Erwin Gutawa Sumapraja (born 16 May 1962) is an Indonesian composer. In 1985, he started his professional music career by joining the jazz band Karimata, later becoming an independent composer in 1991. As a composer, he won the 1992 Midnight Sun Song Festival in Finland, together with Ruth Sahanaya. In 2001, he won the Anugerah Musik Indonesia award for best music arranger for his concert Rockestra.
Erwin Gutawa was born in Jakarta, Indonesia, on 16 May 1962. [1] As a child, he enjoyed playing basketball and association football. [2] During this period he also played music on Bina Musika under the direction of Agus Rusli on Televisi Republik Indonesia. [1] As a teen, he continued playing music with his friends. [2] After graduating high school, Gutawa earned a bachelor's degree in architecture from the University of Indonesia. [1]
In the early 1980s Gutawa worked as sound arranger for the TVRI series Telerama. [1] However, his professional career began in the 1985 when he joined the jazz band Karimata as a bassist, playing along with Candra Darusman, Aminoto Kosin, Denny T.R. and Uce Hariono. Together with Karimata, he performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival in The Hague that same year. [3]
During that period, he also worked as an arranger and producer for other singers. After Karimata disbanded in 1991, Gutawa formed his own orchestra and worked as a composer. Besides composing, Gutawa also organised concerts for other artists. [3]
On 3 November 2000, Gutawa presented Rockestra, a rock concert featuring Slank, Gigi, and Dewa. Involving an orchestra of 85 musicians, the concert was held at the Plenary Hall of the Jakarta Convention Center. Guest musicians included Ahmad Albar, Roni Harahap, Jockie Soerjoprajogo, and Nicky Astria. [4]
On 16 May 2002, Gutawa celebrated his 40th birthday by holding his first solo concert, Konser EG. It took place at the Plenary Hall of the Jakarta Convention Center and also featured Chrisye, Ruth Sahanaya, Krisdayanti, Sheila on 7, and Slank. [3] [5] Since then, he has held numerous concerts, including the Islamic-themed The Spirit of Ramadhan (2008) [6] and a farewell concert for his daughter Gita Gutawa entitled A Masterpiece of Erwin Gutawa (2011). In 2005, Gutawa went to London, England to work as a conductor at the London Symphony Orchestra in Royal Albert Hall. [1]
In 2010, Gutawa was selected to be one of the judges for Indonesian Idol's sixth season. [8]
Gutawa is married to Lufti Adriani, also known as Lulu. Together, they have two children, Aluna Sagita and Aura Aria Gutawa. [1] [2] He enjoys cycling and home cooking, especially Indonesian food. [2]

In the 2020s, she released the song Show Off Your Colors, in collaboration with Eka Gustiwana, Sarah Fajira, and Ashanty. Her latest release was the song "To Lose" as an answer to a netizen challenge, and she also released a ballad version called "Still Learning".

Written as a way to "bring people to pray and praise Allah", the album included two new songs and six covers or rearrangements. The proceeds from album sales were to be donated to the poor.
Harmoni Cinta is an album by Gita Gutawa. It was released in 2009 by Sony Music Indonesia, with a part of the sales used to send poor students to school. Jockie Soerjoprajogo was an Indonesian musician and songwriter. Jockie began his musical career while a junior high school student in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan. After working with bands in Jakarta and Surabaya, in 1973, he joined with Ahmad Albar, Donny Fattah and Ludwig Leeman to form God Bless; he would remain with this band intermittently until the 2000s. Jockie also worked with artists such as Chrisye and Iwan Fals, ultimately writing two songs—"Kehidupan" ("Life") and "Kesaksian" ("Witness")—that were listed by Rolling Stone Indonesia as among the best Indonesian songs of all time.

"Kidung Abadi" is a song written by father and daughter team Erwin and Gita Gutawa for the Kidung Abadi Chrisye concert; the concert was held on 5 April 2012 to commemorate the fifth anniversary of Chrisye's death. The song was created over a period of three months by splicing syllables from previously recorded vocals by Chrisye. At the concert, spliced black-and-white footage of Chrisye was shown lip synching to the song while Erwin's orchestra performed the music. The song was well received: the audience gave it a rowdy ovation, while critics praised its lyrics and described it as one of the best parts of the concert.
