Rianne Downey is a Scottish singer-songwriter. Downey started her musical journey aged 16 and was awarded the James McAvoy scholarship for the Royal Conservatoire in Glasgow [1] whilst attended Cardinal Newman High School.
British magazine Far Out reported that Downey pursued a solo career by busking on the streets of Glasgow. [2]
Downey gained a loyal fanbase through online streams and covers, as well as original songs. Reyt Good Music magazine reported that Downey's music blends indie, country-pop, and folk influences.
Downey's debut single, Fuel to the Flame [3] , was released in February 2021 and Scottish Newspaper The Alloa Advertiser reported that Downey received more than 3,000 streams on the first day. [4]
In 2023, Downey was announced as the mystery singer to replace Jacqui Abbott, who, due to a health scare led to Abbott withdrawing from a festival concert in Warrington [5] with music legend Paul Heaton [6] and The Beautiful South.
Heaton & Downey both continued to work together on Heaton's subsequrnt sell out 2023 UK tour including performing on the main stage at TRNSMT and Scarborough Open Air Theatre. [7]
