Bobal varietal

Bobal is a variety of Vitis vinifera, a red grape used in winemaking. It is native to the Utiel-Requena region in Valencia, Spain. The name derives from the Latin bovale, in reference to the shape of a bull’s head. It is grown predominantly in the Utiel-Requena DO where it represents about 90% of all vines grown, and is also present in significant quantities in Valencia, Cuenca and Albacete. It can only be found in small quantities in other regions of Spain: La Manchuela, selected vineyards in Ribera del Guadiana, Alicante, Murcia, Campo de Borja, Calatayud, Cariñena, Valdejalón. Small quantities are also grown in Rosellón and in Sardinia (Italy). A rare white variety of the same name also exists. According to the data from the Spanish Vine Registry of 31 July 2004, Bobal is the third most planted variety in Spain with 90,000 ha (8%), coming behind Airén 305,000 ha (27%) and Tempranillo 190,000 (17%).

Requena Province Province in Loreto, Peru

The Requena Province is one of the eight provinces in the Loreto Region of Peru. It was created by Law No. 9815 on July 2, 1943 by president Manuel Prado Ugarteche. Its territory is part of the Amazon Rainforest, as such, it is characterized by high temperatures, heavy rainfall and a wide diversity of plants and animals.

Tapiche Reserve nature reserve in Peru

The Tapiche Reserve is a private conservation property located in Tapiche District, Requena Province, Loreto Region in Peru. The 1,540 hectare reserve, accessible only by waterway, is located 340 km up river from Iquitos on the Tapiche River. The reserve comprises several types of lowland Amazonian forests, including igapo, varzea, and terra firme. The reserve represents one of the few areas in the Amazon basin where these forest types can be found in close proximity. The reserve spans both sides of the Tapiche River east of the Ucayali River; and is home to endangered species such as jaguar, bald uakari, giant armadillo, the Brazilian tapir, the Amazonian manatee, harpy eagle, cedar, mahogany and others. Inside the reserve, there are bodies of water and swamps including lakes, canals, oxbows, aguajales, and restingas. It has annual temperatures ranging from 25 °C (77 °F) to 33 °C (91 °F) and an annual rain fall of about 3 meters, permitting an immense variety of species to thrive in the area. A land survey and rapid species inventory of Tapiche Ohara's Reserve was performed in 2011. The species inventory is reproduced below in table format. The reserve is designated by the Peruvian government as a Private Conservation Area (PCA).

Pago de Los Balagueses

Pago de Los Balagueses is a branch of Bodegas Vegalfaro, a Spanish winery in Valencia, Spain. The Pago de Los Balagueses branch uses the Vino de Pago wine appellation, a classification for Spanish wine applied to individual vineyards or wine estates, unlike the Denominación de Origen Protegida (DOP) or Denominación de Origen Calificada (DOCa) which is applied to an entire wine region. The Pago de Los Balagueses was formed as a Vino de Pago in 2011, and geographically it lies within the extent of the Utiel-Requena DOP. The Bodegas Vegalfaro also produces Cava under the Cava DOP appellation, and still wines under the Utiel-Requena DOP appellation.
