Rev is an album by Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell, released in 1999. It is a combination of solo work and a best-of for the singer's bands.

Background

To fulfill requirements on a contract with Warner Bros. Records, this album was produced with a combination of solo, Jane's Addiction, and Porno for Pyros recordings. [1] [2] [3] Originally, the solo tracks were intended for a side project called "Gobalee". [4] The title track features Tom Morello and John Frusciante on guitars. [4] Farrell signed with Virgin Records shortly after Rev's release.

Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro and bassist Eric Avery, battling substance abuse issues, had left the band in 1991 in an attempt to stay clean, though the other half of the band wished to continue creating music. The remaining members of Jane's Addiction, Perry Farrell and Stephen Perkins, were joined by guitarist Peter DiStefano and future Jane's Addiction bassist Martyn LeNoble, and continued under the new band name Porno for Pyros. The band name is a reference to the 1992 Los Angeles riots, which are mentioned throughout the songs on the album as a recurring theme.

Etty Lau Farrell is an Asian American vocalist, dancer and actress. She began working in the entertainment industry in Los Angeles, appearing in numerous music videos as well as nationally televised award shows. Etty was part of the original Pussycat Dolls, when the group, as a dance troupe, had a monthly residency at the Viper Room. In 1997, she toured with Jane’s Addiction on their "It’s my party tour", later dubbed the "Relapse Tour" where she met her future husband Perry Farrell. "Pets" is a song by alternative rock band Porno for Pyros and the second single from their 1993 self-titled album Porno for Pyros. "The Cursed Female / Cursed Male" single preceded Pets, but saw only a limited radio station and promotional release, making Pets the first widely available commercial single from the album.

"Hard Charger" is a song written by Perry Farrell and recorded by Porno for Pyros. Dave Navarro and Flea play guitar and bass guitar on the track, which would lead them to join Jane's Addiction later that year.
