Politics of Jordan Government system

The politics of Jordan takes place in a framework of a parliamentary monarchy, whereby the Prime Minister of Jordan is head of government, and of a multi-party system. Jordan is a constitutional monarchy based on the constitution promulgated on January 8, 1952. The king exercises his power through the government he appoints which is responsible before the Parliament.

Petra Arabian historical and archaeological city in Jordan

Petra, originally known to its inhabitants as Raqmu, is a historical and archaeological city in southern Jordan. Petra lies on the slope of Jabal Al-Madbah in a basin among the mountains which form the eastern flank of the Arabah valley that runs from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba. Petra is believed to have been settled as early as 9,000 BC, and it was possibly established in the 4th century BC as the capital city of the Nabataean Kingdom. The Nabataeans were nomadic Arabs who invested in Petra's proximity to the trade routes by establishing it as a major regional trading hub.

Jordan is divided into twelve governorates (muhafatha), by the administrative divisions system of the Ministry of Interior. In 1994, four new governorates were created: Jerash, Ajloun, Madaba and Aqaba. Jerash Governorate and Ajloun Governorate were split from Irbid Governorate, Madaba Governorate was split from Amman Governorate and Aqaba Governorate was split from Ma'an Governorate. Governorates are further subdivided into districts (liwa) and often into sub-districts (qda).

Elections in Jordan

Elections in Jordan are for the lower house, known as the House of Representatives, of the bicameral parliament of Jordan, as well as for local elections. They take place within a political system where the King has extensive legislative and executive powers, retaining ultimate political control. The Prime Minister is selected by the King, the PM is then free to choose his own Cabinet. The parliament has quotas: three seats for Circassians and Chechens, nine for Christians and fifteen for women. The electoral system favours rural tribes and those of East Bank origin over urban areas that are primarily inhabited by those of Palestinian descent.

2007 Jordanian local elections

On July 31, 2007, Jordan held mayoral and council elections in 94 municipalities. As in past elections, the Municipality of Greater Amman (MOGA) was exempt from the full election; only half of the 68-member council was elected, while the other half of the MOGA council, along with the mayor, was appointed by the King of Jordan.

Ajloun Governorate governorate of Jordan

Ajloun Governorate is one of the governorates of Jordan, located north of Amman the capital of Jordan. Ajloun Governorate has the fourth highest population density in Jordan with a population density of 350.1 people/km². It is bordered by Jerash Governorate from the south east and Irbid Governorate from the north and west.

Results of the 2013 Jordanian general election

Early parliamentary elections were held in Jordan on 23 January 2013. All 150 seats in the House of Representatives were up for election. Voter turnout was reported to be 56.6%.

2016 Jordanian general election elections

General elections were held in Jordan on 20 September 2016 to elect the 18th House of Representatives. The elections were announced after parliament was dissolved by King Abdullah II on 29 May 2016, with the King appointing Hani Mulki as interim Prime Minister following the resignation of Abdullah Ensour.

Al-Sharat

Ash-Sharāt or Ash-Sharāh (Arabic: ٱلشَّرَاة‎, also known as Bilād ash-Sharāt or Jibāl ash-Sharāt, is a highland region in modern-day southern Jordan and northwestern Saudi Arabia. It was formerly a sub-district in Bilad al-Sham during the 7th–11th centuries CE.

2017 Jordanian local elections

On 15 August 2017, Jordan held local elections for three levels of government: mayoralties, municipal and local councils, and governorate councils.

The 2018–19 Jordan FA Cup is the 39th season of the national football competition of Jordan. The winners of the competition earned a spot in the 2020 AFC Cup.
