Sarbeswar Bhoi is an Indian folksinger from Kalahandi, India of Sambalpuri folk music. [1] [2] He sang songs such as "Likri Jhkri' and "Lal Jhara Jhara" for the Sambalpuri movie Aadim Vichar , which won National Award for Best Feature Film in Odia Category in 2014. [3]

Early life

He was born in a Hindu Gouda (Yadav) family of Rekhpur village in Kalahandi District to Purusottam Bhoi and Pana Bhoi. His father is a farmer. He studied at Narla Panchyatsamiti High School. He enrolled in Madnpaur Rampur College and graduated from the Government Autonomous College in Bhawanipatna.

His career started while he was pursuing his degree. He participated in the Mahavid Sanskrutika Anusthan singing competition in 2002 and won first prize. He started learning Odissi from Guru Karunakar Dash in 2006 and four years later, he trained under Guru Santosh Kumar Das. [4]

His first break came in 2006. He recorded ″″Pakhanupare Jharana Paani″″ with Subham Music and it made him a star. He sang "Likri Jhikri", "Lal Jhara Jhara" for the National Award-winning movie Aadim Vichar in 2014. [6]

Hafeez Ahmed Khan was an Indian classical musician of Hindustani classical music. He is known as one of the leading exponents of the Rampur-Sahaswan gharana, a musical school popular in the northern parts of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. He learnt music in gurukul system and pursued his academic studies the conventional way, secured a master's degree in politics and taught at the University of Minnesota. He was a deputy director of the All India Radio and the vice chancellor of the Indira Kala Sangeet University, the only Indian university dedicated to music. He mentored many disciples such as Rajendra Prasanna, Roma Rani Bhattacharya, Sakuntala Narasimhan and Subhendu Ghosh and acted in a German movie on the life of Tansen, by name, The Rain Maker. Leena Mohanty is a leading exponent of Odissi dance, a disciple of Guru Deba Prasa Das. She is a recipient of the first Ustad Bismillah Khan Youth award, along with recoeving the Mahari award, the Sanjukta Panigrahi award and is an empanelled artist of the ICCR. She is a choreographer and has performed internationally. She is the artistic director of Bansi Bilas, Bhubaneshwar, Odisha and heads the Odissi Department of Kalpana Dance Theatre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as well as the Trinayan Dance Centre in New York.

<i>Aadim Vichar</i> 2014 Indian Sambalpuri language film

Aadim Vichar is a 2014 Indian Sambalpuri language drama film directed by Sabyasachi Mohapatra. The film won 62nd National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Odia and is a sequel to the 2012 movie "Sala Budha". Atal Bihari Panda and Sushree Smita Panda played lead roles in the film.

Meenakshi Srinivasan is an Indian classical dancer and choreographer, and an exponent of the Pandanallur style of Bharatnatyam. She trained under Alarmel Valli and is considered among the most promising soloists of the younger generation of dancers in this traditional style.

Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar is an annual Indian award given by the Sangeet Natak Akademi to outstanding artists under 40 who have demonstrated talent in the fields of music, dance and drama. The award is intended to provide national recognition to the artists in the early years of their careers. Every year up to 33 artists are selected. Award winners receive a prize of 25,000 (US$310). The award has been conferred since 2006.
