Sarah Sumner is a Christian egalitarian [1] theologian based in the US.

Sumner is known for her articles and books on Christian women in leadership, godly anger, leadership, seminary education, [2] and marriage. Sumner serves as the President of Right On Mission. [3]

Regarding the debate on women in the church, Sumner is an evangelical theologian. [4] who is working to build consensus in Christian Leadership. [5] [6] Sumner does not advocate for the ordination of women in Protestant churches. [7]

Education and career

Sumner graduated with a Bachelor of Education from Baylor University, a Master of Theology from Wheaton College, and a Master of Business Administration from Azusa Pacific University. She graduated from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School with a Ph.D. in systematic theology, and was the first woman to do so. [8]

Sumner started her career as a National Sales Representative for InterVarsity Press. Following this, she joined the staff at Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, Illinois, as an evangelist.

Sumner served as a core teaching pastor at New Song Church in San Dimas, California. [9]

Sumner then became an associate professor of ministry and theology at Azusa Pacific. She went on to become chair of the graduate ministry department at APU. It was at this time that she published her first book book. [10]

She has also taught as an adjunct professor at Trinity Law School in Santa Ana, California. [11] In May 2011, Sumner was Trinity's Commencement Speaker for the Class of 2011. [12]

Sumner served as dean of A.W. Tozer Theological Seminary at Simpson University in Redding, California from 2010 to 2012. [13]

In 2012, Sumner became President of ‘’Right On Mission’’, a position she has held for over 10 years. The mission’s vision is “to see all Christians faithfully live “on mission” instead of veering “off mission.” ”. It sees itself as an educational entity, and offers ways to support Christians to “learn to think so Christianly that they find the moral courage to act with integrity as Christ followers, even in the face of opposition”. Its 2017 "Nashville Statement" was criticized by egalitarian Christians and LGBT campaigners, as well as by several conservative religious figures.

Craig L. Blomberg is an American New Testament scholar. He is currently the Distinguished Professor Emeritus of the New Testament at Denver Seminary in Colorado where he has been since 1986. His area of academic expertise is the New Testament,including subjects relating to parables, miracles, the historical Jesus, Luke-Acts, John, 1 Corinthians, James, the historical trustworthiness of Scripture, financial stewardship, gender roles, the Latter Day Saint movement, hermeneutics, New Testament theology, and exegetical methods. Blomberg has written and edited multiple books.

Darrell L. Bock is an American evangelical New Testament scholar. He is executive director of Cultural Engagement at The Hendricks Center and Senior Research Professor of New Testament studies at Dallas Theological Seminary (DTS) in Dallas, Texas, United States. Bock received his PhD from Scotland's University of Aberdeen. His supervisor was I. Howard Marshall. Harold Hoehner was an influence in his NT development, as were Martin Hengel and Otto Betz as he was a Humboldt scholar at Tübingen University multiple years.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Complementarianism</span> Theological view on gender roles

Complementarianism is a theological view in some denominations of Christianity, Rabbinic Judaism, and Islam, that men and women have different but complementary roles and responsibilities in marriage, family life, and religious leadership. Complementary and its cognates are currently used to denote this view. Some Christians interpret the Bible as prescribing complementarianism, and therefore adhere to gender-specific roles that preclude women from specific functions of ministry within the community. Though women may be precluded from certain roles and ministries, they are held to be equal in moral value and of equal status. The phrase used to describe this is "ontologically equal, functionally different".

Derek John Tidball is a British theologian, sociologist of religion, and Baptist minister. From 1995 to 2007 he was the principal of London Bible College which later took the name London School of Theology.

He was the principal of All Nations Christian College. He is an honorary member of All Souls Church, Langham Place in London, UK.

Grant R. Osborne was an American theologian and New Testament scholar. He was Professor of New Testament at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.

Gregory Kimball Beale is a biblical scholar, currently a Professor of New Testament and Biblical Theology at Reformed Theological Seminary in Dallas, Texas. He is an ordained minister in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. He has made a number of contributions to conservative biblical hermeneutics, particularly in the area of the use of the Old Testament in the New Testament and is one of the most influential and prolific active New Testament scholars in the world. He served as the president of the Evangelical Theological Society in 2004. In 2013, he was elected by Westminster Theological Seminary to be the first occupant of the J. Gresham Machen Chair of New Testament. At his inauguration he delivered an address titled The Cognitive Peripheral Vision of Biblical Writers.

Inter-Varsity Press (IVP) was previously the publishing wing of Universities and Colleges Christian Fellowship. It support the publishing or distribution of well over one million books each year to over 150 countries, including the translation of titles into over 90 different languages. Following a UCCF-wide strategic review in 2005, IVP was divested. It was intended that this would reduce the financial burden on UCCF. By 2015, IVP was nearly insolvent. The trustees transferred its assets and liabilities to religious publisher SPCK, with an agreement to use the imprint for evangelical Christian publishing.

Catherine Clark Kroeger was an American writer, professor, New Testament scholar, and a leading figure within the biblical egalitarian movement. She founded the worldwide organization Christians for Biblical Equality (CBE), and its papers are housed at her family home. As a speaker, Kroeger traveled the globe opposing violence and the abuse of women, while also advancing the biblical basis for the shared leadership and authority of males and females.

John Jefferson Davis is Professor of Systematic Theology and Christian Ethics at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, where he has taught since 1975. He is an ordained Presbyterian pastor.

William A. Dyrness is an American theologian and professor of theology and culture at Fuller Theological Seminary. He teaches courses in theology, culture, and the arts, and is a founding member of the Brehm Center.

Stephen A. Hayner was an American Presbyterian minister who was the president of Columbia Theological Seminary, a professor, an author, and the former president of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship.

Thomas R. Schreiner is an American Reformed Baptist New Testament and Pauline scholar. He is the James Buchanan Harrison Professor of New Testament Interpretation at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He previously taught at Bethel University and Azusa Pacific University. He is also co-chairman of the Christian Standard Bible's Translation Oversight Committee and is the New Testament editor of the ESV Study Bible. Schreiner has degrees from Western Oregon University, Western Seminary, and Fuller Theological Seminary.

Kevin N. Giles is an Australian evangelical Anglican priest and theologian who was in parish ministry for over 40 years. He and his family live in Melbourne, Australia. Giles studied at Moore Theological College in Sydney, Durham University, England and Tubingen University, Germany. He has a Doctor of Theology degree from the Australian College of Theology.

Lucy Peppiatt is a British theologian and author who is Principal of Westminster Theological Centre. Peppiatt was appointed as Dean of Studies in 2012, and since 2013 she has she re-established WTC as one of the leading independent, interdenominational, charismatic, theological colleges in her role as Principal. She and her husband, Nick Crawley, founded Crossnet Church in 2004. She is now the chair of Crossnet Trust, which comprises a network of small community churches.
