The barangay,historically referred to as barrio,is the smallest administrative division in the Philippines. Named after the precolonial polities of the same name,modern barangays are political subdivisions of cities and municipalities which are analogous to villages,districts,neighborhoods,suburbs,or boroughs. The word barangay originated from balangay,a type of boat used by a group of Austronesian peoples when they migrated to the Philippines.
Iloilo,also called Iloilo Province,officially the Province of Iloilo,is a province in the Philippines located in the Western Visayas region. Its capital and largest city is Iloilo City,the regional center of Western Visayas and politically independent from the province. Iloilo occupies the southeast portion of the Visayan island of Panay and is bordered by the province of Antique to the west,Capiz to the north,the Jintotolo Channel to the northeast,the Guimaras Strait to the east,and the Iloilo Strait and Panay Gulf to the southwest. Iloilo City,its capital,is the center of the Iloilo–Guimaras metropolitan area or Metro Iloilo–Guimaras,and is geographically located in the province and grouped under it by the Philippine Statistics Authority,but remains politically independent from the provincial government. According to the 2020 census,the population of the province is 2,051,899. If Iloilo City is included,the population is 2,509,525 in total.
Capiz,officially the Province of Capiz,is a province in the Philippines located in the central section of Western Visayas region. Its capital is the city of Roxas,which is the most populous. It is located at the northeastern portion of Panay Island,bordering Aklan to the north,Antique to the west,and Iloilo to the south. Capiz faces the Sibuyan Sea to the north.
Miagao,officially the Municipality of Miagao,is a municipality in the province of Iloilo,Philippines. According to the 2020 census,it has a population of 68,115 people.
Guimbal,officially the Municipality of Guimbal,is a municipality in the province of Iloilo,Philippines. According to the 2020 census,it has a population of 35,022 people.
Igbaras,officially the Municipality of Igbaras,is a municipality in the province of Iloilo,Philippines. According to the 2020 census,it has a population of 32,197 people.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) is the local legislative body of a city government in the Philippines. The name of the legislative body comes from the Filipino words "sanggunian" ("council") –ultimately from the root word "sangguni" –both of Tagalog origins,with the latter word also of Kapampangan and Old Tagalog origins,and "lungsod" ("city") of both Tagalog –but ultimately Bisayan –origins;"city council" is therefore often used as an equivalent term in English or Philippine English. Janette Loreto Garin is a Filipina physician and politician who,since 2019,has been serving as the Representative for Iloilo's 1st district,a position she previously served in from 2004 to 2013. She was the Secretary of Health from 2015 to 2016 in the administration of President Benigno Aquino III. She is also a former provincial board member of Leyte and Iloilo,respectively.
Panay Railways,Inc. is a government-owned and controlled corporation of the Philippines that formerly operated railway systems on the islands of Panay and Cebu. It is headquartered in La Paz,Iloilo City,and is a subsidiary of Phividec Railways,Inc. under the Philippine Veterans Investment Development Corporation (PHIVIDEC). While Panay Railways currently does not operate any trains,it leases its property,and the generated revenue is utilized to cover personnel and administrative costs associated with maintaining its assets.

Atty. Carlo Petilla Loreto is the former vice governor of Leyte from 2013 until 2022. He is a lawyer by profession and is an advocate of environmental and humanitarian concerns. He is also the national vice-president in the League of Vice-Governors of the Philippines (LVGP) for Visayas. He is the former national president in the Provincial Board Members League of the Philippines and national secretary general of the National Movement of Young Legislators (NYML). He also holds various positions in different organizations and committees.

The Governor of Iloilo is the local chief executive of the Philippine province of Iloilo. The governor holds office at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol located at Bonifacio Drive,Iloilo City. Like all local government heads in the Philippines,the governor is elected via popular vote,and may not be elected for a fourth consecutive term. In case of death,resignation or incapacity,the vice governor becomes the governor. Along with the governors of Aklan,Antique,Capiz,andGuimaras,he sits in the Regional Development Council of the Western Visayas Region.
Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) in the Philippines were held on October 30,2023. The elected barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials already and legally began their terms earlier at noon on January 1,2023,and thus took office as soon as they were proclaimed to have won their respective positions. The barangay is the smallest administrative division in the country.
Iloilo's 1st congressional district is one of the five congressional districts of the Philippines in the province of Iloilo. It has been represented in the House of Representatives of the Philippines since 1916 and earlier in the Philippine Assembly from 1907 to 1916. The district consists of the municipalities of Guimbal,Igbaras,Miagao,Oton,San Joaquin,Tigbauan and Tubungan. It is currently represented in the 19th Congress by Janette Garin of the Lakas–CMD.
The Iloilo Provincial Board is the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of the Philippine province of Iloilo.
Local elections were held in the province of Zamboanga del Norte of the Philippines,on May 13,2019 as part of the 2019 general election. Voters selected candidates for all local positions:a municipal and city mayor,vice mayor and councilors,as well as members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan,the governor,vice governor and representatives for the three districts of Zamboanga del Norte.
