Rhyme Book is the second studio album by New Zealand rapper Scribe. It follows on from his 2003 award-winning album, The Crusader . It was released on 29 September 2007.
In an interview with The New Zealand Herald 's Scott Kara, Scribe said, "I really put a lot of thought into [Rhyme Book] and because I'd come from Scribe the rap star, I really wanted this album to be Scribe the dude next door. The real me rather than the guy on TV." [1] Musically, he wanted to record "a lot of different kinds of songs so in a way there's something in there for everyone. It's like a box of chocolates." [2] On Breakfast , Scribe said that "it's a good collection of...different types of hip hop...that's why I called it Rhyme Book because it kinda represents my rhyme book." He also wanted to show his growth and flexibility as an artist since The Crusader with different types of songs. [3]
Dirty Records and Warner Music released the album in New Zealand and Australia on 29 September 2007. [4] [5]

Rhyme Book received mixed reviews from critics. Allmusic's Jody Macgregor gave the album three-and-a-half out of five stars, describing it as "world-class, almost" because of a "few songs [that] hold Rhyme Book back from being a real classic". [6] Rebecca Barry of The New Zealand Herald said that Rhyme Book was not of the same calibre as The Crusader , but called it "a quality album that exposes a more thoughtful scribe on Scribe". [8] The reviewer from The Dominion Post was let down, and viewed the album as "a desperate attempt to be considered the Aotearoa version of Kanye West," and rated it two stars out of five." [7]
Rhyme Book won the Best Pacific Male Artist Award at the 2008 Pacific Music Awards, [9] and the award for Best Urban/Hip Hop Album at the 2008 New Zealand Music Awards. It was also nominated as the Album of the Year, losing to Flight of the Conchords' self-titled, debut album. [10]
Rhyme Book debuted on the New Zealand Albums Chart at its peak position of number four, and spent a total of four weeks on the top forty chart. [11] In Australia, the album debuted at number nine of the Australian Albums Chart, slipping to number eighteen the next week. After a total of four weeks in the top fifty, it fell off the chart. Malo Ioane Luafutu, also called Jeshua Ioane Luafutu, and better known by his stage name Scribe, is a New Zealand rapper of Samoan descent. He achieved two solo number ones on the singles chart from his debut album, The Crusader, which was released in 2003 in New Zealand and later certified four times platinum. He also reached number one as a featured artist on P-Money's 2004 song "Stop the Music", and in 2010 on R&B singer J.Williams' single "You Got Me".
Flight of the Conchords is a New Zealand musical comedy duo formed in Wellington in 1998. The band consists of multi-instrumentalists Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement. Beginning as a popular live comedy act in the early 2000s, the duo's comedy and music became the basis of the self-titled BBC radio series (2004) and then the HBO American television series (2007–2009).
Matthew Saunoa is a New Zealand pop singer who rose to musical fame as the winner of the third season of New Zealand Idol in 2006. After winning the third season, his winner's single, "Hold Out" topped the New Zealand Singles Chart, however it did not secure Saunoa an album contract with Sony Music. Saunoa did not release any further music independently, and in result experienced disappointment and periods of depression. Saunoa later appeared on Pop's Ultimate Star, and has since moved to the Gold Coast, Australia with his family, where he joined a band.
"My Shit" is a song from Scribe's second studio album, Rhyme Book. It was the first single from the album in New Zealand, and the second in Australia. The song was released in both countries on 11 August 2007. The song's lyrics contain references to the end of the world.
"F.R.E.S.H." was the second single released from Scribe's second studio solo album, Rhyme Book. It was released on 8 September 2007.
In Swings the Tide is the third studio album by New Zealand Pop recording artist Anika Moa. It was released on 8 October 2007 by EMI Records. The album reached number six on the New Zealand Albums Chart and was certified Platinum for selling over 15,000 copies.
"Dreaming" is the third single from Scribe's debut album, The Crusader. In New Zealand, it was released as a double A-side with "So Nice". Lyrically, the song is about Scribe's childhood aspirations. It had commercial success in New Zealand and Australia, appearing on the singles charts of both countries, and topping the former.
Stan Walker is an Australian-born New Zealand singer, actor, and television personality. In 2009, Walker was the winner of the seventh and last season of Australian Idol. He subsequently signed a recording contract with Sony Music Australia. In December 2009, Walker released his debut studio album, Introducing Stan Walker, which included the hit single, "Black Box". The album debuted at number three on the Australian ARIA Albums Chart and was certified platinum by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA). It also appeared on the New Zealand Albums Chart at number two and was certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of New Zealand (RIANZ).
The Experiment is the first solo studio album by New Zealand singer-songwriter Dane Rumble. Released by Rumble Music and Warner Music on 29 March 2010, it follows two years after the split of his hip hop group Fast Crew. Rumble found it difficult to write music for himself, and therefore deviated to the pop rock genre. The Experiment includes elements of dance-pop and pop rap, and lyrically focusses on personal issues. Rumble produced the album with Jonathan Campbell. In July 2010 Rumble embarked on The Edge Winter Jam: The Experiment Tour, which had him perform in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
Love in Motion is the fourth studio album by New Zealand singer-songwriter Anika Moa. The album's underlying theme is love. Moa's civil partner, Azaria Universe, was her biggest influence when writing the album. With Love in Motion, Moa moved from the folk and country pop influences of In Swings the Tide to a pop rock sound. The album was released by EMI Records internationally on 12 March 2010, with releases in Moa's home country and Australia following on 5 April and 10 September, respectively. Moa toured Westfield malls the week of the album's release, and a concert tour followed in May and June 2010.

