Trap is a subgenre of hip hop music pioneered by Atlanta rappers T.I., Jeezy, and Gucci Mane, which originated in the Southern United States, with lyrical references to trap starting in 1991 but the modern sound of trap appearing in 1999. The genre gets its name from the Atlanta slang term "trap house", a house used exclusively to sell drugs. Trap music is known for its simple, rhythmic, minimalistic productions that uses synthesized drums, and is characterized by complex hi-hat patterns, snare drums, bass drums, some tuned with a long decay to emit a bass frequency, and lyrical content that often focuses on drug use and urban violence.

Critically acclaimed for his dark production style, he is regarded as one of the most influential producers in modern hip hop and trap music. His frequent collaborators include Future, Young Thug, the Weeknd, Travis Scott, Don Toliver, 21 Savage, Gucci Mane, Gunna and Nav.
Belcalis Marlenis Cephus, known professionally as Cardi B, is an American rapper. She is one of the most commercially successful female rappers of her generation. Born and raised in New York City, she first gained popularity through videos shared on Vine and Instagram. From 2015 to early 2017, she appeared as a regular cast member on the VH1 reality television series Love & Hip Hop: New York, which depicted her pursuit of her music aspirations, and earned further recognition with the release of her two mixtapes: Gangsta Bitch Music, Vol. 1 (2016) and Vol. 2 (2017).

In 2017, he released Without Warning, in collaboration with fellow Atlanta-based rapper 21 Savage and American record producer Metro Boomin. The album entered at number four on the US Billboard 200. The album spawned the single "Ric Flair Drip", which has been certified six-times platinum by the RIAA.
"Mickey" is a song by American rapper Lil Yachty featuring fellow American rappers Offset of Migos and Lil Baby. It was released as the 12th track off of Yachty's second studio album Lil Boat 2. The track peaked at number seven on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart and at number 79 on the Canadian Hot 100.
"Buss It" is a song recorded by American rapper Erica Banks. Written by Banks and produced by Sgt. J, the song was released on May 15, 2020, through 1501 Certified Entertainment and later through Warner Records as the lead single from Banks's self-titled fourth mixtape. It became popular on the video-sharing platform TikTok in early 2021 and peaked at number 47 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. A remix featuring American rapper and singer Travis Scott was released in February 2021.
City Girls were an American hip hop duo consisting of Yung Miami and JT, both of whom originate from Miami, Florida. The duo signed with Quality Control Music, an imprint of Motown and Capitol Records in 2017 to release their debut mixtape, Period (2018) the following year. Two months later, they garnered mainstream attention following their guest performances on Drake's 2018 single, "In My Feelings", which peaked atop the Billboard Hot 100.
Johnathan Jamall Porter, known professionally as Blueface, is an American rapper. In October 2018, after releasing the music video for his song "Respect My Cryppin'", he became a viral meme due to his offbeat style of rapping. The following month, he was signed to Cash Money West, the West Coast branch of Birdman's Cash Money Records label.
"Opp Stoppa" is a song by American rapper YBN Nahmir, first released in June 2019. A sleeper hit, it went viral on TikTok in 2020 and was subsequently re-released on November 24, 2020. Two remixes of the song have since been released in 2021, the first featuring British-American rapper 21 Savage and the second featuring American rapper Lil Eazzyy. The song is also the lead single from YBN Nahmir's debut studio album Visionland (2021).
"No More Parties" is the major-label debut single by American rapper Coi Leray, released on January 22, 2021, through 1801 Records and Republic Records. The song was Leray's first release of 2021. Leray wrote the song alongside its producers Maaly Raw and Okaykhan. It is a mumble rap and R&B song with piano, "skittering" claps, and a subtle bass line, over which Leray rap-sings about elevating her life and career, while also venting about her father, Benzino.
"Beat Box" is the debut single by American rapper SpotemGottem. It was released on April 20, 2020, while the first remix, titled "Beat Box 2", featuring SpotemGottem linking up with American rapper Pooh Shiesty, was released on December 18, 2020, alongside a video, and as part of Spotem's debut mixtape, Final Destination. The first remix pushed the song to viral status on the video-sharing app TikTok, spawning the "#JunebugChallenge", and later became SpotemGottem's first chart entry.
"Who Want Smoke?" is a song by American rapper Nardo Wick. It was released through Flawless Entertainment and RCA Records as a single on January 22, 2021. The official remix, which features G Herbo, Lil Durk, and 21 Savage, was released on October 8, 2021. The original was certified platinum by the RIAA in November 2021. The song is included on Wick's debut album, Who Is Nardo Wick?, released on December 3, 2021.

Gloria Hallelujah Woods, known professionally as GloRilla, is an American rapper from Memphis, Tennessee. She first became known for her 2022 single "F.N.F. ", which peaked within the top 50 of the Billboard Hot 100 and led her to sign with fellow Memphis rapper, Yo Gotti's record label, Collective Music Group, an imprint of Interscope Records in July of that year. Released that same month, her follow-up single, "Tomorrow" spawned a remixed sequel that peaked within the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 and received double platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Both songs, along with the gold-certified single "Blessed", preceded the release of her debut extended play (EP), Anyways, Life's Great in November, which entered the Billboard 200 at number 11.

Shyniece Thomas, known professionally as Lola Brooke, is an American rapper. Born and raised in Brooklyn, she is best known for her 2021 single "Don't Play with It", which gained popularity on Twitter and TikTok the following year. She signed with Arista Records in 2023.
Sierra Lucas, known professionally as ScarLip, is an American rapper. Her 2022 single "Glizzy Gobbler" went viral on TikTok and she signed a distribution deal with Epic Records the following year after releasing her breakout single "This is New York".
"Point Me to the Slut's" is a single by American rapper FendiDa Rappa, released on December 5, 2022. It became her breakout song through going viral on the video-sharing app TikTok. On July 7, 2023, the official remix of the song, titled "Point Me 2", with American rapper Cardi B was released. The remix became Fendi's first entry on the US Billboard Hot 100 at number 82.
"Never Lose Me" is a song by American rapper Flo Milli, released on November 30, 2023, through '94 Sounds and RCA Records as the lead single from her second studio album, Fine Ho, Stay (2024). The song contains a sample of "Ron Artest" by Babyface Ray and 42 Dugg, which itself samples "Anata Ga Iru Jinsei" by Japanese artist Jin Kirigaya.
