Rohitashv Gour is an Indian actor best known for his leading character in the TV sitcoms Lapataganj and Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hai! that ranks among the longest running Indian comedy sitcoms.

Early and personal life

Gour was born in Kalka and was a student of National School of Drama, New Delhi. [1]

Career

Rohitashv Gour made his Bollywood debut in the 2001 biographical film Veer Savarkar . [2] Although he has acted in 11 Bollywood films so far, most of them are very minor roles like police inspector role in college drama of Kya Kehna etc. He portrayed the role of Mukundilal Gupta, in the SAB TV sitcom Lapataganj – Sharad Joshi Ki Kahaniyon Ka Pata . He is currently working in &TVs comedy show Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hai! as Manmohan Tiwari, an undergarments business man. He also acted in a 1990s television serial named Ehsaas. His second film was 2002 Irrfan Khan starrer Pratha. [3] He then acted in 2003 film Pinjar , where he played the role of protagonist's (Manoj Bajpai) brother. [4] The same year, he acted in two more movies, Dhoop directed by the National Award winning director Ashwini Chaudhary [5] and in Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. where he played the role of nariyal pani waala (coconut water vendor). [6] After a one-year gap, he starred in 2005 film Matrubhoomi – A Nation Without Women . [7] The same year, he starred in Sun Zarra , [8] Lage Raho Munna Bhai , the sequel to the 2003 film Munna Bhai M.B.B.S., wherein he portrayed the role of Cuckoo, the antagonist Lucky Singh's (Boman Irani) secretary [9] and in Dil Se Pooch? Kidhar Jaana Hai. [10] Again after a gap of a year, in 2008, he was seen in the comedy film One Two Three [11] (uncredited remake of Blame it on the Bellboy ) and the much critically acclaimed A Wednesday! , where he portrayed the role of Ikhlaque Ahmed, a fictional terrorist. [12] In 2010 he acted in the film Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge? , where he portrayed the role of a bank manager. [13] His latest release was PK in 2014 where he played as a police constable named Pandey Ji. [14]

Gracy Singh portrays the female lead, being replaced by Vidya Balan in the sequel, and Arshad Warsi portrays the role of Munna's sidekick, Circuit, while Boman Irani, Rohini Hattangadi, Jimmy Sheirgill and Neha Dubey also appear in the film. Based in Mumbai, the film follows Munna trying to please his father by pretending to be a doctor, but when a doctor, Asthana (Irani), exposes Munna's lies and tarnishes his father's honour, Munna enrolls in an Indian medical college with the help of Circuit. Chaos ensue when Munna, on finding that Asthana is the dean of the college, vows revenge, while also sparking a romance with a house doctor, Suman (Singh), unaware that she is Asthana's daughter and his childhood friend, "Chinki".

Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge? is a 2010 Indian Hindi-language comedy film directed by Ashwni Dhir, and produced by Amita Pathak. Loosely based on the short story Tum Kab Jaoge, Athithi? by Sharad Joshi, the film stars Ajay Devgn, Paresh Rawal and Konkona Sen Sharma. It was released on 5 March 2010. The film was a commercial success and earned more than double its budget. It received numerous nominations at Indian award ceremonies.

The Producers Guild Film Award for Best Debut Director is given by the producers of the film and television guild as part of its annual award ceremony for Hindi films, to recognise the work of new directors. Following its inception in 2004, no one was awarded in 2005 and from 2007-09.