The discography of Anika Moa, a New Zealand pop singer-songwriter, consists of four studio albums, twelve solo singles, three charity singles, and fifteen music videos. Moa was a finalist in the 1998 national Smokefreerockquest, and was subsequently signed to record labels Warner Music and Atlantic Records. She recorded her debut album, Thinking Room, in New York City, which was released in 2001. It focussed on the genre of pop, with elements of folk music, and hosted the singles "Youthful", "Good in My Head", "Falling in Love Again" and "Mother". "Falling in Love Again" provided Moa with her first chart success in Australia, reaching number sixty-one on the Australian Singles Chart. Thinking Room topped the New Zealand Albums Chart and was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of New Zealand (RIANZ). Stolen Hill, Moa's second studio effort, was released in 2005 and featured a darker tone, with Moa incorporating influences of rhythm and blues and swing music. The album was certified gold by the RIANZ.
The 2010 New Zealand Music Awards was the 45th holding of the annual ceremony featuring awards for musical artists based in or originating from New Zealand. Finalists for the three technical awards were announced on 16 August 2010 with winners announced on 1 September, the date on which finalists for 16 'non-technical' categories were revealed. Five 'non-technical' awards were presented without a group of finalists being selected. The awards ceremony took place on 7 October 2010 at Vector Arena, Auckland. Hosted by television presenter Shannon Ryan and comedian Ben Hurley, the ceremony was broadcast on television channel C4. Various musicians, most of whom had been nominated for awards, performed songs on the awards night.

The Radio Airplay Record of the Year is an Aotearoa Music Award presented annually to songs by local artists that receive high airplay. It was first presented in 2004 to Goldenhorse for "Maybe Tomorrow". No award was presented in 2005, but in 2006 it was reintroduced, with The Feelers claiming it for their single "Stand Up". Brooke Fraser's "Deciphering Me" followed in 2007, while Opshop won the award in 2008 with "Maybe". In 2009, "Always on My Mind", by Tiki Taane, was awarded the title. The New Zealand Music Award for Best Electronic Artist is an Aotearoa Music Award that honours New Zealand artists for outstanding dance-pop and electronica recordings.
"Betty" is a song by New Zealand recording artist, Brooke Fraser. Written by Fraser with Jon Foreman and Ben West, and produced by Fraser, the pop rock record centres on a girl who hides behind scars and birthmarks. The song was released on 6 December 2010 as the second single from Fraser's third studio album, Flags. "Betty" received generally positive reviews from critics, and has peaked at number thirty on the New Zealand Singles Chart. The accompanying music video takes place in a flower garden, and features lifelike paper birds.
Home Brew is the first studio album by New Zealand hip-hop group Home Brew. It was released by Young, Gifted & Broke on 1 May 2012. The album draws mainly from the genre of New Zealand hip hop, but is also jazz-influenced. Home Brew was promoted by a 48-hour-long release party and a six-show tour of New Zealand cities. The album was lauded by critics, and won the New Zealand Music Award for Best Urban/Hip Hop Album. It debuted top of the New Zealand Albums Chart.
