Samantha Shirley (born May 2, 1983) is a former women's ice hockey player and member of the Canada women's national inline hockey team, appearing at eight FIRS Inline Hockey World Championships.
Shirley joined the Mercyhurst Lakers women's ice hockey program in the autumn of 2002. Tying for the team lead in the 2002–03 Mercyhurst Lakers women's ice hockey season, Shirley captured the College Hockey America Rookie of the Year Award. Serving as team captain for the 2005–06 Mercyhurst Lakers women's ice hockey season, gracing the ice in all 37 games. Her 11 goals ranked fourth while her 26 points ranked fifth on the Lakers. Of her 11 goals, three were game winners. [1]
Following Mercyhurst, Shirley turned professional, joining the Switzerland women's ice hockey league EV Zug Damen for their 2006–07 season. The following season, she would join the Vaughan Flames of the newly formed Canadian Women's Hockey League. Of note, she would spend the last two seasons of her CWHL career competing for the Burlington Barracudas. Shirley appeared in 121 regular season games in CWHL play. [2]
On November 18, 2011, Shirley was one of several Burlington Barracudas players (including Christina Kessler, Shannon Moulson, Ashley Stephenson, Jana Harrigan, Amanda Shaw, Annina Rajahuhta, Amanda Parkins, and Lindsay Vine) that competed in the first ever Hockey Helps the Homeless Women's Tournament. Said tournament was held at the Magna Centre in Newmarket, Ontario. [3]
Debuting with the national team in 2005, Shirley captured her first gold medal at the FIRS Inline Hockey World Championships.
Versus host Italy at the 2009 FIRS Worlds, Shirley scored a pair of goals in a 6-0 Canadian victory, clinching a semi-final berth. [4]
Earlier in the tournament, Shirley registered a goal and two assists in a convincing 13–2 rout of Australia. A Canada Day 2009 contest versus Team Finland resulted in a 15–3 victory, as Shirley scored twice.
At the 2010 FIRS Worlds, it marked Shirley's fifth consecutive appearance with the Canadian contingent. [5]

Meghan Christina Agosta is a Canadian women's ice hockey forward, who last played for the Montreal Stars of the Canadian Women's Hockey League. Agosta plays for the Canada women's national ice hockey team and is a gold (3) and silver medallist at the Winter Olympics of 2006 Turin, 2010 Vancouver, 2014 Sochi, and 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. At the 2010 Winter Olympics, Agosta was named MVP of the Women's Hockey Tournament. She is a multi-medallist at the Women's World Championships with two gold medals and six silvers.
The 2009–10 Mercyhurst Lakers women's ice hockey team represented Mercyhurst College in the 2009–10 NCAA Division I women's ice hockey season. The Lakers were coached by Michael Sisti. Assisting Sisti are Paul Colontino and Louis Goulet. Mike Folga was the Head Equipment Manager. The Lakers will attempt to qualify for the NCAA Women's Frozen Four for the second consecutive season. Vicki Bendus, Bailey Bram and Jesse Scanzano were all Top-10 finalists for the Patty Kazmaier Award. This marked only the third time in NCAA history that one school had three nominees in the Top 10. Bendus was honoured with the award.
The 2007–08 Mercyhurst Lakers women's ice hockey team represented Mercyhurst College in the 2007–08 NCAA Division I women's ice hockey season. The Lakers were coached by Michael Sisti and had a 9-2-1 conference record. Assisting Sisti was Paul Colontino and Louis Goulet. Mike Folga was the Head Equipment Manager. Mercyhurst featured eight newcomers in 2007-2008 as the Lakers lost 10 players from the 2006–2007, 32-win team. Seven of those players were lost to graduation.
The 2006–07 Mercyhurst Lakers women's ice hockey team represented Mercyhurst College in the 2006–07 NCAA Division I women's ice hockey season. The Lakers were coached by Michael Sisti and went 11-0-1 in their conference. Mercyhurst had the second-best scoring defense in Division I in 2006-2007. It would be the rookie season of Meghan Agosta. She was the first freshman ever to be in the Final 3 for the Patty Kazmaier Award. No other freshman had made it that far in voting.
The Mercyhurst Lakers women's ice hockey team is a college ice hockey program representing Mercyhurst University in NCAA Division I competition as a member of the College Hockey America (CHA) conference. They play in Erie, Pennsylvania at the Mercyhurst Ice Center, located on the Mercyhurst campus.
