Sendiri (Alone in the Indonesian language) is a 1984 album by Indonesian singer Chrisye. It was his ninth studio album and eight with Musica Studios as well as his third album released in 1984 after Metropolitan and Nona (Miss).
After the release of Nona (Miss; 1984), Chrisye broke off his three album collaboration with Eros Djarot and Jockie Soerjoprajogo as he was tired of art rock. [1] Looking for a change, he approached Addie MS to be the music director. Addie, who considered Chrisye his idol, was initially uncertain if he was of the same caliber as Chrisye's previous partners. [2] Chrisye, who had been observing Addie's work with his friend Keenan Nasution as well as Vina Panduwinata's debut album Citra Biru (Blue Image; 1981) and enjoyed what he heard, insisted. [3] [4]
Once Addie was convinced to work on the album, he approached the issue aggressively. Chrisye's recent trilogy had been heavily inspired by art rock, which was a departure from the original romantic pop sound that Chrisye had had with the successful albums Badai Pasti Berlalu (The Storm will Surely Pass; 1977) and Sabda Alam (Fragile Nature; 1978); Addie insisted that the new album should harken back to those earlier albums. [5] Together Chrisye and Addie planned the album in Addie's home in Tebet, South Jakarta; [6] Addie later recalled that they both overthought the issues, as both were perfectionists. [2] Addie also served as sound engineer with Irsan. [7] Eros wrote the lyrics to nine of the songs on the album. [7]
Addie arranged for the musicians. Heidi Awuy played the harp, Yudhianto played the cor anglais and oboe, while Chrisye's brother-in-law Raidy Noor (who also composed the song "Windy") played the bass. Uce Haryono played the guitar, while Ian Antono played guitar. A string section, consisting of Suryati Supilin, Su Yin, Edo, Kwang Tju, and Zulkifli, was hired to provide further backing. Vina Panduwinata was booked to perform "Lestariku" ("My Eternity") in a duet with Chrisye; [6] Addie later told her that the song had been written with a duet with her in mind. [8]
The titular song, "Sendiri", is accompanied only by piano and cor anglais music. According to Addie, when he proposed such an arrangement Chrisye initially had difficulty believing that it could be successful; [2] at the time, no such arrangement had been used on an Indonesian song. [6]
Sendiri was released in 1984 with a cover was designed by Chrisye's childhood friend Gauri Nasution and photography by Tara and Firman. [7] It was well received and spawned three singles: "Kisah Insani", "Sendiri", and "Lestariku" ("My Eternity"). [6] Sendiri won that year's BASF Award for best selling album, selling over 100,000 copies. [9]
Sendiri has been reissued twice, once as a CD in 2004 [10] and once as part of the Chrisye Masterpiece Trilogy Limited Edition in 2007. [11]

Haji Chrismansyah Rahadi, born Christian Rahadi but better known by his stage name of Chrisye, was an Indonesian progressive pop singer and songwriter. In 2011 Rolling Stone Indonesia declared him the third-greatest Indonesian musician of all time.
Badai Pasti Berlalu is the 1977 soundtrack to the Indonesian film of the same name. Rolling Stone Indonesia listed it as the best Indonesian album of all time. Three of its songs, Badai Pasti Berlalu, Merpati Putih, and Merepih Alam, were listed by Rolling Stone as among the best Indonesian songs ever released.
Sabda Alam is a 1978 Indonesian album released by Musica Studios. It is Chrisye's second studio album and his first after signing with Musica. The album was written in collaboration with Guruh Sukarnoputra. It was well received and, in 2007, was listed by Rolling Stone Indonesia as one of the 150 best Indonesian albums of all time. Actually, this album was scheduled to be released in August 1977, but it was officially released in early 1978.
Hip Hip Hura is Chrisye's eleventh studio album, recorded in collaboration with Adjie Soetama. It was released in 1985 by Musica Studios. The album, with a similar beat to the earlier Aku Cinta Dia, was later certified silver. However, Chrisye was accused of plagiarism over the title song owing to similarities between it and Kenny Loggins' song "Footloose".
Senyawa is an Indonesian album released by Musica Studios in 2004. It was Chrisye's last studio album and a collaboration with numerous Indonesian singers and bands, including Project Pop, Peterpan, Ahmad Dhani, and Ungu.
Guruh Gipsy is a 1976 Indonesian studio album released by Guruh Sukarnoputra in collaboration with the band Gipsy, consisting of Keenan Nasution, Chrisye, Roni Harahap, and Oding Nasution. Mixing modern instruments with traditional Javanese and Balinese music styles, it is now considered a landmark album. In 2007, Rolling Stone Indonesia voted it the second best Indonesian album of all time.
Kala Cinta Menggoda is a 1997 album by Indonesian singer Chrisye, with arrangement by Erwin Gutawa. It was released by Musica Studios and it also was his 17th album. It received numerous awards, including two Anugerah Musik Indonesia Awards, in 1998; the music video for the title song "Kala Cinta Menggoda" won the Asia Viewer's Choice Award that same year. This album was also recorded by Chrisye prior to his death, 10 years later.
Seindah Rembulan is a 1980 Indonesian film directed by Syamsul Fuad. It features Iis Sugianto, Sys NS, Chrisye, and Lydia Kandou in a story about a singer working to support her family. It spawned a soundtrack album.

It was a commercial hit upon release, selling 350,000 copies and being certified silver. In 2007 Rolling Stone Indonesia listed it as the 82nd best Indonesian album of all time.
