The Filmfare Best Villain Award was given by Filmfare as part of its annual Filmfare Awards for Hindi films, to recognise an actor who had delivered an outstanding performance in a negative role. Although the awards started in 1954, this category was first introduced in 1992 and has been marked as obsolete since 2007.
Sangharsh (transl. Struggle) is a 1999 Indian Hindi-language psychological horror thriller film directed by Tanuja Chandra. It stars Akshay Kumar, Preity Zinta, and Ashutosh Rana. Alia Bhatt, who would later be an established Bollywood actress in the 2010s, made a cameo as a child artist in this film, playing the younger version of Zinta's character. The film opened to positive reviews, with critical acclaim for the performances by Kumar and Zinta, as well as Rana's villainous turn.

It is the sequel to the 2011 film, Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster and the second installment of the Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster film series. The film stars Jimmy Sheirgill and Mahi Gill, who reprised their roles from the previous film, while new additions to the cast include Irrfan Khan and Soha Ali Khan. The film was released on 8 March 2013. Jimmy Shergill won Best Actor Award for this film at 11th Norway Bollywood Film Festival in Oslo. A sequel titled Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster 3 was released on 27 July 2018 and got poor reviews because of its poor script and weak plotlines.

Raag Desh is a 2017 Indian historical action drama film directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia and produced by Gurdeep Singh Sappal and Rajya Sabha TV. The film is based on Indian National Army trials, the joint court martial of Indian National Army officers Colonel Prem Sahgal, Colonel Gurbaksh Singh Dhillon, and Major Shah Nawaz Khan on charges of treason against the British Empire during World War 2. The leading roles in Raag Desh have been played by Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh, Mohit Marwah and Mrudula Murali. The film was released on 28 July 2017. Rishi Punjabi is the cinematographer of the film.

Irrfan Khan was an Indian actor who worked in Indian and British-American films. His on-screen debut was a minor role in Mira Nair's Salaam Bombay! in 1988. Khan found his television work unfulfilling and considered quitting acting.

The third film Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster 3 released in 2018 and received poor reviews from critics for its script and weak plotlines and became a disaster at the box office.
