the band are now based in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Cancer Bats

Cancer Bats are a Canadian hardcore punk band from Toronto, Ontario. They have released six studio albums and six extended plays. The band is composed of vocalist Liam Cormier, guitarist Scott Middleton, drummer Mike Peters and bassist Jaye R. Schwarzer. Cancer Bats take a wide variety of influences from heavy metal subgenres and fuse them into hardcore and punk rock, and also include elements of Southern rock. Their sound has been likened to sludge metal, as well as to that of metalcore bands such as Converge and Hatebreed. The members of Cancer Bats have also toured and recorded as a Black Sabbath tribute band under the name Bat Sabbath.
