Scope Neglect is the sixth studio album by Australian-Icelandic musician Ben Frost. It was released on 1 March 2024 through Mute Records, as his first studio offering in seven years, following The Centre Cannot Hold (2017). It features collaborations from Greg Kubacki of Car Bomb and Liam Andrews of My Disco.
Scope Neglect was recorded at Candybomber Studios, located at Berlin Tempelhof Airport, together with engineer Ingo Krauss. Inspired by the approaches of Mark Hollis and Talk Talk, the recording process was met with the use of innovative recording techniques. Frost would reveal only parts of his arrangements to his collaborators and point their efforts into one direction, while continuing into another one. In the process, Frost created entire orchestrations with the intent to push dynamics into unpredictable territory. [1] The album draws inspiration from "transcendental reveries" of "West Coast minimalists" and leans sonically more "into metal". [2] In a press release, Scope Neglect was described as a "journey of contrasts, where raw power meets ethereal delicacy" that sees the musician venturing into "new sonic territories". [3]
Frost previously tested out most of the material on the record during concerts in 2023 and 2024. [4] On 15 November 2023, after years of collaborational ventures, Frost returned to solo endeavours by releasing the lead single "Turning the Prism". Dubbed a signature song of his, it showcases "his strong dynamic evolution in the realms of sound and artistry". [5] The musician shared first details of Scope Neglect on 11 January 2024, alongside the release of the second single "The River of Light and Radiation". Philip Sherburne of Pitchfork wrote that Frost makes a "claustrophobic landscape out of chugging metal riffs" as the album "plays out like a loose theme and variations". Calling it "inscrutable", Sherburne also felt that "where even the most extreme metal typically conveys a feeling of exhilaration, Scope Neglect feels dour and cramped and weirdly enervating—a foul mood in a windowless room". Random Access Memories is the fourth and final studio album by the French electronic duo Daft Punk, released on 17 May 2013 through Columbia Records. Sonic Highways is the eighth studio album by American rock band Foo Fighters, released on November 10, 2014, through Roswell and RCA Records. Similar to their previous album, Wasting Light (2011), it was produced by the band with Butch Vig. In writing the album's eight songs, singer and guitarist Dave Grohl traveled to eight cities across the United States to conduct interviews with musicians, recording engineers, record producers, and other individuals discussing each city's musical history, which he used as inspiration for the songs' lyrics. The band and Vig then traveled to a different recording location in each city to record the songs. Each track features contributions from one or more musicians with ties to that city's musical history. The process was filmed for a companion television series, Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways, which was broadcast on HBO in the months surrounding the album's release.

Alexander Giannascoli, better known by his stage names Alex G or, formerly, (Sandy) Alex G, is an American musician, producer, and singer-songwriter. He started his career with DIY self-releases on Bandcamp and began building up an audience with his label debut, DSU (2014), released on Orchid Tapes to critical acclaim from various publications. He later signed with Lucky Number, who reissued his earlier releases, Rules and Trick (2012). In 2015, he signed with Domino Recording Company and released his sixth studio album, Beach Music. He followed it in 2017 with Rocket, which received further acclaim and recognition. Giannascoli's eighth studio album, House of Sugar, was released in 2019, and his ninth, God Save the Animals, in 2022.
Brandon Paak Anderson, better known by his stage name Anderson .Paak, is an American singer, rapper, songwriter, record producer, and drummer. He released his debut mixtape, O.B.E. Vol. 1 in 2012 and went on to release his debut album Venice in 2014. In 2016, he followed up with his second album, Malibu, which received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album, followed by his third album, Oxnard (2018). Caligula's Horse is an Australian progressive metal band from Brisbane, Queensland. The band was formed by Sam Vallen and Jim Grey in early 2011. The current lineup consists of lead vocalist Jim Grey, lead guitarist Sam Vallen, bassist Dale Prinsse and drummer Josh Griffin. Caligula's Horse achieved their first chart success with their 2015 album release Bloom, with it reaching number 16 on the Australian Albums ARIA Chart and number 75 on the overall album chart. The album also reached number 73 on the Australian iTunes chart on 21 October 2015.

Silk Sonic is an American musical superduo composed of musicians Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak. The duo released their debut single, "Leave the Door Open", in March 2021. They later released "Skate" in July 2021, followed by third single, "Smokin out the Window", and their debut album, An Evening with Silk Sonic, in November 2021. The album peaked at number two on the Billboard 200, while the first three singles reached the top twenty on the Billboard Hot 100, with "Leave the Door Open" spending 18 weeks in the top ten and two non-consecutive weeks at the top spot. The song later won four Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year.
