The 33rd National Film Awards, presented by Ministry of Information, Bangladesh to felicitate the best of Bangladeshi Cinema released in the year 2008. The government announced the names of 24 artistes in 23 categories for the National Film Award in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the country's film industry. [1] An eleven-member Jury Board prepared a list of 15 films that could be awarded out of 17 films on January 4, 2010. [2]

Chandragrohon: The Lunar Eclipse is a Bangladeshi film based on a short story written by Indian Bengali author Syed Mustafa Siraj. The film was released 2008 and younger director Murad Parvez first time directed the film. The film features Riaz, Sohana Saba, and Champa in lead roles along with Shahiduzzaman Selim, KS Firoz, Dilara Zaman, Kohinur, Gazi Rakayet, Azom Faruk and Kazi Riton in supporting roles. In 2008, the film won three National Film Awards and including other four awards.

The 2nd Bangladesh National Film Awards was presented by Ministry of Information to felicitate the best of Bangladeshi Cinema censored in the year 1976. It was the second ceremony of National Film Awards. The Ceremony took place at Dhaka, Bangladesh on March 24, 1977, and awards were given by then President of Bangladesh. 20 films were submitted for different categories.

The 3rd Bangladesh National Film Awards were given by the Government of Bangladesh for releases in 1977. It was the third ceremony of National Film Awards. Every year, a national panel appointed by the government selects the winning entry. This year awards were given by Ziaur Rahman, the President of Bangladesh, at the Vice President's House in Dhaka on January 9, 1979.

The National Film Award 2010 was held at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre, Dhaka.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave away the awards to the artistes. From this year, Government decided to give lifetime achievement award and Sultana Zaman was the first recipient of the award.

Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Art Director is the highest award for art directors in Bangladesh.

The Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Editing is one of the highest film awards in Bangladesh. Since 1977, the awards are given in the category of best Editing. The first award winner was Bashir Hossain. Mujibur Rahman Dulu was awarded 8 times and Aminul Islam Mintu was awarded 4 times.

Zahir Uddin Piar is a Bangladeshi film actor. He won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Performance in a Negative Role for the film Chandragrohon (2003)
