Robert Ruecho is a Micronesian politician and diplomat. Ruecho served as the Governor of Yap,one of the four states which make up the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM),from 2003 to 2007. He became the Consul-General for FSM on neighboring Guam on October 17,2011. [1]
Robert Ruecho was elected Governor of Yap in the 2002 gubernatorial election and took office in 2003. His running mate in 2002 was Joseph Habuchimai,who became Yap's lieutenant governor. Ruecho was defeated for re-election by Sebastian Anefal in 2006.
Ruecho moved to Guam in 2008. [2] He served on the Advisory on Micronesian Affairs for former Guam Governor Felix Camacho. [2]
Micronesian President Manny Mori nominated Ruecho as FSM's Consul-General to Guam in July 2011. [1] He was chosen to replace outgoing,longtime consul-general,Gerson Jackson. [3] Ruecho was confirmed by the FSM Congress in August 2011. [2] [4]
Ruecho sworn into office at 11:30 p.m. on October 17,2011,at the International Trade Center in Guam by President Manny Mori. [5] President Mori was on an official visit to Guam at the time to meet with members of the Micronesian migrant community. [1] [3] Ruecho's challenges include increased tensions between Guamanians and the Micronesian community over recent gang related crime on the island. [3]
The Federated States of Micronesia,or simply Micronesia,is an island country in Micronesia,a subregion of Oceania. The federation consists of four states—from west to east:Yap,Chuuk,Pohnpei,and Kosrae—that span across the western Pacific just north of the equator,for a longitudinal distance of almost 2,700 km (1,700 mi). Typhoon Sudal,known in the Philippines as Typhoon Cosme,was the strongest typhoon to strike the island of Yap in the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) in about 50 years. Yap is one of the four administrative divisions of the FSM. The entire island,only 17 km (11 mi) in length,experienced typhoon force winds,and 90% of the structures were damaged or destroyed. Damage was most severe in southeastern Yap,where the eyewall struck and winds exceeded 185 km/h (115 mph),but the center of the typhoon passed south of the island.

An independence referendum for Chuuk State to secede from the Federated States of Micronesia was originally scheduled to take place in March 2015. However,it has been delayed three times and it is uncertain if it will take place. The most populous of the four states within the FSM,Chuuk has high levels of unemployment and there are long-standing tensions over the distribution of funding within the FSM. Other concerns include political power within the federation and the preservation of cultural identity.
Typhoon Maysak,known in the Philippines as Super Typhoon Chedeng,was the most powerful pre-April tropical cyclone on record in the Northwestern Pacific Ocean. The fourth named storm of the 2015 Pacific typhoon season,Maysak originated as a tropical depression on March 26. The next day,the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) upgraded the depression to a tropical storm and assigned it the name Maysak. According to the JMA,Maysak became the second typhoon of the year on March 28. The typhoon underwent explosive intensification into a Category 5 super typhoon on March 31,passing near the islands of Chuuk and Yap in the Federated States of Micronesia. After maintaining that intensity for 18 hours,Maysak weakened,made landfall over the Philippine island of Luzon as a minimal tropical storm,and dissipated shortly afterwards.

The church's first known missionaries arrived on July 5,1978. As of December 31,2022,there were 5,966 members in 23 congregations in FSM. The LDS Church has congregations in every state in the FSM.
