Rocky Gap is an unincorporated community and census designated place (CDP) that is located in Bland County in the U.S. state of Virginia. [1] In the year of 2016, there was an estimate that there were a total of 511 people living in Rocky Gap. [2] Rocky Gap has one zip code (24366).

Contents

The community is connected to neighboring Bluefield, WV by the East River Mountain Tunnel, which carries Interstate 77 beneath East River Mountain. It is in the heart of the Ridge-and-Valley Appalachians.

Geography

Rocky Gap is located along the border with West Virginia, about 8 miles from Bluefield, WV. Rocky Gap has a total area of 4 miles and 95% of it is land the other 5% is water. Although only 5% water, Rocky Gap is somewhat unusual in that the waters of Clear Fork, Laurel Fork and Wolf Creek all converge at nearly the same point less than a hundred yards from each other. This spot where the three waters meet is well known for large trout and has been a favorite spot for many anglers from all over Virginia and West Virginia.

U.S. Route 52 (US 52) skirts the western fringes of the U.S. state of West Virginia. It runs from the Virginia state line near Bluefield, where it is concurrent with Interstate 77 (I-77), in a general northwest and north direction to I-64 at Kenova. There it turns east, overlapping I-64 for five miles (8.0 km) before splitting off onto the West Huntington Expressway into Ohio via the West Huntington Bridge. Despite having an even number, US 52 is signed north–south in West Virginia. In some other states along its route, it is signed east-west. The West Virginia segment is signed such that US 52 north corresponds to the general westward direction of the highway, and vice versa. For a while, US 52 parallels US 23, which is on the other side of the Big Sandy River in Kentucky. This continues into Ohio, where US 52 travels on the Ohio side of the Ohio River while US 23 travels on the Kentucky side.

Virginia State Route 102 and West Virginia Route 102 are adjoining state highways in the U.S. states of Virginia and West Virginia. The two state highways together run 11.4 miles (18.3 km) from Center Street in Pocahontas, Virginia east to the Virginia – West Virginia state line between the twin cities of Bluefield, Virginia and Bluefield, West Virginia. Most of Route 102 consists of three sections in Virginia maintained by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT); the two intervening sections in West Virginia are maintained by the West Virginia Division of Highways. Earling is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Logan County, West Virginia, United States. It was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census. The Earling post office closed on July 1, 1989. The town now shares ZIP Code 25632 with Lyburn and Taplin.
