Sandra Nankoma, previously known as Sandy Soul, is a Ugandan recording artist, singer-songwriter, composer, actor and performer of Afro-soul and jazz music . [2] She is well known for her single Kaddugala from her debut album Ye'nze for which she won an award for Best Female Artist in African Inspirational Music at AFRIMA Awards in 2018 . [3] [4] [5]
Nankoma started performing music professionally in 2013. She performed at the Bayimba Festival of the Arts, following her collaboration with Sylvester Kabombo on hip hop song, "Fumbiro". After her first single, Season she has since recorded a number of other songs, including: Kaddugala, MusaizaWei'ka, Babylon, and Mercedes (featured on RNW ‘s My Song program on YouTube [6] ).
Sandra Nankoma toured Uganda and performed at many festivals including the Bayimba Festival of the Arts [7] Milege World Music Festival organized by Milege, Pearl Rhythm Festival, World Music Day celebrations. [8]
In 2014, Nankoma formed a band, performing as Sandy Soul. As Sandy Soul, Nankoma toured Africa, performing in cities including Nairobi, Arusha, Abidjan, Kigali and making a one-off appearance in Paris. In 2016, she performed at the MASA Arts Festival in Ivory Coast, as a part of Afroman Spice, a Female theatre company she co-founded. Afroman Spice campaign for social change, with a focus on feminism and women's issues. Later that year she performed at Ubumuntu Festival and at the Kigali Up Festival as Sandy Soul.
In 2017 Nankoma took up a music residence in Nairobi called the Soul Train. Here she collaborated with a number of East, West and South African artists including Jojo Abot (Ghana), Blinky Bill (Kenya), Jackie Manyelope, Prisca Ojwang and DJ Kampire. Sandra Nankoma was also an award winner at Visa Pour La Creation, an awards ceremony for African and Caribbean Artists.
In 2018, she released her debut studio album, Ye'nze which was mastered and released in both Uganda and France. Kaddugala (which translates to Melanin), released as an anthem to dark skinned girls and a strong statement against bleaching, was nominated in the 2018 AFRIMAS 'All Africa Music Awards' AFRIMA 2018. Ye'nze also won Nankoma an AFRIMA award for 'Best Female Artist in African Inspirational Music'. Nankoma began touring Ye'nze in 2018. [9] [10]
Nankoma has also performed in numerous theatre plays and musicals. She was a founding member of Afroman Spice, a feminist drama group, along with Rashida Namulondo and Linda Nabasa. Together the group performed plays, musicals and poetry about social issues affecting Uganda and Africa at large. [11] Nankoma's band Sandy Soul has performed with the group in Uganda, Kenya and Ivory Coast. [12]
Sandra Nakoma was born and brought up in the Mukono district of central Uganda. Because of her dark skin, she was bullied in school and has since campaigned against racism - including with her song Kaddugala, an anthem for all black women facing racial discrimination. [13] Nankoma is an alumna of Uganda Christian University, Mukono, where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in Industrial Fine Art and Design, with a major in sculpture.
Bebe Cool is an African reggae and ragga musician from Uganda. He started his career around 1997 in Nairobi, Kenya, but moved back to his native country a few years later. Bebe Cool was one of the first artists affiliated with Ogopa DJs, a production house and record label in Kenya.
Mani Martin is a Rwandan singer, songwriter, actor and performing artist. He has won numerous awards. His unique musical sound that reflects the Afro-fusion, urban and traditional sounds has received National & international attention hence being described by "Rwanda Spectrum Magazine" as one of the best live music performing artists of the Rwandan music scene. Mani sings in Kinyarwanda, Kiswahili, English and French.

