Sardono Waluyo Kusumo (born March 6, 1945, in Surakarta (also called Solo)), is an Indonesian choreographer, dancer, film director and actor.
He studied classical Javanese dance and specialized afterwards in local dances in combination with modern dance techniques. In 1961 he led a major dance company of 250 dancers at the Hindu temple complex Prambanan, at about 18 km eastwards of Yogyakarta along the road to Surakarta. [1] In the seventies he founded his own theater company, Dance Theatre Sardono.
Next to his dancing career, he also was an actor and film maker. Beside his professional career he is a promoter of the preservation of the rainforests in the country. [2] [1]

Central Java is a province of Indonesia, located in the middle of the island of Java. Its administrative capital is Semarang. It is bordered by West Java in the west, the Indian Ocean and the Special Region of Yogyakarta in the south, East Java in the east, and the Java Sea in the north. It has a total area of 34,337.48 km2, with a population of 36,516,035 at the 2020 Census making it the third-most populous province in both Java and Indonesia after West Java and East Java. The official estimate as at mid 2022 was 37,032,410. The province also includes a number of offshore islands, including the island of Nusakambangan in the south, and the Karimun Jawa Islands in the Java Sea.
Surakarta, known colloquially as Solo, is a major city in Central Java, Indonesia. The 46.72 km2 city adjoins Karanganyar Regency and Boyolali Regency to the north, Karanganyar Regency and Sukoharjo Regency to the east and west, and Sukoharjo Regency to the south. On the eastern side of Solo lies Solo River. Its metropolitan area, consisting of Surakarta City and 59 districts spread over seven regencies, was home to 3,649,254 inhabitants as at the 2010 census, around half million of whom reside in the city proper.
The Sultanate of Mataram was the last major independent Javanese kingdom on the island of Java before it was colonised by the Dutch. It was the dominant political force radiating from the interior of Central Java from the late 16th century until the beginning of the 18th century.

Sri Susuhunan Pakubuwono XIII has been the Monarch of the Surakarta Sunanate since 2004. The title Pakubuwono XIII was initially claimed by two of the sons of the former king, Pakubuwono XII, Hangabehi and Tedjowulan, after their father's death. The problem of succession arose because the sons had been born to different mothers but Pakubuwono XII had never formally appointed a queen consort. The oldest son, Kanjeng Gusti Pangeran Haryo Hangabehi, was appointed by the royal family as the court's ruler. The younger son, KGPH Tedjowulan, then declared a walkout from the palace. Both sons subsequently claimed the title and each separately held a funeral for their father. However, family consensus recognized KGPH Hangabehi as SISKS Pakubuwono XIII.
