Sambo , for the 2013 World Combat Games, took place at the Spartak Sport Complex in Saint Petersburg, Russia, on the 18 and 19 October 2013. [1]

Sambo (martial art) martial art sports

Sambo is a Russian martial art and combat sport. It originated in the Russian SFSR in Soviet Union. The word "SAMBO" is a portmanteau for samozashchita bez oruzhiya, which literally translates as "self-defence without weapons". Sambo is relatively modern, since its development began in the early 1920s by the Soviet Red Army to improve their hand-to-hand combat abilities. It was intended to be a merger of the most effective techniques of other martial arts.

The 2013 World Combat Games was held in St. Petersburg, Russia, from October 18 to 26, 2013.

Submission wrestling

Submission wrestling or combat wrestling, is a form of competition and a general term for martial arts and combat sports that focus on clinch and ground fighting with the aim of obtaining a submission through the use of submission holds. Russian martial arts

There are a number of martial arts styles and schools of Russian origin. Traditional Russian fist fighting has existed since the 1st millennium AD. It was outlawed in the Russian Empire in 1832. However, it has seen a resurgence after the break-up of the Soviet Union.

Combat sport sport

A combat sport, or fighting sport, is a competitive contact sport that usually involves one-on-one combat. In many combat sports, a contestant wins by scoring more points than the opponent or by disabling the opponent. Common combat sports include mixed martial arts, boxing, wrestling, fencing, savate, kickboxing, Muay Thai, Sanda, Tae Kwon Do, Capoeira, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, HMB, Sambo, Kyokushin, and Kūdō, sometimes even Ninjutsu.

Igor Yakimov is a World Masters Judo champion, as well as a World Masters sport sambo champion and a medallist at the Combat Sambo world championships. He is the author of the Russian Judo video series and for his Sambo Leglocks video series.

2013 Summer Universiade

The 2013 Summer Universiade, officially known as the XXVII Summer Universiade, was held in the city of Kazan (Russia), the most northerly city ever to host a Summer Universiade. Over 10,400 university athletes from 162 countries participated in 13 mandatory and 14 optional sports, making the 2013 Universiade the biggest ever in the history of the event. For the first time in history a Cultural Universiade was also included, with many festivals and shows held simultaneously with the sporting events. The Universiade was organized by the International University Sports Federation (FISU) and by the authorities of the Republic of Tatarstan.

Kirill Yurievich Sidelnikov born August 17, 1988, is a Russian professional mixed martial artist currently competing in the Heavyweight division of Bellator. A professional competitor since 2007, he has also competed for Fight Nights Global, M-1 Global, Affliction, and RIZIN.

The 2008 World Sambo Championships was held in St. Petersburg, Russia on 13 to 17 of November, 2008. This tournament included competition in both sport Sambo, and Combat Sambo.

Viktor Aleksandrovich Nemkov is a Russian-Kazakh sambist, judoka competitor and mixed martial artist. Nemkov won the 2011 World Sambo Championships in Combat Sambo Events. According to the global-mma.com rankings, he is the number 10 ranked Light Heavyweight in the world outside of the UFC.

Vyacheslav Vasilevsky Russian mixed martial arts fighter

Vyacheslav "Crushin Russian" Vasilevsky is a Russian mixed martial artist who competes in the middleweight division. A professional MMA competitor since 2008, Vasilevsky has amassed a 31–6 professional record. He is the inaugural M-1 Global Light Heavyweight World Champion.

The World Combat Games are an international multi-sport event featuring combat sports and martial arts. Khabib Abdulmanapovich Nurmagomedov is a Russian professional mixed martial artist of Avar ethnicity. Nurmagomedov is a two-time Combat Sambo World Champion and the reigning undisputed UFC Lightweight Champion. He currently holds the longest undefeated streak in MMA, with 27 wins, and remains undefeated in professional MMA. Hailing from Russia's Dagestan region, he is the first Russian and the first Muslim to win a UFC title. Islam Ramazanovich Makhachev is a Russian mixed martial artist, judoka and sambo competitor of Lak origin. He is a Combat Sambo World Champion, and competes in the lightweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He trains with AKA before his fights, usually accompanied with Khabib Nurmagomedov and the rest of his fight team.

The World Sambo Championships are the main championships in Sambo and Combat Sambo, organized by the Fédération Internationale de Sambo (FIAS).

The 2013 World Sambo Championships was held in Saint Petersberg, Russia between the 21 and 25 November 2013. This tournament included competition in both Sambo, and Combat Sambo.
