The Men's 470 was a sailing event on the Sailing at the 2016 Summer Olympics program in Rio de Janeiro, in the 470 dinghy. It took place between 10 and 17 August at Marina da Glória. 11 races (the last one a medal race) were held. [1]

The medals were presented by Barry Maister, IOC member, New Zealand and Carlo Croce, President of World Sailing.

    The 470 (Four-Seventy) is a double-handed monohull planing dinghy with a centreboard, Bermuda rig, and centre sheeting. Equipped with a spinnaker, trapeze and a large sail-area-to-weight ratio, it is designed to plane easily, and good teamwork is necessary to sail it well. The name comes from the boat's length of 470 centimetres.

    The Men's 470 was a sailing event on the Sailing at the 2008 Summer Olympics program in Qingdao International Sailing Centre, in the 470 dinghy. Eleven races were scheduled and completed. 58 sailors, on 29 boats, from 29 nations competed. Ten boats qualified for the medal race.

    The men's 470 was a sailing event on the Sailing at the 2012 Summer Olympics program in Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, in the 470 dinghy Eleven races were scheduled and completed. 54 sailors, on 27 boats, from 27 nations competed. Crews of ten boats qualified for the medal race on course area Nothe in front of Weymouth, where each position scored double points.

    Luke Patience is a British Olympic sailor. He competed with Stuart Bithell at the 2012 Summer Olympics, and the team won a silver medal.

    Anton Carl Diderik Dahlberg is a Swedish sailor, who specializes in the 470 class, a two-person dinghy. He has represented Sweden, along with his partner Sebastian Östling, in two editions of the Olympic Games, and with Fredrik Bergström in 2016 and 2020, winning an Olympic silver in 2020. He has been representing the Royal Swedish Yacht Club throughout most of his career.

    The Women's 49er FX was a sailing event on the Sailing at the 2016 Summer Olympics program in Rio de Janeiro and took place from 12 to 18 August at Marina da Glória. Thirteen races were held.

    The men's RS:X was a sailing event on the Sailing at the 2016 Summer Olympics program in Rio de Janeiro that took place between 8–14 August at Marina da Glória. 13 races were scheduled and completed. As in the previous Olympics, the Dutch sailor Dorian van Rijsselberghe dominated and had won the gold medal before the medal race was held, as long as he competed in it. As it happened, he won the medal race as well. Britain's Nick Dempsey was likewise guaranteed the silver medal before the medal race, a medal he also won in 2012. In contrast, the race for the bronze medal was very tight, with Pierre Le Coq edging out Piotr Myszka by one position in the medal race.

    The men's Finn competition at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro took place between 9–16 August at Marina da Glória. Eleven races were held. British sailor Giles Scott was declared gold medallist before the competition ended, having an unassailable lead before the medal race.

    Carl Fredrik Bergström is a Swedish competitive sailor. He competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in the men's 470, where he, with partner Anton Dahlberg, finished in 6th place. At the 2020 Summer Olympics, he and Dahlberg won a silver medal in the men's 470.

    The 470 World Championships were held in Thessaloniki, Greece 7–15 July 2017. It was organised by the Nautical Club of Thessaloniki.

    The men's 470 class at the 2014 ISAF Sailing World Championships was held in Santander, Spain 14–20 September.

    The Laser competition at the 2020 Summer Olympics was the men's one-person dinghy event and was held in Enoshima, Japan, from 25 July to 1 August 2021. 35 sailors from 35 nations competed in 11 races, including one medal-race where points were doubled. The land venue was Enoshima Yacht Harbour and races were held on Sagami Bay.

    The Men's 470 is a sailing event on the Sailing at the 2020 Summer Olympics program in Tokyo, in the 470 dinghy that takes place between 28 July – 4 August 2021 at Enoshima Yacht Harbor. 11 races will be held. 19 teams have qualified for the event.

    The Men's 49er was a sailing event on the Sailing at the 2020 Summer Olympics program in Tokyo and took place between 27 July – 2 August.

    The Women's 470 is a sailing event on the Sailing at the 2020 Summer Olympics program in Tokyo, in the 470 dinghy that takes place between 28 July - 2 August 2021 at Enoshima Yacht Harbor. 11 races will be held. 21 teams have qualified for the event.

    The mixed Nacra 17 was a sailing event on the Sailing at the 2020 Summer Olympics program in Tokyo that took place between 28 July–3 August at Kamakura. 13 races were held.

    Xu Yuan Zhen is a Singaporean former sailor, who specialized in the two-person dinghy (470) class. A member of the Singapore Sailing Federation, Xu trained for the Games under head coach Craig Ferris.
