Scott & Rivers is an American Japanese-language musical project by Rivers Cuomo of the band Weezer and Scott Murphy of the band Allister. [1]
In 2009, while on tour in Japan, Rivers Cuomo was introduced to Scott Murphy's Japanese-language music. After discovering that they were both signed to Universal Music Group, [2] Rivers asked the label to arrange a meeting. [1]
They met in Los Angeles in 2009, and soon began writing and recording an album of original songs sung in Japanese together for the new "Scott & Rivers" project, as they both speak fluent Japanese. They both share lead vocal duties and play guitar in the group. [3] Scott & Rivers played their first shows at the Radio Crazy Festival in Osaka, Japan on 29 December 2012 [4] and at the Countdown Japan Festival in Chiba, Japan on 31 December 2012, as the first non-Japanese act to perform at the popular festivals. [5]
On March 20, 2013, Scott & Rivers released a 12-song self-titled album through Delicious Deli Records, then an imprint of Universal Music Japan. [6] The album contains 11 original songs, plus a cover of Kaela Kimura's song "Butterfly."[ citation needed ] They played a sold out headlining tour in March and April 2013 to promote the album's release. Scott Murphy also joined Cuomo's band Weezer on stage at the Punk Spring '13 festival in Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya to play their first single, "Homely Girl" for the Japanese audiences. They also played as an act on the second Weezer Cruise in 2014. [7]
In 2015, Rivers' band Weezer, recorded an English version of one of their songs, "カリフォルニア (California)", as "California Kids" and released it as the opening track of their album "Weezer (White Album)".
Scott & Rivers debuted at #1 on the iTunes Japan alternative charts on the week it was released. The album is currently available physically only in Japan, and digitally worldwide through iTunes. [8]
On April 12, 2017, they released their second album, ニマイメ (Nimaime) through Sony Music Japan. [1] [9] A month later, the duo performed a Japanese folk song in an ad for Uniqlo. [9]

Allister is an American pop-punk band from Chicago, Illinois. The four-piece formed in 1994 as Phineas Gage when the original band members were still in high school. In 1998, Allister became one of the first bands to sign to Drive-Thru Records. They went on hiatus in 2007, then reunited in 2010, and have been touring and recording again since. They have released six studio albums: Dead Ends and Girlfriends (1999), Last Stop Suburbia (2002), Before the Blackout (2005), Countdown to Nowhere (2010), Life Behind Machines (2012), and 20 Years and Counting (2019). The band also made a cameo appearance in the 2004 film Sleepover.
The Lion and the Witch is a live EP by American rock band Weezer. Recorded in Japan in the spring of 2002 while promoting Maladroit, released on September 24, 2002, exactly six years after the release of Pinkerton. It was distributed as a limited edition release in independently owned music stores with only 25,000 copies having been made. The album was then rereleased and remastered on vinyl in 2015, with only 3,000 copies made.
Make Believe is the fifth studio album by American rock band Weezer. It was released on May 10, 2005, by Geffen Records. The album was considered to be a return to some of the emotionally vulnerable lyrics of Weezer's previous releases, and due to the strength of the hit single "Beverly Hills", the album was a commercial success, peaking at number two on the US Billboard 200 and number eleven on the UK Albums Chart. In addition, "Beverly Hills" also earned Weezer their first Grammy nomination for Best Rock Song. Despite this, Make Believe received mixed reviews from critics and fans, although it has remained a consistent seller. The recording process of Make Believe began prior to the release of their previous album, Maladroit; however, it was prolonged compared to the recording of most of Weezer's previous albums, and lasted for almost three years. Rivers Cuomo's songwriting on Make Believe was described as "[a] return to musical, emotional bloodletting", although the lyrics were noticeably simpler than before.

The album was preceded by the lead single "All My Favorite Songs", released on January 21, 2021. The album received generally positive reviews from critics. OK Human is the first of two Weezer albums to be released in 2021, followed only four months later by Van Weezer.
