Serge Wilmes (born 6 May 1982) is a Luxembourgish politician of the Christian Social People's Party (CSV), serving as Minister of the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity and Minister of Public Service in the Frieden-Bettel Government. He was previously a member of the Chamber of Deputies from 2011 to 2023 and an alderman of Luxembourg City from 2017 to 2023.
Originally from Merl in Luxembourg City, Wilmes graduated from lycée Michel-Rodange in 2001. Following graduation, Wilmes studied at Université Nancy-II where he received his maîtrise in history in 2005. The next year, Wilmes received his second-level masters in Contemporary European History from the Université du Luxembourg. [1] His master's thesis was on the position of right-wing Catholic movements on Abortion in the 1970s. [2]

A member of Christian Social People's Party since 2000, Wilmes was encouraged by Michel Wolter to serve as a parliamentary advisor for the party in the Chamber of Deputies, a position he held from 2008 to November 2011. In the meantime, Wilmes was elected president of the party's youth movement, a position he held until February 2014., [4] [5]
Following the death of Lucien Thiel on 25 August 2011, Wilmes was designated his successor in the Chamber of Deputies. In accordance with the Constitution, Wilmes was sworn in on 11 October 2011 and served the remainder of Thiel's term in the Centre constituency.,. [6] [7] Wilmes was re-elected in the 2013 and 2018 elections.
During the 2017 communal elections, [8] [9] Wilmes was elected to the Luxembourg City Communal Council, where he became an échevin.
In February 2019, Wilmes stood as a candidate for leadership of the Christian Social People's Party, going up against MEP Frank Engel.,. [10] [11] Despite losing to Engel, Wilmes maintained a lot of popularity prior to the convention to elect Engel's successor. [12] However, in 2021, Claude Wiseler was elected the new leader of the CSV.
Same-sex marriage has been legal in Luxembourg since 1 January 2015. A bill for the legalisation of same-sex marriages was enacted by the Chamber of Deputies on 18 June 2014 and signed into law by Grand Duke Henri on 4 July. Polling suggests that a majority of Luxembourgers support the legal recognition of same-sex marriage. Luxembourg was the last Benelux country, the sixteenth in the world, and the tenth in Europe to allow same-sex couples to marry nationwide.
Centre is one of the four multi-member constituencies of the Chamber of Deputies, the national legislature of Luxembourg. The constituency was established in 1919 following the introduction of proportional representation for elections to the Chamber of Deputies. It consists of the cantons of Luxembourg and Mersch. The constituency currently elects 21 of the 60 members of the Chamber of Deputies using the open party-list proportional representation electoral system. At the 2023 general election it had 81,687 registered electors.

Meisch was appointed Minister of Education in 2013 in the government of Xavier Bettel, a post he held until 2023. He was appointed Minister of Education and Youth and as Minister of Housing in 2023 in the government of Luc Frieden He has been a member of the Chamber of Deputies from 1999 to 2013 and Mayor of Differdange since 2002. He was President of the Democratic Party (DP) from 2004 until 2013, of which he has been a member since 1994.
Luc Frieden is a Luxembourgish politician and lawyer who serves as the 25th prime minister of Luxembourg since November 2023. A member of the Christian Social People's Party (CSV), he held numerous cabinet positions in the Luxembourgish government between 1998 and 2013, notably serving as the minister for the Treasury and Budget during the transition from the Franc to the Euro and as Minister of Finance during the European debt crisis. Frieden was president of the Luxembourgish Chamber of Commerce and Eurochambres, the business federation of European Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
Fred Sunnen was a Luxembourgish politician for the Christian Social People's Party (CSV). He was a member of the national legislature, the Chamber of Deputies, having been first elected in the 1999 election to represent the Sud constituency.
