Sentience (stylised as S E N T I E N C E) [1] is the debut extended play by electronic music producer 1788-L. It was released by Canadian record label Deadbeats on August 24, 2018. Four songs were released with the album, including two singles, "Full / Burst" with Totto, and "Nu / Ver / Ka".
On July 25, 2018, 1788-L launched a website where someone could ask any questions to an AI. If asked certain questions, several details surrounding the extended play would be revealed, including the title, tracklist, that it would be released in August and the first single's release date. The website was launched after it was announced that 1788-L would support Ekali's up "Crystal Eyes" tour. [2] [3]
To promote the release of the extended play, a video summarising the extended play was released by 1788-L via their YouTube channel on August 24, 2018. [4] The video, directed by Jonathan Plesel, featured and was inspired by video games, Gundam and the dystopian/cyberpunk aesthetic. [5]
The two singles "Full / Burst" and "Nu / Ver / Ka" originally debuted by Canadian electronic music duo Zeds Dead during a DJ set in July 2018 and were released as digital downloads on August 3, 2018, and August 17, 2018, respectively. [6] [7] [8] The extended play was released a week after the latter, on August 24, 2018, by record label Deadbeats, owned by Zeds Dead. [9]
Sentience was well received by most critics. Katie Stone of EDM.com wrote that the four tracks included on the extended play were so unique and on the cutting edge that they "stand well on their own and as a bass to your face package." [5] Writing for This Song Slaps, Alejandro Vega wrote that the extended play has "displayed an array of sound design that showcase [1788-L's] skills." [10] Dancing Astronaut's Asher Norris wrote that the extended play showcased 1788-L's signature sound, stating that they have become one of "the most exciting new artists in the red hot mid-tempo bass music scene." [11] Peach Gallagher of Run the Trap described 1788-L's style of production techniques as "undeniable as each track offers a one of a kind sonic experience", writing that the extended play ignited a "firestorm of hard-hitting bass and experimental anthems that will leave any seasoned bass-head breathless." [12]
Selbe Dittman of EDM Sauce reviewed the song "Full / Burst", noting its dark, robot voice and wrote that the combination of both artists' sounds made for an interesting mix. [7] This Song Slaps' Brian Bonavoglia called the song an "aggressive metallic bass beauty that is best defined as mid-tempo at its finest." [13] Writing for Run The Trap, Andre Waguespack compared the song to "Hex", 1788-L's previous collaboration with Canadian DJ and record producer Rezz, calling it a "whirlwind of mid tempo madness." [14]
Writing for Dancing Astronaut, Bella Bagshaw described the song "Nu / Ver / Ka" as the "bleeding embodiment of experimental electronic", writing that the track's "whirlwind arrangement only adds to the dizzying merriment, as the listener is sucked into the oscillating 1788-L continuum." [8] EDM Sauce's Selbe Dittman wrote that the song "showed even more diversity as an artist and DJ", noting that it is more chill but not as "bassy and glitchy" compared to 1788-L's previous tracks. [15] Katie Stone of EDM.com described the song as "definitely have a different sound to them then some of the other 1788-L singles we've heard." [16]

Christian Valentin "Val" Brunn, better known by his stage name Virtual Riot, is a German DJ and electronic music producer. He has released seventeen extended plays and two studio albums, most notably his 2016 extended play Chemistry, which peaked at 20 on Billboard's Dance/Electronic Albums charts and his 2018 extended play German Engineering, which peaked on the Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales chart at the No. 11 position. He was signed to the independent music label Disciple Recordings in 2014. On 16 April 2019, he announced a publishing deal with Skrillex's OWSLA.
Monstercat is a Canadian independent electronic music record label based in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Isabelle Rezazadeh, known by her stage name Rezz, is a Canadian DJ and record producer from Niagara Falls, Ontario. She released her debut EP, Insurrection in 2015 through OWSLA's sub-label Nest HQ. In 2016, she signed with record label mau5trap, and released follow-ups The Silence is Deafening and Something Wrong Here. On August 4, 2017, Rezazadeh released her debut studio album, Mass Manipulation, with its follow up, Certain Kind of Magic, released in 2018.
Slander is an American DJ duo consisting of Derek Andersen and Scott Land based in Los Angeles. They are best known for their unique sound and subgenre "heaven trap". They attribute most of their success to their close friend Nathaniel Bates, who they say “single handedly gave them the inspiration and confidence to become full time DJ’s”.
Mustafa Alobaidi, better known by his stage name Muzz, is an English drum and bass producer and DJ. He first gained attention with his release on UKF, "X No Way Out" in 2010 and continues to release music, most predominantly on Monstercat. He has also worked with other labels, such as UKF Music and Liquicity.
Carl Garsbo, better known by his stage name Kasbo, is an electronic record producer and DJ, originating from Gothenburg, Sweden. Starting his music career in 2013, he released multiple songs independently and through labels such as Monstercat, Foreign Family Collective and bitbird. He also released a couple songs on NoCopyrightSounds, those being "Steps", and "Horizon".
David Andrew Lunson, known as 1788-L, is an American DJ, electronic music producer. He rose to fame in 2018 with a remix of Virtual Self's "Particle Arts" uploaded onto his SoundCloud account. Other releases following this include "Multiverse" and a remix of Daft Punk's "Rinzler".

Daniel James "Danny" Howland, better known by his alias Svdden Death, is a Los Angeles-based DJ and producer from San Jose, California. He is known for his song "Sell Out", a collaboration with American multi-platinum artist Marshmello that peaked on Billboard's Hot Dance/Electronic Songs at the No. 36 position in early 2019. Howland makes high-energy music that falls into the genre of dubstep and riddim. Howland tours regularly in North America, and can be found on festival lineups all throughout festival season.
Matthew Austin Lucas, better known by his alias Peekaboo, is an American dubstep producer. Although he began as a multi-genre electronic music artist, he is mostly now known for his particular style of dubstep, also known as freeform bass and space bass. His sixth extended play Wrecking Ball debuted at #10 on Billboard's Dance/Electronic Album Sales chart in early 2019.
Path.Finder is the fourth extended play by American electronic music producer Notaker. It was released by Canadian record label Monstercat on April 8, 2019. It contains six songs, including features of Singer-songwriter Karra and Eric Lumiere. The two singles "Into the Light" and "Each Other" were each released on January 31, 2019, and on March 18, 2019, respectively.

He is known for the songs "Island" and "Another Me", with the prior being a collaboration with American dubstep producers Seven Lions and Trivecta and the latter being a collaboration with Seven Lions and Canadian producer and DJ Excision. "Island" peaked at the No. 20 position on Billboard's Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales chart in early 2019. "Another Me" peaked on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs at the No. 46 position in late 2019.
Jesse Kardon, better known by his alias Subtronics, is an American dubstep DJ and producer from Philadelphia, United States. He is best known for his song "Griztronics", a collaboration with Michigan-based electronic music artist GRiZ that peaked on Billboard's Hot Dance/Electronic Songs at the No. 9 position in late 2019. Kardon peaked at No. 10 on Billboard's Next Big Sound chart in September 2019. Kardon is currently engaged to fellow producer and Dubstep DJ Sonya Broner also known by her alias Level Up.

Taking inspiration from the feeling their music gave them for their stage name, they are known for their remixes, singles, extended plays (EP), and debut album Duality. We Are Fury's music is primarily electronic dance music (EDM) and contains elements of subgenres such as melodic trap, future bass, midtempo, and melodic dubstep.
