Shabba Ranks is a Jamaican dancehall musician. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, he was one of the most popular Jamaican musicians in the world. Throughout his prominence in his home country as a dancehall artist, he gained popularity in North America with his studio album, Just Reality, in 1990. He released two studio albums, As Raw as Ever and X-tra Naked, which both won a Grammy Award as Best Reggae Album in 1992 and 1993, respectively. He is notoriously popular for "Mr. Loverman" and "Ting-A-Ling", which were globally acclaimed and deemed his signature songs.
Robert Dixon, known as Bobby Digital, was a Jamaican reggae and dancehall producer. He was given his nickname "Bobby Digital" because King Jammy, with whom he worked in the mid-1980s, had begun experimenting with digital rhythms at around the same time. He owned the Digital B label, and among the artists with hits on the label are Shabba Ranks and Sizzla. He has influenced reggae artists such as Admiral Tibet.
Dembow is a bouncy musical rhythm which originated in Jamaica. When Shabba Ranks released "Dem Bow" in 1990, it did not take long for the dembow genre to form. Riddims were built from the song and the sound became a popular part of reggaeton. From the original song of "Dem Bow" originating in Jamaica, it then reached New York and the genre of dembow moved next to Latin America thanks to the Panamanian artist Nando Boom who released a Spanish version of Dem Bow by Shabba Ranks, the rhythm eventually reached the Dominican Republic.

It was released in 1992 and 1993 as a single, reaching number 40 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number three on the UK Singles Chart, as well as the top 20 in France, Germany and Ireland. In 2003, Q Magazine ranked "Mr. Loverman" at number 866 in their list of the "1001 Best Songs Ever".

Sidney Mills is a British Jamaican musician, performing mostly within the reggae genre and best known as a member of the roots reggae band Steel Pulse. Mills was born in the United Kingdom and moved to Jamaica as a child. He was raised in the Saint Thomas Parish, Jamaica and became a musician from an early age, moving to Kingston in the late 1960s to pursue a musical career. Sidney attended Kings College Kingston where he matured as a musician under the tutelage of the likes of Sonny Bradshaw.

"Shabba" is a song by American hip hop recording artist ASAP Ferg. It was released on July 16, 2013 as the second single from his debut studio album Trap Lord (2013). The song, produced by Snugsworth, features a guest appearance from Ferg's ASAP Mob cohort ASAP Rocky. The song's title refers to Jamaican dancehall musician Shabba Ranks, who makes a cameo appearance in the song's music video and appears on the remix. The single was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
