Rim Ju-song (born 31 October 1995 [1] ) is a North Korean swimmer. [2] He was selected to be North Korea's sole representative for the country's first ever participation in the Paralympic Games,at the 2012 London Summer Paralympics. [3]
At the time when he was selected,he was living in Beijing. By the time North Korea received clearance to compete in London,it was "too late to qualify for most events,but swimming was an exception". Thus North Korea's representative would have to be a swimmer. Rim,who did not know how to swim,began to learn the crawl stroke in April 2012,reportedly with great difficulty at first,and the breaststroke in May. [4]
Rim is a left arm and left leg amputee,and also has limited use of his right leg and right foot,following "an accident on a construction site" at the age of five. He was able to make the Games upon receiving a wildcard invitation from the International Paralympic Committee,and with financial support from the British embassy in Pyongyang. [3] He competed in freestyle swimming in the S6 disability category. [1] His time in qualifying prior to the Games (disregarded as he was invited to the Games notwithstanding) was 1:10.00,i.e. 35.3 seconds slower than the slowest actual qualifier. [5]
Natalie du Toit OIG MBE is a South African swimmer. She is best known for the gold medals she won at the 2004 Paralympic Games as well as the Commonwealth Games. She was one of two Paralympians to compete at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing;the other being table tennis player Natalia Partyka. Du Toit became the third amputee ever to qualify for the Olympics,where she placed 16th in the 10km swim.
Eleanor May Simmonds,OBE is a British former Paralympian swimmer who competed in S6 events. She came to national attention when she competed in the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing,winning two gold medals for Great Britain. She was the youngest member of the team,at the age of 13.

S6,SB5,SM6 are para-swimming classifications used for categorising swimmers based on their level of disability. This class includes people with a number of different types of disability including short stature,major limb impairment or loss in two limbs. This includes people with cerebral palsy,people with dwarfism and amputees. The class competes at the Paralympic Games.
North Korea made its Paralympic Games début at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London,United Kingdom,from August 29 to September 9.
Matthew Anthony "Matt" Haanappel,is an Australian Paralympic swimmer. He was born in Wantirna,Victoria and resides in the far eastern suburbs of Melbourne. He has cerebral palsy right hemiplegia. Haanappel has represented Australia at the 2012 Summer Paralympics,the 2013 IPC Swimming World Championships,the 2014 Pan Pacific Para Swimming Championships,the 2016 Summer Paralympics,and the 2018 Commonwealth Games. He represents the Camberwell Grammar School Aquatic club.
Aaron Rhind is an Australian swimmer. He was selected to represent Australia at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in the 200 m individual medley and 50 m butterfly swimming events. He did not medal at the 2012 Games.

Competing as a S6 classification swimmer she favoured mainly 50 m and 100m freestyle competitions. After retiring from swimming Chippington returned to disability sport,becoming a world class paracanoeist,winning gold at the 2016 Summer Paralympics and bronze at 2020 Tokyo Paralympics.
Ernie Agat Gawilan is a Filipino swimmer who competed at the 2016 and 2020 Summer Paralympics and was the first gold medalist for the Philippines in the Asian Para Games.

Zheng Tao is a Chinese para swimmer and five-time Paralympic champion. He is known as the "armless swimmer". He made a world record by winning 4 gold medals in Tokyo 2020 Paralympic.
Swimming at the 2020 Summer Paralympics was held at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre. There were 146 events - six fewer events than the 2016 Summer Paralympics. Swimming is the second largest sport:behind athletics and ahead of table tennis.
