Presque Isle is the commercial center and largest city in Aroostook County, Maine, United States. The population was 8,797 at the 2020 Census. The city is home to the University of Maine at Presque Isle, Northern Maine Community College, Northern Maine Fairgrounds, the Aroostook Centre Mall, and the Presque Isle International Airport.

Edwin Chick Burleigh was an American politician who served as the 42nd Governor of Maine from 1889 to 1893. Jeffery Allen Gifford was an American politician in the state of Maine. Gifford served as a Republican member of the Maine House of Representatives, representing the House District 12 from 2006 until 2014. He served on the House Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Committee (third-term), and then House District 142 from 2020 until his death on June 12, 2022. He was first elected in 2006, was re-elected in 2008, 2010 and 2012. He was elected again in 2020 in what was by this time House District 142. He was running for reelection in the redrawn and renumbered House District 28 at the time of his death.

John Lisnik was an American politician and administrator in the University of Maine System. In 1980, Lisnik was elected to the Maine House of Representatives as a Democrat, replacing retiring Republican Bruce Roope. Lisnik was born in Presque Isle, Maine and graduated from area schools in 1965 before enlisting in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a paratrooper and was honorably discharged in 1968 after serving in the 101st Airborne Division. He graduated from the University of Maine at Presque Isle in 1972 and taught social studies in Falmouth, Maine for a year. He then received a fellowship to study at the University of Notre Dame, where he earned a M.A. in government and international affairs. He returned to Aroostook County thereafter and taught at Caribou High School. At the time of his announcement to run for the House of Representatives, Lisnik was vice chairman of the Presque Isle city democratic committee.

In 2010, the Republican Willette was elected to represent District 7 in the Maine House of Representatives, covering much of central Aroostook County including part of the city of Presque Isle. He served as the Assistant Republican Leader, and, during his time in the Legislature, was both the youngest member of legislative leadership in Maine's history and the youngest in the United States.

Richard M. Cebra is an American politician from Maine. A Republican, he represented Maine House of Representatives District 101, which included Casco, Naples and part of Poland from 2004 to 2012. He was elected to the 128th Legislature in November 2016 serving district House District 68, which includes the towns of Naples, Sebago, Baldwin, Cornish and part of Parsonfield. Following his initial departure from the legislature in 2012, he served as chairman of the Maine Republican Party, from which he stepped down in 2013. Cebra is known as a social and fiscal conservative, and was a close ally of Governor Paul LePage.

She has chaired numerous local and state boards and organizations, including the Caribou School Board, the Maine Committee for Judicial Responsibility and Disability, Catholic Charities Maine, and the University of Maine Board of Trustees. She was inducted into the Maine Women's Hall of Fame in 2005.
