Rungta College, Bhilai also known as Santosh Rungta Group of Colleges [1] is a group of private educational institutions in Central India [2] [3] [4] [5] in the city of Durg, Chhattisgarh. [6] The multiple campuses under it are affiliated with Chhattisgarh Swami Vivekananda Technical University (CSVTU), [7] [8] Hemchand Yadav University, Durg. [9] It has a combined campus size of over 150 acres. [10] [11] It was also ranked 25th Top Engineering (Private) Colleges in India in 2023 by India Today [12] and ranked 6 by Outlook India as India's top B-Schools 2022 [13] The Group also holds the Guinness world record for maximum number of people in a singing relay - single song. [14]

History and governance

Inception

Rungta College was established in 1999 under the GDR Educational Society for Higher & Technical Education Founded by Ghanshyam Das Rungta. [15] The group chairman Santosh Rungta [16] [17] expanded it from one engineering college to a group which has one Engineering College, [18] two pharmacy colleges, and a commerce and science college. [19]

It comprises four colleges, offering education in disciplines like Engineering, Pharmacy, Research, Science, Commerce, and Education.

Rungta College of Engineering and Technology, Bhilai (RCET)

Established in 1999, [20] RCET offers undergraduate, postgraduate, doctorate and diploma degrees in engineering and technology. [21] [6] It is affiliated with Chhattisgarh Swami Vivekanand Technical University (CSVTU). [22] [8] [23]

Rungta College of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research (RCPSR)

Established in 2006, [24] RCPSR offers pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences programs at Diploma, undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctorate levels, including D.Pharmacy, B.Pharmacy, M. Pharmacy in Pharmacology / Pharmaceutics, and PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences [25] [26]

GD Rungta College of Science & Technology (GDRCST)

Established in 2006, it is an institution of science and Commerce education and is affiliated with Hemchand Yadav University, Durg. GD Rungta College of Science & Technology has also received accreditation from the National Council for Teachers Education (NCTE) New Delhi. [27] GDRCST offers programs at PG diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate levels, including B.Sc., B. Com, BBA, BCA, B.A., PGDCA, B.Ed., M.Ed, M.Sc, MSW, D.Ed., B.Ed., M.Ed. etc. [28]

Rungta Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (RIPER)

Established in 2018, also offers pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences programs at only Diploma & undergraduate levels - D.Pharmacy and B.Pharmacy. [29]

Ranking and accreditation

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranked Rungta College of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research (RCPSR) among the top 100 colleges in India. [30]

Rungta College of Engineering & Technology (RCET) was Ranked in 101-150 band in NIRF Innovation Category in 2023. [31] [32] [33] [34]

Notable annual events

SHAASTRARTH - Annual international conference with speakers from prestigious institutions. [35] [36] [37] In 2024, The conference was held on 5 & 6 January 2024 at RCET campus as two-day program for bringing innovation in research. [38] Sanjay S Gaur of NYU presented on augmentative and virtual reality technology and its impact in virtual pilgrimage, health and agriculture. [39] [40] [41]

PLACEMENTNAMAA- An initiative by Rungta Educational Foundation, a mega job fair to help students in the region secure placements. [42] [43]

CHESS- 'Chhattisgarh Entrepreneurship and Startup Summit 2023 under entrepreneurship Awareness Drive (CHESS 2023)', a national-level startup event in Chhattisgarh. [44] [45]

RUHI- The HR Conclave to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and insights through panel discussions, workshops, and networking opportunities within the field of Human Resources. [46] [47] [48]

AICTE Smart India Hackathon [49] - Rungta College became the nodal centre for Smart India Hackathon 2023, observing participation of students from 11 states and 178 students. [50] [51]

Rungta College is the only government-affiliated college in Chhattisgarh that hosts international students from more than 15 countries on its campus. The campus has students from nations, like Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and different African Countries. [57] [58] [12]

Rungta College has 19 utility patents, 50 Design patents and 23 books with 50 book chapters published. [59] [60]

The foundation stone for its campus in the village Dhaneli, in Raipur district was laid on 11 October 2018. Ghadi Chowk Raipur also known as "Guru Ghasidas Time Square" is a clock tower located in the heart of Raipur city of Chhattisgarh, India. Constructed in 1995 and the structure was inaugurated on 19 December 1995. This place is considered an important landmark in Raipur and has become iconic symbol of Raipur. A six-foot diameter mechanical clock was installed around its pillar, about 50 feet high, made of concrete. After every hour in the clock, the bell in its turret used to ring. To popularize the folk tunes of Chhattisgarh. Raipur Development Authority decided to combine the folk tunes of Chhattisgarh before the sound of the bell ringing after every hour in Nagarghari so that the common man can also become familiar with the folk tunes of Chhattisgarh.

Kiran Pisda is an Indian professional footballer who plays as a forward for the Indian Women's League club Odisha and the India women's national football team. She is the first player from Chhattisgarh to play for the Indian senior national team.

Nitin Dubey is an Indian singer, composer, actor, and lyricist. Born in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh. Dubey is known for his work as a composer, vocalist, music director, and playback singer in Chhattisgarh cinema and as a performer at various national level music festivals and bhajan programs.

<i>Farishta</i> (2023 film) 2023 Bhojpuri Film

Farishta is a 2023 Indian Bhojpuri-language drama film produced by S. S. Reddy, directed by Lal Babu Pandit and written by Arvind Tiwari. It stars Khesari Lal Yadav, Meghasri, Pooja Gaguly, Amit Shukla in the main roles. The story revolves around Murari, a mentally challenged person, who is not accepted by his family.
