Scott Van Pelt(born 1966or1967) [1] is an American sportscaster and sports talk show host employed by ESPN. He is a long time anchor of key editions of SportsCenter on ESPN, served as the co-host of SVP & Russillo alongside Ryen Russillo on ESPN Radio, and hosts various major golf events for the network. For the 2023–24 NFL season, Van Pelt took over as host of Monday Night Countdown .
Van Pelt was born in Brookeville, Maryland, [2] and grew up in the Washington, D.C., area. He attended Flower Valley Elementary School in Rockville, Maryland. He graduated from Sherwood High School in Sandy Spring, Maryland, and from the University of Maryland in 1988 where he studied radio/television and film. He is a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. [3] [4]

Van Pelt began his career in sportscasting in 1990 at WTTG-TV, a FOX affiliate in Washington, D.C. From 1995 to 2000, Van Pelt worked for the Golf Channel, where he was a studio host for some of the network's signature programs. He left the channel in 2001 to join ESPN, where he serves as a SportsCenter anchor, and is one of the network's top golf correspondents, covering major tournaments such as the Masters Tournament. [3] After acquiring the cable rights to the tournament, Van Pelt also appeared on ESPN's coverage of The Open Championship. He also is a prominent personality for ESPN Radio, where he was the co-host of Tirico and Van Pelt alongside Mike Tirico before the program was canceled and replaced with Van Pelt's own three-hour program, The Scott Van Pelt Show, in 2009. The show was renamed SVP & Russillo in October 2012 with Van Pelt working alongside Ryen Russillo. He is a studio presenter for the ESPN Network's Friday night College Football on ESPN.
Van Pelt has also appeared as a commentator in golf video games, alongside Kelly Tilghman on EA Sports' Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 [5] and in a comedic turn in Aqua Teen Hunger Force Zombie Ninja Pro-Am . [6] [7]
In 2012, Van Pelt made the decision to stay with ESPN. [8] In May 2015, the network announced Van Pelt would leave the radio show SVP & Russillo to become a solo anchor for a midnight edition of SportsCenter, which began in late summer 2015. The midnight show covers sports events from the day, but includes additional commentary from Van Pelt and some popular elements from the radio show. [9]
Van Pelt's grandfather, Lorenzo, immigrated to the U.S. from Italy and lived in Brooklyn. [10]
While Van Pelt is a known supporter of his Alma mater, [11] the University of Maryland, he has declared Madison, WI, to be the best college town in the country. [12]

Monday Night Countdown is an American pregame television program that is broadcast on ESPN, preceding its coverage of Monday Night Football. For the network's non-Monday broadcasts, the pregame show is simply titled NFL Countdown. When it debuted in 1993 as NFL Prime Monday, and Monday Night Football was airing on ABC, the pregame show was one of the first cross-pollinations between ESPN and ABC Sports, each of which operated largely under separate management at the time. The PGA Tour's broadcast television rights are held by CBS Sports and NBC Sports, under contracts most recently renewed in 2021 to last through 2030. While it considered invoking an option to opt out of its broadcast television contracts in 2017, the PGA Tour ultimately decided against doing so. Golf Channel has served as the pay television rightsholder of the PGA Tour since 2007, and its current contract will also expire in 2021. Under the contracts, CBS broadcasts weekend coverage for an average of 20 events per-season, and NBC broadcasts weekend coverage for an average of 10 events per-season. Golf Channel broadcasts early-round and weekend morning coverage of all events, as well as weekend coverage of events not broadcast on terrestrial television, and primetime encores of all events. Tournaments typically featured in NBC's package include marquee events such as The Players Championship, the final three tournaments of the FedEx Cup Playoffs, and the biennial Presidents Cup event. The 2011 contract granted more extensive digital rights, as well as the ability for NBC to broadcast supplemental coverage of events on Golf Channel during its broadcast windows.
