Plot

Arivu and Anbu are brothers who always get into arguments but deep down still care for each other. This would be because of their contrasting personalities. While Arivu, who is the youngest, always get into fights and gets blames for troubles, Anbu on the other hand, hates confrontation and always obliged to what others (mostly his parents) says. Their parents were a love marriage couple and eloped and raise both of them, and their father is an ardent follower of Periyar. Since both of the brothers always quarrel when younger, their mother is worried about them two not getting along when older, which their father said that they will and she should not be worried about this.

Arivu works as an IT professional in Chennai and his brother still remained in the village as a government counsellor. Their mother keeps on nagging Anbu to get an arrange marriage and has recommended proposals to him, which he keeps denying, one day he agreed to the proposal. Their engagement is fixed and Arivu came down to visit to attend his elder brother's wedding. When he arrived there, he got slapped by this girl, which she mistaken him for harassing her friend. When she realised it was him, she avoided him, but Arivu became attracted to her because of how brave she was. When he returned home, he comes to find out that the wedding has been called off, and the ex-fiancée Aruna's brother attacked Anbu. Arivu tracked down the Aruna's brother who punched Anbu and attacked him as well.

The next few days, he starts seeing the girl on the first day of his arrival and admitted that he likes her, while she keeps avoiding because of her mistake. Out of curiosity, Arivu wanted to know why the engagement has been called off, which his friend told him that Aruna liked someone else and her partner called Anbu and told him to cancel the wedding, which this issue has led to both of the families to fight. Arivu wants to know who called Anbu. They ended up tracking down a guy named Aalavanthan who was the man who called up Anbu. He admitted that he has an unrequited crush on her for a year and when he found that she is engaged, he called up Anbu and lied saying that him and Aruna are in love. Arivu wanted to reunite both families together and make the engagement happen, but when Aalavanthan showed who Aruna was, she ended up being the girl whom he has fallen in love from his arrival. He instead wanted to impress her. He comes to find out her interests through Aalavanthan such as she likes art, favourite colour being black and is a fan of Yuvan Shankar Raja. He has tried his attempts to impress her, which she has not been realising. He also comes to find out that Senthil, who is Aruna's brother, was the guy who Arivu attacked him for attacking his brother. Because of this, he decided to keep his identity a secret.

Meanwhile, his office wanted Arivu to return to Chennai because they wanted him for a group project, which Arivu keeps postponing. He ends up meeting her at her small art studio and lied by saying that his name is Venkat and wanted to impress her but then realised that her brother is coming which he avoided. He also used her art pieces in a local market show to sell within her art, which Aruna started to fall in love with him too. Them two started to date until when Aruna wanted to introduce her brother to him which both Senthil and Arivu got into a fight. Aruna broke up with him because he lied about himself. When he returned home, Anbu had a go at him for being back to the village in the first place, which both of the brother's got into a fight which the mother attempted to stop but has injured her head. She was hospitalised and their father had a go at both of the brothers for not getting along in the first place. He admitted that due to his health, their mother has done a lot for them and her only wish was to see them get along and get married. Arivu's friend has a go at Arivu for being selfish and realised that Anbu does care a lot about Arivu and has sacrificed a lot for his family.

His friend admitted that Anbu was in love with this girl at his office named Kayal and has asked her out, but she rejected due to their caste difference and that she has been given a proposal the next day. She said, he can try and convince her father the next day (implying that she likes him). That day, Arivu got into a fight and Anbu had to bail him out. His friend suggested he should go and see Kayal's father while the friend can sort this out, which Anbu said it would not be fair for his parents. Kayal ended up remarrying, but recently comes to find out that she is now divorced. Arivu decided to reunite Anbu and Kayal. He got his other friend to convince Anbu to come with him to see his 'proposal' and when he comes to find out it was Kayal's place, he ended up admitting that he likes her and wants to get married. Kayal's father agrees but he wants Anbu to tell his parents. Anbu realised that this idea was Arivu and he admitted that Arivu does care about him and every fight he has been to was Arivu defending his brother.

Meanwhile, Senthil and his friends saw Arivu and his friend on a tractor and wanted to attack Arivu. While Senthil explained his plan during the bus ride, he accidentally touched a teenager. This caused the bus to stop and a fight occurs, which Arivu and his friend noticed it was Senthil, Arivu wanted to defend Senthil so that he can forgive him but Senthil thinks Arivu was making a prank out of this. Anbu stopped their argument and this was when Senthil admitted that he was in love with his collage mate Jenny for a year and a half and he wanted to propose to her on her birthday, which that was the day when Arivu attacked him, which resulted to Jenny rejecting him. Anbu suggested that Senthil should 'beat' up Arivu in front of Jenny so that Senthil can win her love. When they have tried to do this, they were stopped by the police and arrested, but was bailed out by Jenny, who admitted that she is the daughter of the police officer. Senthil thanked him and helped him apologise to Aruna. Arivu met up with her and begged for her forgiveness which she did and they are reunited.

The relationship with all of them are going great. Anbu told his parents about his love with Kayal which both families agreed to and their mother is happy that both of them are reconciling. Aruna convinced her mother that Arivu and his family are good people which Senthil fakes giving signs to her mother from God, which she agrees to. When Aruna tried to convince her father, he did not approve. Out of anger, he arranged her marriage to another suitor and the wedding is happening the day after. Out of no choice, Arivu got Aalavanthan and convince the groom that Aruna and him are in love, but he did this through Arivu's phone. Because of the location, her father finds out it was Arivu who called. Aruna and Senthil's father broke his phone, which his brother arrived. His brother causes a lot of drama, hence his father does not talk to him about the issue, but ended up telling him about Aruna and Arivu.

His father asked his brother to get the photos from Senthil and kidnap both the groom and Arivu's family, so that the wedding can happen as soon as possible. Senthil told Arivu that his uncle did not know about Anbu and Aruna's wedding being called off, so Arivu used that as his advantage for Senthil to explain the family but lied and said that the groom is Arivu and Arivu is the groom. This occurred and Arivu married Aruna, which her father found out and had a heart attack, which his brother did not understand what her father is trying to say and got them married off. The next day, Anbu married Kayal, which Aruna's father attend but still does not approve of her marriage with Arivu. However, when the whole family tried to leave to Chennai, Arivu tried to convince her father, which he faked a call about the Indian Premier League tickets (which her father is a massive cricket fan) being available, which interested her father and he approve to come to Chennai and their marriage. Cinema Express wrote "Just like the raging summer is briefly forgotten while gulping down a chilled glass of sarbath, this Sarbath too offers a decent detour from the rigours of our life and harks back to a time when people entered a cinema hall to forget everything and laugh. In Sarbath, the cinema screen is replaced by our televisions, and while the laughs don’t always come… thankfully, the smiles stay long enough". [12]
