National Film Awards (Nepal)

The National Film Awards is the most prominent and prestigious award of Nepali cinema. The first National Film Award was held in 2005, in the presence of His Majesty's King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah. The event is held at the residence of the president of Nepal and the president (as a Head of Nation) gives the awards to the winners in various categories. It is yearly organised by Film Development Board, Nepal (government organisation, which looks after film industry of Nepal). [1] [2]

National Film Awards 2005 (2062 BS)

The Film Development Board of Nepal organized the National Film Awards 2005 at Birendra International Convention Center, Kathmandu, Nepal. The award's nomination was declared in the presence of His Majesty's Queen Komal Rajya Laxmi Devi Shah.

The Film Development Board of Nepal organized the National Film Awards 2006 in Rastriya Nach Ghar, Kantipath, Kathmandu. on 16th Asadh 2067, on the occasion of Anniversary Day of Film Development Board, Nepal.

National Film Awards 2008 (2065 BS)

The National Film Award 2008 (2065) was distributed on 1 July 2008. The awards were handed over by the then prime minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda) with legendary Indian actor Mala Sinha. The award was organized by the Film Development Board of Nepal. Janayudha was chosen as the best film and Ujwal Ghimire was awarded as best film director of the year for his film Kismat. [3]

The Film Development Board of Nepal organized the National Film Awards 2010 after a gap of three years at Rashtriya Naachghar, Kathmandu. [4]

National Film Awards 2011 (2068 BS)

The Film Development Board of Nepal organized the National Film Awards 2011 at Shital Niwas, Kathmandu, where President Ram Baran Yadav presented the awards. Ujwal Ghimire won the best director national award 2011 for his film Andaj. Tara Bahadur Thapa (Kimvhey) won the best Editor National Film Award 2011 for his film "Desh". Yash Kumar won the best National playback singer Award 2011 from the movie Bato Muniko Phool

The Film Development Board of Nepal organized the National Film Awards 2015 at Shital Niwas, Kathmandu, where President Ram Baran Yadav presented the awards. [10]

Winners of the awards:

Out of the 87 films released in 2014 (2071 BS), 60 were considered for award nomination. The jury members were Karishma Manandhar, Rajendra Shalav, Kapil Parajuli, Hemanta Budhathoki and Dipendra Lama. [11]

The Film Development Board of Nepal organized the National Film Awards 2016 at Shital Niwas, Kathmandu. President Bidhya Devi Bhandari presented the awards.

The decisions for the awards were made by a committee led by Ramesh Budhathoki. The members of the committee were Laya Sangarula, Sarita Lamichhane, Mohan Niraula, Sushil Poudel and Karun Thapa. The films and winners were selected from the films released in the year 2015 (2072 BS). [12] [13] [14]

He also contributed in making the first television film in the history of television industry of Nepal in 1985.

Surke Thaili Khai or Surke Thaili is a Nepalese song by Rajan Raj Shiwakoti, Anju Panta, Raju Biswokarma, released on August 6, 2015. It was a single from soundtrack album Woda Number 6 (2015). The song was produced by Deepak Raj Giri, Kedar Ghimire, Deepa Shree Niraula and Jeetu Nepal. It is the second most viewed Nepalese song in YouTube currently viewing over 24 million. In the music video of the track features actors including Deepak Raj Giri, Priyanka Karki, Dipa Shree Niraula, Kedar Ghimire, Sitaram Kattel and Dayahang Rai.

"Melancholy" is an environmentally-themed song sung by 365 Nepali artists. This song was intended to promote an environmental message by breaking the Guinness World Records for "Most Vocal Solos in a Song Recording", which it successfully did. It was written, music composed and directed by environmentalist Nipesh Dhaka. The song was recorded as a single on 19 May 2016. The recording sessions were inaugurated by Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Oli at 8 am and continued until 6 pm. The song was released on 2 September 2017 by President Bidya Devi Bhandari at Army Officer's Club, Kathmandu.

Surakshya Panta is a Nepalese actress, creative director and producer. She debuted as an actress from Alok Nembang's 2015 Ajhai Pani in a supporting role. Panta rose to fame after her role in Dhanapati. She has also worked in critically acclaimed films like Gopi and Aama. Chhulthim Dolma Gurung(born 8 September 1986) is a Nepalese actress who works in Nepali films. She ventured into acting in The movie ‘November Rain ’ as A character "Dalli" which was released on April 24, 2014. For the former film, she won NFDC National Film Awards 2015, 8th NEFTA Film Awards in 2015 And Dcine Awards 2015 in the category of 'The Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Female)'.

Woda Number 6 is a 2015 Nepali film directed by Ujwal Ghimire. The film features an ensemble cast including Kedar Ghimire, Dayahang Rai, Deepa Shree Niraula, Deepak Raj Giri, Priyanka Karki, Jeetu Nepal, Sitaram Kattel, Neer Shah, Buddhi Tamang, Wilson Bikram Rai, and Shivahari Poudel in the lead roles.

Jaari is a 2023 Nepali film written and directed by Upendra Subba under the banner of Baasuri Films. It is produced by Ram Babu Gurung. Released on April 14, 2023, the film stars Dayahang Rai, Miruna Magar, Prem Subba, Bijay Baral, Roydeep Shrestha, and Rekha Limbu. The film is based on Limbu community and their Jaari tradition, which was historically one of the most significant part of their culture; the Jaari tradition was also relevant in many other communities of Nepal.