St. Nelly-Sade, born Nsubuga Nelson, is a Ugandan Lugaflow rapper. He has performed on national and international stages including Bayimba International Festival of the Arts, LaBa! Arts Festival, Uganda Hip Hop Summit, as well as performances in South Sudan, Arusha, Tanzania and in various regions all over east Africa. Nelly-sade has contributed to many projects such as The Hip Hop Canvas album 2009 and 2010, Voices Initiative Uganda, WAPI, Open Mic Night Kampala, End of the Weak Uganda, Spoken Truth and Mic Stand Hip Hop night, which he started in 2011. He was Co-coordinator for the End of the Weak International Hip Hop Festival held in Kampala in 2014.
Undercover Brothers Ug also simply known as Undercover Brothers are a Ugandan music duo composed of guitarist and vocalist Jay K Mulungi and vocalist Timothy Kirya, whose music career sparked off when they won the auditions and represented Uganda in the sixth season of East Africa's biggest singing competition Tusker Project Fame. The duo released their first album titled At Dawn in December 2014. In December 2016, their song Nsikatila was nominated in the Best R&B Song category at HiPipo Music Awards (#HMA) 2017.
Jemimah Sanyu, also known as the Stage Gladiator, is a Ugandan musician, performer, producer, and voice coach. She has a commanding stage presence with a very strong voice. Sanyu has met people like President Yoweri Museveni while singing at the I am a Ugandan album premier. She has shared a stage with top African stars like Habib Koite, Navio, Joanita Kawalya of Afrigo Band, and Juliana Kanyomozi. and many other African stars.
Milege Afrojazz Band, commonly known as Milege, is a world music band from Uganda, made up of young talented musicians from Uganda whose enthusiasm is derived from the diverse cultural music traditions of the different tribes of Uganda into which they fuse contemporary elements to express the likeness of Uganda's people in a more current context. As of 2015 Milege's members are; guitarist Manana F. Birabi, vocalist Joanita Katushabe, lead vocalist Gloria Akugizibwe, bassist Paul Owembabazi and violinist Alison Nadunga as a seasoned member.
Giovanni Kiyingi, is a Ugandan folk singer-songwriter and world music artist. He is known for his skills as a multi-instrumentalist who plays the local Ugandan fiddle (endingidi), akogo, adungu, guitar, harmonica, flute, djembe, calabash, congas, drums, and maracas, among others. He was one of the Ugandan artists chosen to welcome Pope Francis to Uganda at Kololo on 27 November 2015.
Suzan Kerunen is a Ugandan world music singer and songwriter who performs African contemporary music in the local Ugandan language of Alur-Jonam as well as in English, Swahili and other world languages. She is a double Kora Award nominee who competed against Ethiopia's Michaih Behaylu, Astar and Bluz and Kenyan Wahu and a PAM Award winner. She was appointed Uganda National Tourism Ambassador to promote Cultural Tourism. Kerunen has shared stages with Africa's best artists and musicians including Kenya's Suzanna Owíyo, South Africa's Yvonne Chaka Chaka, ASA and other Diaspora artists at the KORA ALL AFRICAN MUSIC AWARDS in Benin, Mama Africa Miriam Makeba, Oliver Mutukudzi, Third World, Kinobe Herbert backed up by Soul Beat Africa at The International Jazz Festival.
Nsikatila, sometimes spelt Nsikatira, is a world-pop love song by Ugandan music duo Undercover Brothers Ug. It was released as the second single from their first EP album and first major release, At Dawn in December (2014) and re-released in January as the first single from their 2016 album, Hitlist. Co-written by the duo's Timothy Kirya and Jay K Mulungi and produced by Jude Mugerwa, the lyrics portray a lover who stammers whenever he talks to his lover.

The Milege World Music Festival or just Milege Festival is an annual music festival, happening every November, organized by Milege Afrojazz Band. The festival is a celebration of world music, games, cultural dances, stories, poems, and so on. Art pieces from the Repainting Uganda project are also displayed and sold during the festival. The festival invites many different world music stars from across Africa and sometimes from Asia, Europe, and America. The Milege World Music Festival of 2014 saw Japanese world star and world's first female nyatiti player Anyango perform.
