Surya Kumar Neupane (born 1987) known professionally as Uttam Neupane, [2] is a Nepali sound mixer. [3] He is the recipient of the 5th National Film Award of Nepal for Best Sound mixing for the feature film Mero Euta Saathi Chha . [4] Two films he did sound-mixing for, Bulbul [5] and Talakjung vs Tulke, [6] were Nepal's official entries for the 92nd and 88th Academy Awards respectively.

Career

Neupane worked on the short film Dadyaa , [7] which was nominated for Short Film Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival [8] and won a Special Jury Award. [9] He also worked with CNN journalist Benjamin Best on his documentary film Dirty Games. [10] It won Feature Documentary Award of Recognition at the Hollywood international independent documentary awards [11] [12] in 2016, Best Documentary at Snowdance Independent Film Festival, [13] [14] [15] New York festivals. Neupane also worked on Talakjung vs Tulke directed by Nischal Basnet, which was chosen as Nepal’s Official entry in best foreign language film category at the 88th Academy Awards. [17] Neupane and Basnet have also collaborated on Loot (2012 film) and Loot 2.[ citation needed ] He is also known for his work [18] on Bulbul (2019) [19] directed by Binod Poudel, which was selected as the Nepalese entry for Best International Feature Film [5] at the 92nd Academy Awards, and won Special Jury Award at the 9th SAARC Film Festival. Neupane mixed sound on the first Nepali science fiction movie [22] Bijuli Machine in 2016, directed by Navin Awal. Bijuli Machine was selected as an opening film at the 2017 Tasveer South Asian Film Festival, [23] [24] Seattle and won the best narrative film that year. It also screened at Singapore South Asian International Film Festival and was selected for the Chicago South Asian Film Festival. [25]

Loot is a 2012 Nepali crime thriller film that was directed and written by Nischal Basnet as his debut. The film received critical acclaim with praise directed towards the performances of the cast, the screenplay, twists, climax and the direction of Nischal Basnet. The film, and especially Saugat Malla's character Haku Kale, developed a cult following in Nepali cinema. With an estimated budget of 5,000,000 to 7,000,000 Nepalese rupees (NPR), Loot grossed 52 million NPR at the box office and went on to become the highest grossing Nepali movie of all time, breaking several records at the box office. It is credited for bringing realism to Nepali cinema rather than focusing on larger than life routine masala Nepali film and brought a new wave of Cinema in Nepal. The film is also credited for reviving the box office in Nepal, attracting Nepali youth audience who at that time were attracted to Hollywood and Bollywood cinema moreso than routine Nepali cinema. Kabaddi is a 2014 Nepali romantic drama film written and directed by Ram Babu Gurung. It portrays the story of a love triangle among three central characters. The film was produced by Raunak Bikram Kandel, Nischal Basnet and Sunil Rauniyar and starred Nischal Basnet, Dayahang Rai, Rishma Gurung, Rajan Khatiwada and Darshan Silwal. The film was released on April 25, 2014 with extremely positive review from critics and audience for its rawness, screenplay, performances and direction. It became a blockbuster at the box office and remains a cult classic film of Nepali cinema. The film is also considered as a landmark in film in modern Nepali cinema. The film had two sequels, Kabaddi Kabaddi was released in November 2015 which also became huge success critically and commercially. Its third part Kabaddi Kabaddi Kabaddi was released on 20 September 2019 and became the highest grossing film of the franchise and one of the highest grossing films ever in Nepal. Now, Its forth part Kabaddi 4: The Final Match has hit to the theatres on 27 May 2022 and has broken all records of Nepali Cinema till now.
