Sports Club Villa had humble beginnings in 1975, playing under the name Nakivubo Boys. The club was renamed Nakivubo Villa in 1981 and is a professional football club based in Kampala, Uganda, that competes in the Uganda Premier League.

SC Villa had won promotion to the topflight of Ugandan football in 1979 and has won 17 Uganda Super League Titles, 9 Ugandan Cup Titles and 3 CECAFA Clubs Cup Titles. Today there is no single local or regional trophy on which SC Villa's name is not inscribed, thus the most successful club in Ugandan football history. The club trains at East High Grounds in Kisaasi, Kampala.

Football is the national sport in Uganda. The Uganda national football team, nicknamed The Cranes, is the national team of Uganda and is controlled by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations. They have never qualified for the FIFA World Cup; their best finish in the African Nations Cup was second in 1978.

The 2000 CECAFA Cup was the 24th edition of the football tournament, which involves teams from Southern and Central Africa. The matches were played in Uganda, a decision which Tanzania protested, but to no avail. Tanzania were also banned from international football by FIFA, the world football governing body. The matches were played from 18 November to 2 December 2000. Prior to the tournament, Djibouti withdrew due to monetary difficulties, but re-entered. Sudan and Zanzibar also withdrew, but stayed out. The reasoning behind their withdrawal was unknown.

Daniel Nkata was the first Ugandan FIFA association football referee in 1960, writer, archivist. He was among the first Ugandans to play golf after the late Sir Daudi Chwa. He also served as secretary of Uganda Football Association which is nowadays known as FUFA. Nkata was the first indigenous Ugandan to gain formal membership of a golf club. He was secretary of the Uganda Golf Union in 1980.

The 1992 CAF Cup Final was the inaugural final of the CAF Cup, a two-legged tie to determine the first winner of the Moshood Abiola trophy. The final pitted Shooting Stars of Ibadan from Nigeria against Nakivubo Villa from Uganda. The first leg took place in Kampala, Uganda on 14 November at Nakivubo Stadium, while the second leg was held in Ibadan, Nigeria on 28 November at Liberty Stadium.
