The Cinema of Bangladesh, also known as Bangla cinema, is a diverse and vibrant entity, consisting of films produced across various regions in Bangladesh, each contributing its unique linguistic and cultural perspective. Beyond the dominant Dhaka based Bengali-language film industry Dhallywood, which is a portmanteau of "Dhaka" and "Hollywood", Bangladesh is home to cinema in several other languages and dialects. For instance, Chakma cinema from Bandarban, Garo cinema from Sherpur, Meitei and Sylheti cinema from Sylhet, Chatgaiya cinema from Chattogram. These regional cinemas play a crucial role in preserving and promoting the linguistic and cultural heritage of the country. The dominant style of Bangladeshi cinema is melodramatic cinema, which developed from 1947 to 1990 and characterizes most films to this day. Cinema was introduced in Bangladesh in 1898 by the Bradford Bioscope Company, credited to have arranged the first film release in Bangladesh. Between 1913 and 1914, the first production company, Picture House, was opened. A 1928 short silent film titled Sukumari was the first Bengali-produced film in the region. The first full-length film, The Last Kiss, was released in 1931.

Surja Dighal Bari is a 1979 Bangladeshi feature film directed and produced by Sheikh Niamat Ali and Masihuddin Shaker. The screenplay was based on Abu Ishaque's 1955 novel of the same title. It was the first film made from the Government of Bangladesh grant. The film was first released in a theater in Natore.

Mohiuddin Faroque was a Bangladeshi art director, production designer and actor. He won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Art Direction seven times for the films Bosundhora (1977), Dumurer Phool (1978), Pita Mata Santan (1991), Padma Nadir Majhi (1992), Dukhai (1997), Meghla Akash (2001) and Obujh Bou (2010). He died on April 17, 2020.
Elora Gahar is a Bangladeshi film and television actress. She won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Child Artist for the film Surja Dighal Bari (1979).
Hasan Ahmed is a Bangladeshi Cinematographer. He won the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Cinematography three times for the films Ghorer Shotru (1994), Ghani (2006) and Gohine Shobdo (2010).
Masihuddin Shaker is a Bangladeshi film director and writer. In 1979, he won the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Director for the film Surja Dighal Bari.
Mohiuddin Ahmad is a Bangladeshi film director, writer and producer. In 1982, he won the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Director for the film Boro Bhalo Lok Chhilo and in 1991 he won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Story for the film Padma Meghna Jamuna.
