Tarun Gogoi constituted his ministry for a second time on 21 May 2006. Gogoi had previously been Chief Minister since 2001. Following the 2006 Assam Legislative Assembly election, Gogoi became Chief Minister for a second time as he had formed his first ministry previously.^[1] The coalition government was supported by the Hagrama faction of the Bodoland People's Progressive Front, NCP and independents. There were 17 cabinet ministers and one minister of state, all of whom were either Congress or Independent.

Gogoi was sworn on 14 May 2006 at Raj Bhavan.^[1]^[2]^[3] Earlier, Gogoi arrived with his wife Dolly Gogoi and several newly elected MLAs at Raj Bhavan. The oath of office and secrecy was administered to Gogoi by Governor Ajai Singh at a simple function in the Durbar Hall of the Raj Bhavan in Guwahati. Digvijay Singh, who was in charge of Congress affairs in Assam, AICC observer Chandan Bagchi, BPF president Hagrama Mohilary and state Congress president Bhubaneswar Kalita attended the swearing-in ceremony. Asom Gana Parishad president Brindaban Goswami and AGP-Progressive president and former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta were also present. The opposition BJP and AIUDF were absent.^[1] Gogoi allotted the portfolios to his ministers on 21 May 2006.^[4]

During the ministry the law and order situation abruptly improved and the financial condition of the state improved. Gogoi gave importance to implementation of the schemes of the Central Government by different departments of the state. He also gave importance for industrialization of the state. He also took initiative to solve the insurgency problems of Assam through negotiation.^[3]

Bhumidhar Barman was an Indian Politician belonging to the Indian National Congress. He was the shortest-serving Chief Minister of Assam, with a short period of twenty two days from 22 April 1996 to 14 May 1996. He was a member of the Assam Legislative Assembly being elected 7 times. He was first elected in 1967. In 2015, he was made a Cabinet Minister of Assam.

Kesab Chandra Gogoi was an Indian politician who was the Chief Minister of the state of Assam for two months in 1982. For most of his political career, he was a member of Indian National Congress. He was a finance minister in the Assam state cabinet twice and a member of the Assam Legislative Assembly from Dibrugarh constituency.

The Assam Legislative Assembly Election of 2016 was held in two phases, on 4 and 11 April 2016, to elect members of the 126 constituencies in Assam, a state in North-eastern India. The overall voter turnout was 84.72%, which set a new record for Assam. The turnout was an increase from the 2011 Assembly election figure of 75%.

The Third Tarun Gogoi ministry is the third consecutive council of ministers of the Government of Assam headed by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi between 2011 and 2016. The ministry was constituted on 30 May 2011 after Tarun Gogoi was sworn-in as the chief minister of the state for the third consecutive term after leading the Indian National Congress into victory in the assembly election. The ministry remained into force until 24 May 2016.

The ministry of Kesab Chandra Gogoi was formed on 13 January 1982. The formation of the ministry ended 197 days of President’s rule in Assam. The ministry ended after only 66 days, after Gogoi resigned during a motion of no confidence vote. Gogoi then recommended that the state again be put under President’s Rule.

Tarun Gogoi constituted his first ministry and became the 13th Chief Minister of Assam on 17 May 2001. Following the 2001 Assam Legislative Assembly election, Gogoi became Chief Minister succeeding AGP chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta. There were 12 cabinet ministers and 4 ministers of state in the ministry.

Ajit Singh is an Indian politician from the state of Assam. He served as Member of Assam Legislative Assembly from Udharbond from 1998 to 2016. He also served as a minister of state from 2011 to 2015 and as a cabinet minister from 2015 to 2016. He has contested the Udharbond constituency every election since 1998.

Elections to the Assam Legislative Assembly were held in 2001 to elect members of 114 constituencies in Assam, India. The Indian National Congress won the popular vote and a majority of seats and Tarun Gogoi was appointed as the Chief Minister of Assam. The number of constituencies was set as 126, by the recommendation of the Delimitation Commission of India.
