The Royal Dutch Mathematical Society (Koninklijk Wiskundig Genootschap in Dutch, abbreviated as KWG) was founded in 1778. [1] It is the oldest professional mathematical society. Its goal is to promote the development of mathematics, both from a theoretical and applied point of view.
The society publishes the quarterly journal Nieuw Archief voor Wiskunde , the magazine Pythagoras for high school children, and the scientific journal Indagationes Mathematicae .
Every year the society organizes a winter symposium for high school teachers. Bi-annually it organizes the Dutch Mathematical Congress. Once every three years, the society awards the prestigious Brouwer Medal to a distinguished mathematician. This medal is named after L. E. J. Brouwer.

The society has the following institutional members: [3]
The Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica is a research center in the field of mathematics and theoretical computer science. It is part of the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) and is located at the Amsterdam Science Park. This institute is famous as the creation ground of the Python Programming Language. It was a founding member of the European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics (ERCIM).
Dirk Jan Struik was a Dutch-born American mathematician, historian of mathematics and Marxian theoretician who spent most of his life in the U.S.
Diederik Johannes Korteweg was a Dutch mathematician. He is now best remembered for his work on the Korteweg–de Vries equation, together with Gustav de Vries.
Jan Arnoldus Schouten was a Dutch mathematician and Professor at the Delft University of Technology. He was an important contributor to the development of tensor calculus and Ricci calculus, and was one of the founders of the Mathematisch Centrum in Amsterdam.
The Stripschapprijs is a Dutch prize awarded to comic creators for their entire body of work. It is awarded annually by the Stripschap, the Dutch Society of comics fans, since 1974. The prize is non-pecuniary, but is considered the most important award for comics in the country.
Hendrik Willem Lenstra Jr. is a Dutch mathematician.
Willem Abraham Wythoff, born Wijthoff, was a Dutch mathematician.
Indagationes Mathematicae is a Netherlands mathematics journal.
Gerrit Mannoury was a Dutch philosopher and mathematician, professor at the University of Amsterdam and communist, known as the central figure in the signific circle, a Dutch counterpart of the Vienna circle.
Dirck Rembrandtsz van Nierop was a seventeenth-century Dutch cartographer, mathematician, surveyor, astronomer, teacher and vermaner.
Adriaan Cornelis "Aad" Zaanen was a Dutch mathematician working in analysis. He is known for his books on Riesz spaces.
Frits Beukers is a Dutch mathematician, who works on number theory and hypergeometric functions.
Julius Wolff was a Dutch mathematician, known for the Denjoy–Wolff theorem and for his boundary version of the Schwarz lemma.
Michiel Hazewinkel is a Dutch mathematician, and Emeritus Professor of Mathematics at the Centre for Mathematics and Computer Science and the University of Amsterdam, particularly known for his 1978 book Formal groups and applications and as editor of the Encyclopedia of Mathematics.
Wiktor Eckhaus was a Polish–Dutch mathematician, known for his work on the field of differential equations. He was Professor Emeritus of Applied Mathematics at the Utrecht University.
Cornelis Gerrit Lekkerkerker was a Dutch mathematician.
Catherine Huafei Yan is a professor of mathematics at Texas A&M University interested in algebraic combinatorics.
Diane Margaret Maclagan is a professor of mathematics at the University of Warwick. She is a researcher in combinatorial and computational commutative algebra and algebraic geometry, with an emphasis on toric varieties, Hilbert schemes, and tropical geometry.
Lucien Birgé is a French mathematician.
The Korteweg-de Vries Institute for Mathematics (KdVI) is the institute for mathematical research at the University of Amsterdam. The KdVI is located in Amsterdam at the Amsterdam Science Park.