Jesse Scanzano is a Canadian retired ice hockey forward. She was selected fifth overall in the 2011 CWHL Draft. Mercyhurst's Jesse Scanzano was a three-time All-College Hockey America selection and a member of the CHA All-Rookie Team in 2007-08. She ranks No. 2 in career points (225) in CHA history. In her Junior year with Mercyhurst, Scanzano led the NCAA in points with 65. Scanzano played for the 2011–12 Canada women's national ice hockey team and appeared in the 2011 4 Nations Cup.
Vicki Bendus is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who last played for the Brampton Thunder of the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL). While playing collegiate hockey with the Mercyhurst Lakers, she won the 2010 Patty Kazmaier Award, awarded to the top player in women's NCAA hockey. She was also selected for the Canadian national women's team that will compete in the 2010 Four Nations Cup. Bendus was the leading scorer at the 2011 MLP Cup.

The Mercyhurst Lakers women's ice hockey team represented Mercyhurst College. The Lakers played in the first season of College Hockey America and CJ Ireland was team captain. In the Lakers first CHA season, the Lakers were 25-8-1. During the regular season, the Lakers finished first in the CHA. The Lakers would proceed to win the conference's playoffs, and finish the year ranked 10th in the national polls. Mercyhurst won the regular-season CHA title with a conference record of 6 wins and 0 losses. In the 6 conference games, the Lakers outscored its opposition by a 26-9 mark.
The Mercyhurst Lakers represented Mercyhurst College in the 2010–11 NCAA Division I women's ice hockey season. The Frozen Four was hosted by Mercyhurst College at Louis J. Tullio Arena in Erie, Pennsylvania.
The 2011–12 CWHL season was the fifth in league history. Regular season play begun on October 22, 2011, as the defending champion Montreal Stars host the Brampton Thunder. The league expanded from five teams to six as Team Alberta (CWHL) joined the league for competitive play. The 2012 Clarkson Cup in Niagara Falls was also contested between the Stars and Thunder, with Montreal winning its second consecutive title.
Sommer West was a Canadian Olympic softball player at the 2000 Summer Olympics. In addition, she was a former member of the Canadian national women's hockey team. She was also an ice hockey player in the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL). West has competed for the Mississauga Chiefs and Burlington Barracudas in the CWHL. Currently, she is the head coach of the Toronto Furies of the Canadian Women's Hockey League. As head coach of the Toronto Furies, she led the squad to the 2014 Clarkson Cup championship.
The Mercyhurst Lakers women's hockey team will represent Mercyhurst College in the 2011–12 NCAA Division I women's ice hockey season. The Lakers were coached by Michael Sisti and won the regular season College Hockey America championship. During the season, the Lakers only carried 17 skaters, but the club won its 12th consecutive regular season title. In addition, the squad qualified for the NCAA tournament for the eighth consecutive season, an NCAA Division I women's hockey record. The Lakers finished 22-8-3 overall, and were defeated by top-seed Wisconsin, 3-1, in the NCAA quarterfinals.
Christine Bestland is a Canadian ice hockey player in the Mercyhurst Lakers women's ice hockey program. Prior to Mercyurst, Bestland was involved with Hockey Canada's Program of Excellence.
Bailey Bram Mitchell is a Canadian retired ice hockey player. As a member of Team Canada, she won a silver medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics and five IIHF Women's World Championship medals, one gold and four silver, from 2012 to 2017.
Alyssa Baldin is an elite women's ice hockey player who has also competed for the Canada women's national inline hockey team. With regards to Baldin's women's ice hockey career, she has competed at the university level in both the NCAA and CIS. Acquired by the Toronto Furies in the 2013 CWHL Draft, she would capture the Clarkson Cup in 2014.
Michelle Bonello is a women's ice hockey player who has also competed for the Canada women's national inline hockey team, having participated at seven FIRS Inline Hockey World Championships With regards to Bonello's women's ice hockey career, she has competed at the university level with the Mercyhurst Lakers women's ice hockey program in the NCAA. Acquired by the Toronto Furies in the 2010 CWHL Draft, the first in league history, she would capture the Clarkson Cup in 2014.
Kristen Richards is a Canadian professional ice hockey player. She is currently a member of the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association (PWHPA), following four seasons with the Markham Thunder of the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL). Prior to that, she played NCAA Division I hockey for Niagara and Robert Morris.
Jackie Jarrell is a former women's ice hockey player and current member of the Canada women's national inline hockey team, having debuted in 2006.
