The 36th National Film Awards, presented by Ministry of Information, Bangladesh to felicitate the best of Bangladeshi Cinema released in the year 2011. The awards in the ceremony were given by then President of Bangladesh. 24 artistes and others were given the National Film Awards 2011 in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the country's film industry. [1] Guerrilla , the 2011 film on the Liberation War, won 10 awards – including best film, best director and best actress. [2]

Special Awards

Jury Board

The government had constituted a 13-member jury board with an additional secretary of the ministry of information as president and vice-chairman of Bangladesh Film Censor Board (BFSB) as member secretary for awarding the National Film Awards 2011. The jury board recommended for the award after examining eligibility to get the award in different categories by 30 September 2012. The first meeting of the jury board was held at BFSB boardroom in the capital Dhaka and Jury board president M Hafizur Rahman presided over the meeting. [7]

The National Film Awards were established in 1975 by the government of Bangladesh. Every year, a national panel appointed by the government selects the winning entries.

Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) is a biennial film festival held in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Established in 1992, the festival was initially organized on annual basis, but became a biennial event since 1995. DIFF is one of the most prestigious film events in Bangladesh, dedicated to introduce the mainstream global cinema to the local film makers as well as to promote healthy cine culture within Bangladesh. The festival was founded by Ahmed Muztaba Zamal of the Rainbow Film Society, which has, as of 2012, organized 12 editions of the event bringing international recognition to it.

Farooque Bangladeshi politician

Akbar Hossain Pathan, known by the stage name Farooque, is a Bangladeshi actor, politician, businessman, producer, member of parliament and a freedom fighter. He is known as 'Mia Bhai' to mass people. He appeared in over 150 films in a career spanning more than five decades. Most of his films were commercially and critically successful. Farooque is one of the most recognizable star of the classical and golden era of Bangladeshi film industry.

Abu Sayeed (film director)

Abu Sayeed is a Bangladeshi film director, film producer and writer. He is one of the pioneers of independent cinema in Bangladesh. As a filmmaker he has made six full-length features and two short films, some of which have received 6 national and 4 international awards.

The 35th National Film Awards, presented by Ministry of Information, Bangladesh to felicitate the best of Bangladeshi Cinema released in the year 2010. The government announced the names of 25 artistes and technicians for the National Film Award 2010 in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the country's film industry. Prime minister Sheikh Hasina handed over the 'National Film Awards – 2010' to the winners. The government has decided to observe 3 April as National Film Day from this year. The National Film Award 2010 was held at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre, Dhaka.
