Samayal Samayal with Venkatesh Bhat is a 2014-2018 Tamil language Indian television series featuring chef Venkatesh Bhat cooking 100 of his top recipes, that everyday-cooks and viewers can try. The program focuses on what have been described by Times of India as "exciting recipes, especially South Indian" cuisine. [1]

The show premiered on 30 August 2014 and 30 June 2018 for 190 episodes, airs on Vijay TV every Saturday at 2pm, [2] with repeat episodes sometimes aired at varying times. [3] As of 2016, the show has completed 100 episodes. [4]

Show format

The show features Venkatesh Bhat sharing his experience and knowledge with cooking techniques, and demonstrating 100 hand picked recipes from his cook book. [5] The show also features various celebrities, including stars from other Vijay TV television programs such as Saravanan Meenatchi . [5] Cook With Comali

The format of the show changed from the earlier version of the show entitled Samayal Samayal, which aired on Vijay TV in 2001 for half an hour on Sundays at 1pm. [6] The format of that version featured both Sharmila and Venkatesh Bhat, and filming was before a live audience who participated in the show. [6]

Chef Bhat

The presenter of the show, Venkatesh Bhat, is both a chef and CEO. [7] He comes from the Udupi-Mangalore belt. [7] Notwithstanding Bhat being a strict vegetarian, [7] Bhat is also proficient at non-vegetarian cooking. [7]

Bhat studied catering at Asan Memorial, and obtained a graduate degree from Cornell University and majored in general management in his studies at National University of Singapore, Singapore. [7] Bhat initially worked in the kitchens of Hotel Chola Sheraton in 1994. [7] Two years later, he moved to Taj Coromandel as a management trainee in hotel operations and kitchen management before being promoted to the position of sous chef in 1998. [7] In 2001, Bhat joined Leela Palace in Bangaluru as an executive sous chef and was promoted to corporate chef by 2004. [7] Bhat quit corporate life in 2007 to become an entrepreneur, before launching several brands and restaurants including South Indies, Up South, and Bon South. [7]

Bhat later joined Accord Metropolitan, as well as Accord Puducherry, and Highland Hotel in Ooty. [7] During the daytime, he is a CEO of the hotels. [7] During the evenings, he is a chef, and focuses on the hotel's Royal Indianaa restaurant which serves South Indian cuisine, as well as the hotel's other eateries including Pergola, the Zodiac Bar and the brick oven. In 2019, with Chef Damodharan, he judges Cooku with Comali. [7]

Damodharan K., professionally known as Chef Damu, is an Indian celebrity chef. He has hosted numerous cooking shows and reality cooking competitions on various Tamil language television channels, most notably as a judge on Cooku with Comali on Star Vijay. Cooku with Comali, also known by the acronym CWC, is an Indian Tamil-language comedy-based cooking competition show aired on Star Vijay and streams on Disney+ Hotstar where the contestants are paired each week with comedians (comalis) who are amateur cooks. The first season premiered on 16 November 2019 and ended on 23 February 2020. The second season was premiered on 14 November 2020 and ended on 14 April 2021. The third season was premiered on 22 January 2022 and ended on 24 July 2022. The fourth season was premiered on 28 January 2023 and ended on 30 July 2023. The contestants along with their comalis are challenged every week and judged by Chef Damu and Chef Venkatesh Bhat.

The show was originally supposed to be aired in May 2021; however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic in India, the show was pushed back to 7 August 2021. Cookku with Kirikku is a Kannada-language comedy-based cooking competition show aired on Star Suvarna and streams on Disney+ Hotstar where the contestants are paired each week with comedians (Kirikkus) who are amateur cooks. It premiered on 10 April 2021. The contestants along with their kirikkus are challenged every week and judged by Sihi Kahi Chandru, Chef Venkatesh Bhat and Chef Adarsh. Cooku with Comali is the third season of the Tamil reality cooking TV show Cooku with Comali, that was launched on 22 January 2022. This season is hosted by Rakshan, and judged by Chef Damodharan and Chef Venkatesh Bhat.

Cooku with Comali is the fourth season of the Tamil-language reality cooking TV show Cooku with Comali, that launched on 28 January 2023 on Star Vijay. Over four years, Cooku with Comali has rolled out three seasons and Rakshan has officially once again been appointed as the host for the fourth time. Chef Damodharan and Chef Venkatesh Bhat as the Judges. Actor Suresh appeared as a guest judge in lieu of Chef Venkatesh Bhatt's absence. Manimegalai has re-joined as the co-host. Mime Gopi won the title on 30th July 2023.
