The Odisha State Film Awards have been conferred by the Department of Culture of the Government of Odisha, India.
The awards were initiated in 1968. The awards are decided by independent juries formed by the Department of Culture. The jury usually consists of eminent personalities from the film fraternity, academic, journalist and public servants.
'The Mohan Sunder Dev Goswami Award (earlier known as Jayadev Award)' is a special award given to a film personality for outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Odia cinema.

The Karan or Karana is a community found in the state of Odisha in India. The post of Karana used to be a professional designation that was occupied by literate peoples. They held Karanam posts in some parts of Andhra Pradesh, where they speak Odia and played a similar role in Odisha to that of the Kayasthas of West Bengal and Bihar. In the social hierarchy of Odisha they rank next to Brahmins. They exclusively served the ruling powers as their ministers, advisors, governors, military commanders, record keepers and dewans. They owned most Zamindaris in Odisha. They have the highest literacy caste-wise and are highly prosperous. Today they are a politically dominant community and have reigned over the politics of Odisha for 50 years.
Odia cinema, also known as Ollywood, is the segment of Indian cinema, dedicated to the production of motion pictures in the Odia language widely spoken in the state of Odisha. Odia Cinema is based in Cuttack in Odisha, India. The name Ollywood is a portmanteau of the words Odia and Hollywood.
Anubhav Mohanty is an Indian actor, politician, film producer, television personality and social activist who is known for his work majorly in Odia language films. Mohanty has also worked in Bengali films. Mohanty has a significant fan following, especially in Odisha. Anubhav Mohanty has achieved unparalleled success in odia cinema, delivering numerous box office hits.His film KARMA holds the distinction of being the highest-grossing Odia film of all time.Over the years,he has set benchmarks with the highest number of all-time blockbusters, blockbuster, superhit films,and 100-day theatrical runs in the history of odia cinema.These achievements earned him the title "King Of Odia Film Industry”.
Sarat Pujari was an Indian actor, director and producer in Odia film industry (Ollywood). He was originally from Jhaduapada, Sambalpur.
The Tarang Cine Awards are presented annually by Tarang entertainment television channel to honour both artistic and technical excellence of professionals in the Oriya language film industry mainly based in State of Orissa, India.
Swayamsiddha is a 2010 Odia film directed by Sudhanshu Sahu with a screenplay and dialogue by Dilip Choudhury, produced by Prabhat Ranjan Mallik, and starring Siddhanta Mahapatra and Yukta Inderlal Mookhey. The film focuses on the implications for the young mass adopting to Maoist insurgency and their sustained alienation from the mainstream as a result. Geo-strategic importance of changing the minds of young people adopting terrorism through love and affection. Malajahna is a 1965 Oriya film written and directed by Nitai Palit based on a novel of the same title by the Oriya novelist Upendra Kishore Das. The film stars Akshaya Mohanty (Kashyap) and Jharana Das in the lead. Considered as a classic in the history of Oriya cinema, the film deals with an unusual theme in seventies in rural India of love between a married woman and a young man.
Prafulla Kar was an Odia musician, singer, lyricist, writer and columnist. He was also famous for his Odissi Music recital. He received Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award by the Government of India in 2015 for his contribution in the field of arts.
Sabyasachi Mishra is an Indian actor known for his work in Odia Cinema. He is referred to as "Superstar of Ollywood". Pagala Premi was his first movie, for which he earned an Odisha State Film Award for Best Actor. Sabyasachi got his second state award for Emiti Bi Prema Hue. He won the Filmfare Awards East as best actor for Mu Eka Tumara in 2013.
Mo Duniya Tu Hi Tu is a 2013 Indian Odia drama film directed by Sudhakar Basanta and starring Anubhav, Barsha and Minaketan in pivotal roles with original soundtrack by Malay Misra. It was a remake of Tamil film Unnidathil Ennai Koduthen.
Babushaan Mohanty is an Indian actor and playback singer who predominantly works for Odia films. Also Known As Superstar Of Ollywood. In 2022, Babushan Mohanty portrayed Doctor Character in DAMaN movie was an Indian Odia-language adventure drama film Released in Odia as well as in the Hindi language.
Balunga Toka is a 2011 Indian Odia-language romantic drama film directed by Sudhakara Basanta. The film stars Anubhav Mohanty and Barsha Priyadarshini as lead role. A remake of the 2004 Tamil-Telugu bilingual film 7G Rainbow Colony, it released on 2 October 2011. The film was commercially successful.The film score was released by Amara Muzik.
Luchakali is an Odia drama and thriller film released on 30 March 2012. it features Babushaan, Shriya Jha, Samaresh Routray and Ajit Das in key roles with original music by Anbu Selvam. It is partially inspired by Hollywood thriller Sleeping with the Enemy.
Gloria Mohanty was an Indian theatre, television and film actress who worked in the Odia film industry. She was honoured with the State's highest honour for contribution to Odia cinema – the Jayadeb Puraskar in 1994 and Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1992. Cultural organisation Srjan awarded her Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Award for the year of 2011. and Life Time Achievement Award from Cultural organisation Ghungur in 2012.
Mohammad Nizam was a lyricist in the Odia movie industry. Nizam's songs appeared in over 160 movies. He was a screenwriter for over 50 movies and television shows, as well as providing scripts for over 70 stage shows.
Lochani Bag is an Indian actor who works mainly in the Odia film industry, "Ollywood". She has acted in films such as Aadim Vichar, Pahada ra Luha, Sala Budha and Odisha's first biopic film Tulasi Apa.
Kavya Keeran is an Indian actress and model who has mostly appeared in Odia and Hindi films. She started her film career in Ollywood and debuted in Bollywood through Rang-E-Ishq in 2015. She got the Odisha State Film Awards for Odia Film Khusi in 2019 and again she got the Odisha State Film Awards in the Best Actress category for Odia movie Shahid Raghu Sardar. In 2022, Kavya featured in a music video, Tu Ki Kitta by Rishi Singh.
DAMaN, abbreviation for Durgama Anchalare Malaria Nirakarana, is a 2022 Indian Odia-language adventure drama film written and directed by Vishal Mourya and Debi Prasad Lenka and produced by Deependra Samal. Released in Odia as well as a dubbed version in the Hindi language, the film stars Babushaan Mohanty and Dipanwit Dashmohapatra in lead roles.
Prema Adhei Akhyara is a 2010 Indian Oriya-language romantic drama film directed by Sudhakar Basanta. A remake of the 2007 Telugu film Aadavari Matalaku Arthale Verule, the film stars Babushaan Mohanty and Riya Dey in her debut.
