The AllMusic review by Thom Jurek stated: "On one collection, listeners get music for prayer, contemplation, and grief, as well as a funky European read of indigenous music for moving to and celebrating. Clearly this is what sets Rites above Garbarek's other recordings, him taking that balance he possessed so early in his career back again and putting it to work in a near-sacred setting." [2]

Jan Garbarek is a Norwegian jazz saxophonist, who is also active in classical music and world music.
In Praise of Dreams is an album by Jan Garbarek recorded over the last week of March and the first week of April in 2003 and released on ECM the following year. In 2005, it was nominated for the Grammy for Best Contemporary Jazz Album.
Jansug Ivanes dze Kakhidze was a Georgian musician, composer, singer and conductor nicknamed "the Georgian Karajan". Kakhidze was music director of the Georgian State Symphony Orchestra for two decades beginning in 1973. He is the father of composer and conductor Vakhtang Kakhidze.
