Serie A is the second division of the national women's rugby union competition in Italy. It was established by the Italian Rugby Federation in 2022, it took over the name from the first division championship, which adopted it for the previous 31 editions before being renamed Eccellenza and, in 2023, Serie A Elite.

Rugby Viadana 1970 is an Italian rugby union club based in Viadana. The club was established in 1970, and has since won the Italian championship in 2002, and the Coppa Italia three times. They also compete in European rugby competitions and were runners-up in the European Shield in 2004. Viadana plays in yellow and black. The club did not compete professionally between 2010 and 2012 as they focused their efforts on Aironi. Aironi was based at Viadana's home ground and represented a number of regional teams in the multi-national Celtic League. The FIR withdrew Aironi's licence to play at the end of the 2012, so Viadana reformed as a professional team will play in Italy's top division, the National championship of Excellence, from the 2012–13 season and currently in the Top12.

Rugby Calvisano is an Italian rugby union club currently competing in the Top12. They are based in Calvisano, in Lombardy. They were founded in 1970 by a group of players: Tonino Montanari, Gianluigi Vaccari and Alfredo Gavazzi. In 1992 the club became “Rugby Calvisano S.r.l.”

Eccellenza Sicily is the regional Eccellenza football division for clubs in Sicily, Italy. It is competed amongst 32 teams, in two different groups. The winners of the Groups are promoted to Serie D. The clubs who finish second also have the chance to gain promotion, they are entered into a national play-off which consists of two rounds.

Eccellenza Campania is the regional Eccellenza football league for clubs in the Southern Italian region of Campania, Italy. It is composed of 32 teams, divided into divisions A and B, which are 2 of the 28 total Eccellenza divisions in all of Italy. The two winners of the divisions are automatically promoted to Serie D. The two clubs that finish second are entered into a national play-off at the end of the regular season for a chance to gain one of seven Serie D promotions to the survivors of two rounds of double-leg ties.

Serie A is the second tier of the Italian Rugby Union championship. Until the creation of the Super 10 in a 2002 restructuring exercise, it was the top tier.

Eccellenza Tuscany is the regional Eccellenza football division for clubs in Tuscany, Italy. It is competed amongst 37 teams, in three different groups. The winners of the Groups compete together in final round robin, and the first and second teams are promoted to Serie D. The club who finishes third, along with the second placed teams in the regular season, also have the chance to gain promotion, as they are entered into a national play-off which consists of two rounds.

Serie A Elite is the highest tier of the national women's rugby union competition in Italy. It was organized by UISP from 1985–86 to 1990–91, the following season it came under the jurisdiction of the Italian Rugby Federation with the name of Serie A, held until the 2021–22 season. It was renamed Eccellenza for 2022–23 before adopting its current name, Serie A Elite for the upcoming season.
