Rietvlei River

The Rietvlei River is a small river in central Gauteng Province, South Africa. It feeds the wetlands of the Rietvlei Nature Reserve, before it flows into Rietvlei Dam, which is one of the main sources of water for Pretoria. The river downstream of the dam is known as Sesmylspruit, which is a tributary of the Hennops River and part of the Crocodile River (Limpopo) basin.

Table View Primary School is a parallel medium school located in Table View, a west coast suburb of Cape Town in the Western Cape province of South Africa. The school has about 1,800 learners and 80 teachers. There is a strong emphasis on sports, culture and academics.

Thomas Moodie was a pioneer who in 1892 led a party of mostly Afrikaner farmers from the Orange Free State to settle in Rhodesia. Moodie, known as "Groot Tom", left Bethlehem on 5 May 1892 with his party, and settled on 4 January 1893, establishing the town of Melsetter, named after the Moodie ancestral home in the Orkney Islands. Thomas Moodie was buried in the Melsetter area. After his death, his wife Cecelia Moodie returned to her relatives in the ZAR where she died in 1905 and was buried on the farm Rietvlei, today known as the Rietvlei Nature Reserve, south of Pretoria.

<i>Leucospermum saxatile</i> The Karoo pincushion is a shrub in the family Proteaceae from the Western Cape of South Africa

Leucospermum saxatile is an evergreen, rising to sprawling shrub of ½–¾ m high and 1–1½ m (3⅓–5 ft) wide, from the family Proteaceae. It has reddish tinged flowering stems and line-shaped, narrowing wedge-shaped leaves of 2½–5 cm(1–2 in) long and 2–5 mm (0.08–0.20 in) wide, with one to three blunt teeth, whorl-shaped, flat-topped, at first pale lime green but later carmine flower heads of 2½–3 cm across, mostly individually but sometimes grouped with two or three, each on a stalk. The flower heads occur from July to October. From the flowers occur long styles with a slightly thicker tip, which together give the impression of a pincushion. It is called Karoo pincushion in English. Flowering heads can be found from July until February. It naturally occurs in fynbos in the Western Cape province of South Africa.

Jan de la Fontaine was governor of the Cape from 1729 to 1737, after also acting as governor in 1724 to 1727.
