Prashanta Nanda (born 2 May 1947[1]) is an Indian director,actor and politician from the state of Odisha. He is currently a Member of Parliament at Rajya Sabha,the upper house of the Indian Parliament,for Odisha.[2] He had worked predominantly in Odia film industry but also worked in Bengali film industry and Hindi film industry extensively. He was also a former minister in Odisha state.[3][4]
From his childhood,he showed an interest in acting by participating in different dramas from his school days. He performed in a children’s program named Sishu Sansar for Cuttack's All India Radio with the character named Bulu.
Career
He started his acting career from early young age. While performing in a drama at Kala Vikash Kendra of Cuttack,Kaviraj Krushna Chandra Tripathy and Dhira Biswal choose him for the Odia movie Dasyu Ratnakar.
At first he has given direction to 1975 Odia movie Mamata. But due to his young age,the producer suggested not to disclose his name. So he has given veteran actor Byomkesh Tripathy's name in the credits.
The whole shooting of the movie Naiyya was done in the bank of Mahanadi near Cuttack. The film’s music was given by the legendary musician Ravindra Jain. He again collaborated with Rajshri Productions with movie Paheli. He has also given his direction in 1984 Hindi movie,Grahasthi starring Yogeeta Bali,Suresh Oberoi and Ashok Kumar.
The Odia movie Maa O Mamata,based on a short story written by him while he was in his 9th standard. His mother found out his story diary and showed to his father. They were worried about his future,because of the content of story written by a school going boy. For that they punished him.
Later,in 1980,Nanda made a movie named Maa O Mamata,where he was the lead actor along with Mahasweta Ray,Hemant Das and Anita Das. The movie was a blockbuster at that time. His father never saw his films,but by hearing a lot of appreciation from everyone’s mouth,he asked him about the movie and showed interest to watch it. After watching the movie,he was surprised and asked where he found this kind of story. In reply,Prashanta said,the story was the same as what he had written in that dairy in his childhood for which they had punished him and hid that dairy. After that,his father got emotional with happiness and told him,As a parent,sometimes we behave more protective towards our children,and we never want our child to go the wrong way but it is difficult to find what talents our child has gifted by god.
While sharing the story of Maa O Mamata,Nanda has shared one of the songs Jane Radha Jane Meera and some parts of the film with the veteran Bollywood actor Raj Kapoor. Later,the song lyrics and theme of the movie Maa O Mamata reflects in his 1985 film Ram Teri Ganga Maili.
In 2013,it was announced that he had joined other Bollywood and international celebrities in the TeachAids initiative,a state-of-the-art approach to worldwide HIV prevention,developed at Stanford University.[7]
Uttam Mohanty is an Indian film and television actor who has to his credit more than 135 Odia films to date and has acted in 30 Bengali films and in a Hindi film Naya Zaher.
Akshaya Mohanty, also known as Khoka Bhai, was an Indian singer, lyricist, composer, musician and writer in Odia. He has contributed Odia bhajans, Odissi songs, folk songs, film and non-film modern light songs in Odisha on contemporary themes and ballads based on popular legends in Odisha.
Kalindi Charan Panigrahi was a noted Odia poet, novelist, story writer, dramatist, and essayist. He is famous for his magnum opus Matira Manisha. He has been awarded Padma Bhushan and Sahitya Akademi award for contribution to Odia literature.

Swapna Sagara is a 1983 Indian Odia-language film. It was produced, directed and written by Prashant Nanda. Music was scored by Akshaya Mohanty. The movie featured Dukhiram Swain, Prashant Nanda, Sriram Panda, Mahasweta Ray and Anita Das. It was the first 70mm movie in Odia cinema.
Bijay Mohanty was an Indian actor in Odia Cinema. He starred in the film Chilika Teerey, which was honored a National Film Award.
Nikhil Baran Sengupta was a Hindi, Bengali, and Oriya art director, actor, painter and production designer. He made his debut as an art-director with "Gapa hele be Sata" (1975). His contribution to the success of films such as Janani (1984), Sahari Bagha (1985), Maa O Mamata, Suna Chadhei (1987), Jugantar, Tahader Katha, Bagh Bahadur (1989) and Mr. and Mrs. Iyer (2002) had always been acknowledged but less talked about.
Dukhiram Swain was an Indian film and television actor. He was one of the most popular villains in Odia cinema and played a variety of roles most notably as the antagonist in many Odia films and various roles in television serials. He was considered to be one amongst the club of natural actors. He won the National Film Award for Shesha Shrabana (1976), the Orissa State Film Award for Best Supporting Actor and several "Best Villain" awards from State Film Awards and the Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi. He was honoured with the Jayadeva Purashkar of Odisha.

Emiti Bi Prema Hue is a 2012 Indian Oriya romantic drama film directed by Nishikant Dalabehera. Sabyasachi Mishra, Riya Dey and Mihir Das played the lead cast. The film was released on 10 February 2012.

Shesha Shrabana is a 1976 Odia language Indian movie. It is directed by Prashant Nanda. It stars Prashant Nanda, Mahasweta Roy, Banaja Mohanty and Hemant Das. It is based on a novel of Basant Mahapatra by the same name. In 1979, the film remade as Naiyya in Hindi language by the same director. This film achieved great success in terms of box office and acclaimed by reviewers.
Mohammad Mohsin called popularly as Mohsin was an Indian actor, director and producer. Mohsin started a revolution in commercial Odia movies and connected with the pulse of his audience. His movies ranged from social drama to action packed crime thrillers. Mohsin made his first Bollywood debut in the movie Naiyya, in which he played the character of Karim. Naiyya was produced and distributed by Rajshri Productions, which was a remake of Odia movie Shesha Shrabana, in which Mohsin played the character of a boat maker.
Satyabrata Tripathy is an Indian actor, radio personality, VJ and television presenter, who mostly works on Odia language films and television shows. He is appointed as the chairman of Odisha Film Development Corporation by the Government of Odisha in 2018. In his career, he has worked is Script, Lyrics, Dialogue & Direction. He has also scripted and directed many Docu-Dramas, and telefilms.
