The Second Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy ministry (or also known as 23rdministryof Andhra Pradesh) of the state of Andhra Pradesh was formed on 25 May 2009 headed by Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy as the Chief Minister following the 2009 Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly election. [1]

Background

Prior to 2009 Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections a pre-poll alliance was formed by the Telugu Desam Party, Telangana Rashtra Samithi, Communist Party of India and Communist Party of India (Marxist) to contest in the elections against the sole incumbent contender Indian National Congress. [2]

Yeduguri Sandinti Rajasekhara Reddy, popularly known as YSR was an Indian politician. He served as the 14th chief minister of Andhra Pradesh from 2004 to 2009. Reddy was elected four times to the Lok Sabha from Kadapa and to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly for six terms from the Pulivendula, winning every election he contested.

The 2009 Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly election took place in April 2009, concurrently with the 2009 Indian general election. The elections were held in the state in the first phase on 16 April 2009 and the second phase on 23 April 2009. The results were declared on 16 May 2009 The incumbent Indian National Congress retained power in the United Andhra Pradesh State Assembly lower house, though with a reduced majority. The Congress Legislature party re-elected incumbent Chief minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy as its leader thus re-nominating him to the post.

He was elected in the 2009 general assembly elections, when he defeated the sitting MLA. Reddy is a supporter of Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, president of Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party. Gadikota Srikanth Reddy was the Chief Whip in Andhra Pradesh State Legislative Assembly from 2019 to 2024.

He later won 2014 elections and 2019 elections. He hails from Chittoor district and holds a PhD in sociology.
