Risto Hemmi

Risto Hemmi (born 1956, Kuopio)[ citation needed ] is a prominent figure in the Finnish music industry. [1] For a long time, he was the CEO of Finland's largest recording studio, [2] Finnvox Studios, and is still a board member and one of the owners. Hemmi began his career at Finnvox in 1979 [3] and has worked in various capacities such as a sound engineer, mixer, and studio manager. He served as the CEO of the studio from 1993 until recently. All of Finnvox's nine studios have been designed by Hemmi. [4]

One of Hemmi's early commercially successful works was the Pelle Miljoona Oy's album "Moottoritie on kuuma" (1980). [5] Hemmi has recorded and mixed over 500 albums, [6] many of which have achieved gold or platinum status. In addition to his work in the studio, Hemmi has also contributed to the film industry by recording and mixing music for about thirty films, [7] including the 2014 film Big Game, directed by Jalmari Helander and starring Samuel L. Jackson.

Hemmi was born in Kuopio and spent his childhood in Rovaniemi and Kemi. During his high school years in Kemi, Hemmi played guitar in a band called Fugging Great, which opened for now iconic bands such as Hurriganes and Rauli Badding Somerjoki. [8] Hemmi graduated as a Master of Science in Engineering from the Helsinki University of Technology.[ citation needed ] Since 2013, he has been teaching master's level courses in music technology at the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts. He was 13th in New York City Marathon 1995 and participated in Olympic marathon 1996.

The Tapiola Choir is a children's choir from Espoo, Finland. The choir was founded in 1963 by Erkki Pohjola. Pohjola led the choir from its formation until 1994 and cultivated a pedagogical style based on the teachings of Zoltan Kodály and Carl Orff. During Pohjola's tenure as artistic director the choir undertook some fifty tours of the USA, Japan and the USSR among other countries. In 1994 the director's post was taken over by Kari Ala-Pöllänen and in 2008 by Pasi Hyökki.

Helldone was an annual music festival organized by Finnish gothic rock band HIM. Typically held on 31 December at the Tavastia Club, and its companion club the Semifinal, in Helsinki, Finland, Helldone began in 1999 as an annual New Year's Eve show for HIM, which grew out of vocalist Ville Valo's "hatred for music parties" and need to "do something more than just get fucked up at midnight". The shows were expanded into a festival in 2005 and renamed Helldone after the band's booking agent Tiina Vuorinen, née Welldone, and their hometown of Helsinki. Helldone also took-up a policy of named tickets, where attendees were required to provide identification matching their ticket upon entry to the venue.

Helsinki light rail line 15 is a 25-kilometre (16 mi) light rail line connecting Keilaniemi in Espoo and Itäkeskus in Helsinki, Finland. Known during construction as Jokeri light rail, construction was started in June 2019 and the line began operating in October 2023, about 10 months ahead of the original schedule. The line replaced the trunk bus line 550, the busiest bus service on the Helsinki Regional Transport Authority public transport network, at the end of 2023.
