Sabyasachi Mohapatra (born 27 August 1950 in Lehedi, India) is an Indian film director, writer, and producer in Odia cinema. [1] [2] He owns a production house named Mohapatra Movie Magic. [3]
Mohapatra made his directorial debut in film Bhukha in Sambalpuri Language that won International Jury award at Gijon Film festival in Spain. [4]
His movie Jai Jagannatha released in 2006, a mythological film, was a mega-budget released in 15 different Indian languages. [5]
After 25 years, director Sabyasachi Mohapatra is back with Sala Budha in 2012. The film is based on a novel by renowned author Kapilesh Prasad Mohapatra (his father),the film was screened at the International Film Festival of in Goa, India in 2013 and the film won seven awards, including the best actor award, at the Odisha state film awards. He directed another Sambalpuri language film Aadim Vichar released in 2014 and the film won 62nd National Film Awards in Best Feature Film in Odia and also won Best director and Best actor award at 26th Odisha State Film Awards. [8] [9]
In 2015,he worked on his next project 'Pahada Ra Luha' and which earned him back-to-back National Film Awards. The film won Best Feature Film in Odia at 63rd National Film Awards in 2015. [10] [11] [12]

Odia cinema, also known as Ollywood, is the segment of Indian cinema, dedicated to the production of motion pictures in the Odia language widely spoken in the state of Odisha. Odia Cinema is based in Cuttack in Odisha, India. The name Ollywood is a portmanteau of the words Odia and Hollywood.
Sidhant Mohapatra, popularly known as Munna Bhai, is an Indian actor and politician primarily working in Odia cinema, with appearances in Telugu and Tamil films. Known as the "Dynamic Superstar" by his fans for his versatility in acting, comedy, and action, he has acted in over 200 films, with 180 of them in lead roles.
Jai Jagannatha is a 2007 Indian Sanātana Dharma film directed by Sabyasachi Mohapatra, released in 15 languages. Besides Odia and Hindi, its dubbed versions were released in English, Bengali, Assamese, Chhattisgarhi, Bhojpuri, Rajasthani, Punjabi, Gujarati, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Nepali languages.

This movie is based on the Sambalpuri play Bhukha written by Manglu Charan Biswal. It was the first film from Odisha to get an International Jury Award at the Gijón International Film Festival.
Sanjay Nayak is an Indian Odia filmmaker. He regarded as one of the most successful filmmakers in Odisha. Nayak, the young filmmaker has directed 32 movies in a short career of 15yrs in the film industry. He has also produced several movies under his production house 'Sanjay Nayak Films'. He not only directs but also write scripts, lyrics and does the screenplay. He produced and directed Keun Duniaru Asila Bandhu which is the first science fiction in Odia.
The first Sambalpuri movie released was Bhukha. It was released in the year 1989 and was directed by Sabyasachi Mohapatra. It was also the first film from Western Odisha to get an International Jury Award at the Gijon International Film Festival. The second film in Sambalpuri language is Ulugulan (Revolution), which was released in 2008, directed by Mahmood Hussain and produced by Purnabasi Sahu. Its story is set in the first half of the 18th century and depicts the tyrannical rule of the Nagpur rulers.

Swayamsiddha is a 2010 Odia film directed by Sudhanshu Sahu with a screenplay and dialogue by Dilip Choudhury, produced by Prabhat Ranjan Mallik, and starring Siddhanta Mahapatra and Yukta Inderlal Mookhey. The film focuses on the implications for the young mass adopting to Maoist insurgency and their sustained alienation from the mainstream as a result. Geo-strategic importance of changing the minds of young people adopting terrorism through love and affection. The film traces the crisis from social trauma to unfair state system encouraging Mao-Naxal insurgency in Odisha.

"Rangabati" is perhaps the most popular recorded song in Sambalpuri Odia. Krishna Patel, a 2023 Padma Shri awardee, is the female singer while the male singer Jitendra Haripal is a 2017 Padma Shri awardee. The song was first recorded for All India Radio in the mid-1970s. A record company from the then Calcutta, Indian Record Manufacturing Company Ltd (INRECO), re-recorded the song in 1976. The disc release was delayed due to a dispute and finally released in 1978–79. The Sambalpuri song was written by Mitrabhanu Gauntia, composed by Prabhudatta Pradhan and sung by Jitendra Haripal and Krishna Patel. In the 1970s and 1980s, the song gained popularity for being commonly played in marriage processions and Murti immersion. The song gained official recognition when it was played in the tableau of Odisha as part of the Republic Day celebrations at New Delhi in 2007. The lead singer Jitendra Haripal was also felicitated by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik later that year. It was also notably used in the celebration of victory during an international cricket match in Barabati Stadium, Cuttack. "Rangabati" was recreated in many other languages of India and has been recreated in Telugu for a movie.

Atal Bihari Panda was an Indian actor, playwright and lyricist, known for his works in Sambalpuri odia Cinema. He was the recipient of numerous awards, including two back-to-back Odisha State Film Awards for best actor. His debut in films came at an age of 83 years. Before his debut as an actor in films, he had already written 60 plays. He also wrote lyrics in many Sambalpuri songs.
